Another NC Ticket thread: How many of us will end up in the UW sections?

Submitted by othernel on January 4th, 2024 at 2:40 PM

Like many, I'm looking for tix on the secondary market, and clearly, the tickets on the lower price spectrum are mostly in the UW sections.

I was trying to avoid this, but then also figured that a lot of these tix are probably being picked up by UM fans, so it won't end up being too bad.

I wanted to see if anyone else is ending up in the UW sections for the game. Seems like we're taking over Houston.

The prices are sooo much better on that side. I am thinking about getting tickets there and hoping there are fellow Wolverines nearby. I am torn though because part of what I love about attending games in person is sharing emotions with fellow fans.

This is precisely why I shared the experience below. We absolutely had that in a non-Michigan section. While it’s not a guarantee, if it’s anything like Pasadena, I would posit that most anywhere in the stadium will allow for plenty of sharing of emotions with fellow fans.

There are a ton of texas fans who bought them and are now looking to dump. The problem is they bought them at the worst possible time and are trying to mitigate their losses.

If anyone is still searching, this may be a decent option to reach out to one of these posters.

If it’s anything like how it was in Pasadena, I don’t think it would matter much. We sat one section over from the Alabama band and it was virtually ALL Michigan fans everywhere around us. While it could have been a different experience sitting exactly opposite in the stadium, in the “Michigan sections” it was awfully fun to watch the Michigan sections for the whole game. But honestly, it felt like we were in a Michigan section anyway…

TickPick by far.  You can track total availability, average selling price and get in pricing and it's presented real time on a line graph.  You'll see pricing spiked yesterday big time but today it's been slowly coming back down to Tuesday levels and supply is also increased.

In the past hour about 500 tickets were sold and prices have creeped back up a bit.  Going to be interesting to see how the rest of the day unfolds.

And yes, if you want a pretty good seat at a reasonable (for the NCG anyways) sit on the Washington side.

You'll see pricing spiked yesterday big time

Is that accurate? I ask because I saw minimum prices on Monday night, right after the game, north of $2k per ticket, and then when I looked yesterday it was about half that. Granted, I didn’t look at that site (I looked at my go to - SeatGeek), but that’s a far wider peak disparity than I would expect (ie Monday night versus Wednesday).

Yes, very much true.  I've been looking at two tickets in section 231, lower bowl about the 15 yard line, and Tuesday they were listed on SeatGeek at $2,400 each including fees.  Yesterday those same seats shot up to $3,600 each and today they're back down to around $2,600 and dropping.

I found a reddit forum that said this is normal because most of the seats right now are held by ticket brokers and one thing they've learned is that people hate getting on planes and travelling without having procured their tickets so they generally spike pricing the days they think travel will start.

I'm still waiting.  Flight leaves Cleveland 7:00am Saturday, I might arrive in Houston still on the hunt.

Wow. Totally makes sense. And we did it that way, too, for the Rose Bowl. Had flights all figured out, then locked in tickets. With one added layer: we kept looking at flights and found even better flights (thank you very much “no change fees!” as we scored a great deal less than a week out from game day). Thank you for this insight; appreciated!

I was going between Gametime, SeatGeek, Tickpick and StubHub.  I ended up buying from SeatGeek.

I'm on the UW side since they were about $200-$300/ticket cheaper than similar seats on the UM side.

I'm going to watch the game in a local theater (North Central Washington) and any other fans there will most certainly be Washington fans - I'm ok with that. Will be fun if Michigan is winning and suck if they're losing. Either way, the communal experience will be good

Hey as long as you pay less than I did, you did better than I did.

I let someone else buy my tickets; he could not have done a worse job for more money.

Michigan fans will likely vastly outnumber UW fans (same as they did re Bama fans in Pasadena -- it was about 70-30). So get tickets anywhere.

