On the spectrum of "healthy" to "a real problem" this seems much closer to the former, even just from a financial standpoint. Relatively speaking, this is the equivalent of an average American having a collection of payless store brand shoes.

Agree. For the sake of fun and argument, let's say that it's actually a $100,000 shoe collection. And let's also say his net worth it around $100 million. 0.1% of his net worth is held in shoes that arguably could appreciate in value.

The average 30 year old net worth in the US is $80k. 0.1% of $80k is $80.

Arguably, a 30 year old average American having ONE pair of off the shelf Jordans is relatively more financially irresponsible than Howard having a $100,000 appreciating collection of them. Or, like, 16 total Starbucks iced lattes is relatively more of a financial drain / "unhealthy addiction" / whatever.

And beyond even that, let's use Annie Leibovitz as an example. A world famous photographer who has been paid millions of dollars over the course of her career to shoot photography. Would it be so weird for her to have a huge collection of rare and expensive cameras that she keeps on display at her home?

This is the instrument of her craft. She's made her life on cameras. Would someone walk into her house and say "uh they're just cameras right? They take pictures? My phone has a camera."

I'm amused when people personalize themselves into other people's lives but then completely disregard all context.

Is it possible those are shoes he wore during his NBA championship games, or shoes he got autographed by Michael Jordan or Kobe? I’m going to guess that Juwan Howard’s sneaker collection has a little more meaning behind it than does your average sneakerhead.

Juwan has always been a sharp dressed man. I was more impressed with his open and direct communication style. Nice of him to give props to the unibrow.

Whether it was done purposely or accidentally, doing the interview in that environment was a smart move from a PR and recruitment standpoint.

I can't imagine that it would hurt his standing among high school and college basketball players to be seen in front of an impressive display of Jordans and an interesting piece of art.  I'd be willing to bet it created some chatter among those groups.

Juwan's worn a bunch of cool sh!t this year that hasn't been available to the general public.  The two that caught my eye (that I'd buy if available) were a sweet non-zip non-fleece hoodie he wore earlier in the season and that Jordan brand maize quarter zip he wore in the tournament.

I hope Nike releases some of this stuff but it's def good to be king.

The sport teams will always get an exclusive apparel wear that won't be released to the public. I used to work in sport in D1 and have been able to wear it that aren't for sale to the public. It's pretty neat to have it in my hands.

I doubt that Nike will release some of the stuff the players/coaches wear to the public.

Mentioned it in another Juwan apparel thread - but an upvote to anyone who can tell me what kind of black wedding ring he wears.  Been in the market .... :)
