Apparel: Scope the Threads on Coach Howard
https://youtu.be/NsulvTFXKLA?t=296
Anyone see this hoodie Juwan Howard had for his CotY acceptance? I haven't found that at Nike or MDen, but I'll be looking.
That you, WD?
WD would have known exactly what it was and where to get it, having linked to it in unadvertised inventory two weeks ago. Maybe with some background about the design history.
WD also has one himself already, having bribed the textile factory manager in Vietnam where they are produced
The legend grows with each topic that touches on apparel and shoes...
I believe he's used that image of Fry before in apparel threads. Hmmmmm
I like the hoodie. I was more distracted by the statue behind him. WTH is that thing?
Not to mention the glass enclosure containing $50,000 worth of Nike's.
No one should ever be that obsessed with shoes - it just doesn't seem healthy (and yes, I am aware that some are far more devoted to collecting shoes than this).
On the spectrum of "healthy" to "a real problem" this seems much closer to the former, even just from a financial standpoint. Relatively speaking, this is the equivalent of an average American having a collection of payless store brand shoes.
Agree. For the sake of fun and argument, let's say that it's actually a $100,000 shoe collection. And let's also say his net worth it around $100 million. 0.1% of his net worth is held in shoes that arguably could appreciate in value.
The average 30 year old net worth in the US is $80k. 0.1% of $80k is $80.
Arguably, a 30 year old average American having ONE pair of off the shelf Jordans is relatively more financially irresponsible than Howard having a $100,000 appreciating collection of them. Or, like, 16 total Starbucks iced lattes is relatively more of a financial drain / "unhealthy addiction" / whatever.
And beyond even that, let's use Annie Leibovitz as an example. A world famous photographer who has been paid millions of dollars over the course of her career to shoot photography. Would it be so weird for her to have a huge collection of rare and expensive cameras that she keeps on display at her home?
This is the instrument of her craft. She's made her life on cameras. Would someone walk into her house and say "uh they're just cameras right? They take pictures? My phone has a camera."
I'm amused when people personalize themselves into other people's lives but then completely disregard all context.
This is assuming he even bought the shoes. Nike probably gave him them for free.
Is it possible those are shoes he wore during his NBA championship games, or shoes he got autographed by Michael Jordan or Kobe? I’m going to guess that Juwan Howard’s sneaker collection has a little more meaning behind it than does your average sneakerhead.
As an old man, I just want my classic original styles that used to be commonplace but can now be hard to find besides special editions - rod lavers, sambas, pro models, campus, clydes
$50,000 might be an under estimate. That's like the entire Jordan line in what appears to a be an unreleased gold color way
I agree, I just didn't want it to seem like hyperbole to the uninitiated. That's impressive if you are a sneaker head.
You would think recruits would notice and appreciate stuff like that. Moreso than a glass case of whiskies, fossils, whatever.
That's WD's robot, recording every word and looking for new M branded gear.
Looks like a cross between a young Spike Lee and ET.
A statue by Chicago artist, Hebru Brantley.
Blue95 is correct. They're called Flyboys.
Thanks for the reply Yo_Blue and Blue95. I was genuinely curious.
Hebru is a genius.
Juwan has always been a sharp dressed man. I was more impressed with his open and direct communication style. Nice of him to give props to the unibrow.
Juwan’s grandmother raised a talented and humble young man.
Congrats on your award coach. Looking forward to next season.
Speaking of which, I notice a lot fewer coaches wearing suits this year, and more casual to almost gym attire this year. I wonder if that's due to Covid or is this more of a future trend.
I think it was a Covid thing. How many suits would you pack to Indianapolis, knowing that you might be there a month? Easier to just bring some sweatsuits that you could easily wash.
I’d like to see his watch collection. Gotta be six, maybe seven figures.
It’s definitely 7 figures. Richard Mille, Rolex (various higher end models), AP and Patek. Seems like a different model each game.
I'd buy that hoodie in a heartbeat too. Looking forward to someone giving a link where to find it.
Whether it was done purposely or accidentally, doing the interview in that environment was a smart move from a PR and recruitment standpoint.
I can't imagine that it would hurt his standing among high school and college basketball players to be seen in front of an impressive display of Jordans and an interesting piece of art. I'd be willing to bet it created some chatter among those groups.
Juwan's worn a bunch of cool sh!t this year that hasn't been available to the general public. The two that caught my eye (that I'd buy if available) were a sweet non-zip non-fleece hoodie he wore earlier in the season and that Jordan brand maize quarter zip he wore in the tournament.
I hope Nike releases some of this stuff but it's def good to be king.
The sport teams will always get an exclusive apparel wear that won't be released to the public. I used to work in sport in D1 and have been able to wear it that aren't for sale to the public. It's pretty neat to have it in my hands.
I doubt that Nike will release some of the stuff the players/coaches wear to the public.
Mentioned it in another Juwan apparel thread - but an upvote to anyone who can tell me what kind of black wedding ring he wears. Been in the market .... :)
