But didn't the President say that couch fires were NOT part of Spartan culture?

"Firefighters responded to 10 small furniture fires"  How many couch fires were not responded to?!  They burn fast!

It was a choke job even if the analytics wont describe it as such. You beat the one team that has owned you for the last 20 years. You are probably the best team left in the tournament as well. No blue bloods left. Most Sparty fans felt they'd walk to the title game.

This one had to hurt.

Probably. I’ll be honest I only saw 3-4 Tech games all year and then all their games in the tournament. I expected them to win with Culver outdueling Winston (both played poorly), and Owens shutting down MSUs bigs; and he got hurt. I thought those two advantages would be the difference and Maretti and Mooney would cancel out Goins and McQuaid

I would have.  I predicted that TT would win if the refs let them play and TT did not get into significant foul trouble.

Their defense is very, very good.

I'm not diminishing MSU's accomplishments but if you look at their games going back to the last month or so of the year, they did not exactly dominate against good teams.  Remember that this is a team that lost three in a row to Purdue, Indiana and Illinois and was swept by Indiana.  It is certainly true that they "won the games that mattered", particularly the three against U-M, however you could see potential cracks in all of those wins and that many of them were the result of some players having career nights.  That simply isn't going to happen all the time.

I think everyone saw that Duke was a very flawed team - they barely won the two games prior to playing MSU - so that win has to be put in perspective as well.

It's not mutually exclusive to say that everything seemed to be coming together for MSU to win at all while at the same time saying it would not be a surprise to see TT win that game.

I do believe that MSU was over-confident in a few areas - they have successfully come back in several games and seemed to think they could do that every time and they underestimated TT because they didn't think Gonzaga or U-M were very good.

The RCMB was almost unanimously of the opinion that this game was going to be a runaway win for Sparty.  The underlying rationale apparently was that Sparty had defeated the number two defense 3X, so where's the threat from the #1 defense?

A few posters predicted a close victory, but anything resembling objectivity has no place on the RCMB.  I suppose the same can be said of any fanbase, but it seems like the posters at RCMB/TOC have a pathological inability to critically evaluate the weaknesses and vulnerabilities of their team.   A similar overconfidence preceded their CFP loss to Alabama, where it seemed to most of their posters that the Spartan D was going to strangle while the O was going to launch an air raid for the ages.  We know how that worked out....

At least here honest critiques of our team can be found regularly.  I'm not sure where you go to get that if you are a Sparty.

I know there are annoying fans of just about every team - certainly can be said of U-M, but man there seems to be a predominance of odd, ill-placed arrogance among MSU fans.  I think this is why it's so hard for many of us to wish them well.

A telling story - a buddy of mine who is a U-M grad was in Los Angeles this past weekend for Spring Break and ran into a few MSU fans after their game.  He congratulated them for getting to the final four and mentioned that the game looked a lot like U-Ms against Texas Tech.  Their response - you're comparing you to us, we beat you 3 times.

As he and I have discussed many times - the whole little brother thing has more to do with mentality than wins/losses.

On a side note - I continue to be amazed at how/why MSU players are so devoted to Izzo.  I don't think there was a single remark he made after the game where he took any ownership for the loss.  Everything was about the players and getting out-toughed, etc.  I also thought it was hilarious that he said they rarely get beat up but they got beat up by Texas Tech and that they had foul trouble at half time.  Uh, Ward and Henry had two fouls at half and neither of them picked up another foul the rest of the game.  I would hardly call that foul trouble.  One could make a pretty sound argument that the refs helped them close the gap with some rather odd foul calls on Texas Tech in the second half.  When the game was 50-41, the next 8 points for MSU were FTs.

I would have expected them to beat MSU.  Based on their earlier games (including against us), they looked like the best team in the tournament - the best defense combined with elite offensive talent.  If they win tonight, they are a deserving champion, probably the actual best team this year.

When one of our fans here posts: "...but, we're the winningest football program in the history of football", they get lambasted. All the neg bangs are followed with "Yeh, but we've sucked for 15 years".

I think it's fair game to mock Izzo in the same way - minus Sparty having a historical winning tradition of course (in any sport).

This is true. But, can you name a time Michigan didn’t play a number 1 seed or the number 1 overall in the championship game?

losses to Indiana (1), Duke (1), UNC (1), Louisville (1), Villanova (1).

Had some tough matches to win it all, But Michigan is 7-1 in final fours and coach b is 2-0 - as many as Izzo who has an extra 13 seasons at his stop.

Yeah, let’s just say that MSU fans treated this “return to glory” with about the same amount of class as you would expect from them.  Zero.

Did not even make it to Monday night.  Again.  Have fun getting your ass handed to you at The Big House.

You are 100% spot on. This one HURT more than most.

Did anyone else see the front page of the print version for the Sunday Detroit Free Press?!?! Thank god my dad still gets the paper delivered on Sundays.

"It's a Sparty Party, this is OUR YEAR"

I could not believe the editors let that go to print for the front page of the Sunday Free Press. They honestly thought there was no way they were losing to Texas Tech, this was some team of destiny HAHA.

Aside from the Freep epic fail, I could not believe the amount of people I saw out and about on Saturday afternoon decked in Spartan gear. It was apparent that many watch parties were happening in my Royal Oak neighborhood...

For some reason yesterday, everything was just very quiet compared to Saturday, considering how nice it was.  The Spartan family next door was not outside yelling and screaming while kicking soccer balls into my new expensive privacy fence.  I hope that little brat and hid dad cried all day.