Red always "pops" more than blue, and virtually every Bama fan wears red (whereas Michigan is probably 70/30 blue/maize). I was there and agree that, if you just took a glance at the crowd you might assume something like a 55/45 pro-M split.

But once you heard the difference in crowd noise when each team was on offense it was obvious the split wasn't even close. Maybe as high as 75/25.

EDIT: Actually a lot of younger Bama women were wearing like black cocktail dresses, so I guess I would qualify my statement re: Bama fans thusly.

I want to posit a different thought: buy them in the Washington sections and help the team out. One of the hidden aspects of the end of the Rose Bowl is that the OT was played on the “Michigan end” right in front of our student section. And it was LOUD down there. It wouldn’t have been as loud on the “Alabama end” (for either team). And that’s the point: Michigan fan bought so many seats on the Alabama end that there would have been virtually no advantage for Alabama on that end of the field.

I have 4 together in section 651. Row H. On Ticket Master they are listed and will cost $1300+ each after fees. I’ll take $1050 each if we can meet up. I live in White Lake, MI.  Email me at yahoo. Use bokee88 (same as my name on here). These are the last Um section before it transitions to Washington but the same end zone as the band.

Operating under a similar assumption, this is the route I went for the Rose Bowl and it ended up somewhat backfiring. My friend and I sat in section 28L and, other than two UM fans to my immediate left (who unfortunately seemed to be out of their seats more than they were in them), we were surrounded by Bammers.

There ended up really only being one total a**hole two rows directly behind us, who I ended up chirping back at a time or two, but most everyone else seemed normal/sane. I will say that it did (minimally) impact my experience, as I tried to restrain myself and my excitement a bit at times out of respect for those aforementioned "decent" Bama fans.

Not sure what the price difference is for next week as I can't make the trip to Houston, nor do I know your financial situation obviously, but if I could do it again, I'd pay the extra couple hundred bucks to be in a Michigan section. Good luck!

I'll add that I was in the teeth of the "Bama Section" on Monday (behind the Bama band), and while there were definitely a few annoying dudes around us, I was still surrounded by a ton of M fans who I got to hug at the final whistle (and also some neutrals, who are likely to end up in the cheapest sections too).

And while I agree that it's best to be around fellow fans just because it's more fun to share the emotions, if this is at all motivated by fear of asshole UW fans, I live in Seattle and would say they're probably one of the chiller fanbases in the country. Still not a 0% risk, but much lower than if we were playing, say, Bama or OSU.

Also live in Seattle, and I'll second this.

UW fans are pretty benign. Far more so than Big Ten or SEC fanbases, and even than other West Coast ones like Oregon or USC.

There also are a HUGE amount of Michigan alums in Seattle, one of the top outside of UW, so they are used to us lol.

I think you'll see Mich be 60-65% of the crowd.  Texas has a lot of Michigan alumni, and we travel really well, which is why we're generally in a better bowl than we might expect.

Ticket volumes have actually INCREASED 5-10% over the last couple of days, and I've seen prices drop on SeatGeek and Stubhub 10-15%.  This is even before all the alumni have their tickets available to resell.  I think you're going to see additional erosion over the next two days.

I'm targeting 4 lower level, and hoping to get them below $1k each plus fees (right now I'm seeing $1100-1200 per deals).  As someone said above, most people want their tickets before they leave for Houston.  It's hard to argue, but it will save you money.  Look for when the ticket volumes start to decline.  That's your time to buy.

There are generally 2 actual corners where the actual university tickets are, these are close to 100% of one of the other.

Then the two other corners are technically neutral (universities don't give out tickets), but tend to be more of the team on that sideline.

In Pasadena, the neutral on the Michigan sideline, where I sat, was basically 100% Michigan.

But from my vantage point across the stadium to the equivalent "neutral" corner on the bama side, it looked 50/50, maybe 60/40 Bama. But you definitely would've still been around Michigan people.

And, it is fun, as others have mentioned, to be able to look at the Michigan sections from across.
