All the U-M Players on USFL Rosters

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on February 25th, 2022 at 10:31 AM

The USFL draft was this week, and we all know that Shea Patterson went No. 1 overall to the Michigan Panthers, fulfilling the predictions that many people made when he came out of high school that he would be a No. 1 overall draft pick.

And I, for one, think it would be very cool if he wore Anthony Carter’s No. 1 jersey with the Panthers instead of his usual No. 2.

The league begins its 10-game schedule on April 16, and here are all the Wolverines currently on USFL rosters:

Michigan Panthers

Shea Patterson, QB

Philadelphia Stars

Channing Stribling, CB

Pittsburgh Maulers

Carlo Kemp, DE

De’Veon Smith, RB

Tampa Bay Bandits

Juwann Bushell-Beatty, OT

The reply button doesn't seem to be working, but @Blue@LSU, since the team's locations are just for show (all games are being played at two sites in Birmingham, AL), I'm surprised the USFL didn't take even more liberties. Why not a team based on the Moon?

@Real Tackles Wear 77 - The are playing the first season in Birmingham. After that, everybody goes to their home market. I guess this will cut down on travel costs for the teams.

For people who prefer to watch at home, it should not make a difference. The Lions could play their games on Alpha Centauri and I'll still be pissed watching them lose a game they played 4.3 light years ago.

Stribling hopefully doesn't have to face Allen Robinson ever again. That was a brutal ending to the awful 2013 PSU game.

Smith and Kemp seemed to play hard all the time and had some big moments.

As for Shea, he had it all when he transferred to UM, and, at times, was pretty good in 2018. Other than a few games in 2019 (MSU, Indy) he seemed out of synch. He spent way too much time on the links instead of working on timing and routine with DPJ, Collins, etc. during the summer months on a practice field. Maybe he's learned his lesson that 100% dedication is required at this level.

Don't remember much about JBB - but at least we know UM can produce good OL under JH.

Per Magnus' question "Best #1 draft pick of all time: Jake Long, Tom Harmon, or Shea Patterson? You decide."

wouldn't the answer be "Ryan Leaf"

I'm really happy for Shea, whether or not he chooses to do it.

It's not easy to move from one school to another (one region to another) and start over, have some success, have some adversity, but remain committed to the job despite being so much in the public eye. He's worked harder at some things in his life than I ever will in my life so credit for that.

Go Blue!

@rob f

No fair, you’re moving the goal posts! (See what I did there?) Next you’re going to say no Buckeye QB has ever won a professional football championship.

RE: What is a Michigan Panther?

The worst name in pro sports is the Nashville Predators.   Who came up with that?  Did they decided to lean into the stereotypes from the movie Deliverance?

It was a Chris Hansen tie-in...

The original MI Panthers ceased operation in 1984 and in 2 seasons still have more playoff wins than the Liedowns since then.  I still have a USFL program from The Panthers-Maulers game.  Mike Rozier was a Heisman winner that was drafted by Pittsburgh.

This edition of the USFL has nowhere near the talent.   But I wish them well and hope they last long enough for us to see a pro football team back in MI.
