Does Michigan not do rolling admissions? Are admissions now digital? Shit im old. Or is this the first day of admissions that are not early admissions. Am I speaking a foreign language to anyone younger than 35?
January 28th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
this is just for Early Action (non-binding) apps. Most are accepted or deferred to the reg. decision pool of candidates.
No rolling admissions anymore. Everyone EA hears today. Everyone RD, hears in March? IDK that date off the top
January 28th, 2022 at 6:38 PM ^
What the hell is RD? I think I applied at the end of January and heard in April or there about.
January 28th, 2022 at 7:17 PM ^
regular decision
January 28th, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
I think this must be early admissions as the next round of applications are due February 1st.
January 28th, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
Yes it’s done by email. No they’re not rolling. 90% of kids apply for early decision. Somehow this is what they’re calling early. These are the first admits of the cycle.

Used to be apply by Halloween, get a guaranteed response by Christmas. Wonder why they moved it back...
January 28th, 2022 at 4:03 PM ^
That's how I got in. A cherry on top was I was in Florida on vacation and my Sparty brother called me to say the letter arrived... He didn't want me to get in, and go to MSU. I asked if the envelope was thick and he said yes, so I knew. He opened it, and got the most underwhelming response, a barely inaudible "you got in". Was great. My son is applying to schools but not Michigan... he has a shot, because his grades are great but SAT was low, but they aren't requiring it...he wants to go to BU or Univ of Florida. Ive asked him to apply anyway several times, I doubt he gets in but at least it's another contribution to my alma mater...
January 28th, 2022 at 6:08 PM ^
Did your parents not invite your brother to Florida because he went to MSU?
January 28th, 2022 at 6:34 PM ^
Ha ha. It was Christmas break and he was married with kids, so wasn't invited. He was the biggest M fan growing up too... didnt get in, and you know how the rest goes....

Same here. Applied the first week of my senior year and was accepted by early October. Damn, this would be stressful...
January 28th, 2022 at 5:19 PM ^
It was pretty quick when I applied, too. I think it took less than a month.
January 28th, 2022 at 3:57 PM ^
The only things accurate about this post is "they're not rolling" and "these are the first admits of the cycle."

I stared at my mailbox for weeks, hoping for folder-sized packages. My hopes would go up until I realized that the colors were wrong. Kids these days.
January 28th, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
Yup - and if you got a small envelope with a sheet of paper... you knew what was up! I didn't get that from UM though and that's all that matters!!!
January 28th, 2022 at 6:39 PM ^
Mine was a normal sized envelope but thick. When it's a rejection it's just one page thick.

All “early action” received email yesterday with link to their portal, where they found out if accepted (historically about 15%), deferred (about 70%), or declined (15%). Those were the 2020 percentages, roughly, supposedly. The deferred will hear their outcome with “regular decision”, which they said would be “early April”.

I don't think my daughter has even submitted her application yet. Deadline is Tuesday.
Not that I could even afford to send her to U-M even if she got in.
Oh well. There's always community college.
January 28th, 2022 at 3:54 PM ^
You answered my question that I asked in my own post if it was too late.
January 28th, 2022 at 4:10 PM ^
But you're a kleptocrat? Can't you just co-opt an oil well or something to pay for it?
January 28th, 2022 at 4:28 PM ^
I've seen your place on the Black Sea. I think you could afford the international tuition. Maybe not if you get personally sanctioned... but still.
January 28th, 2022 at 6:47 PM ^
Haven't you heard of crushing student loan debt? It's how all the kids are doing it now.
January 29th, 2022 at 12:14 AM ^
My daughter has a lot of money in her 529. We’re still about a year away from this and Im sure it still won’t be enough to pay for tuition at Michigan.
January 28th, 2022 at 3:53 PM ^
I'm trying to get my duaghter to apply. She's been accepted to every psychology program she's applied to. Being out of state, we can't afford Michigan, but it would be awesome for her to have gotten accepted to the number 1 public university. With those going out today, is it now too late? My son is working hard on getting a soccer scholarship somewhere, but he said he would happily walk on there over any scholarship offer.

For the younger people here (or anyone knowledgeable on the subject), what are the odds of eventually getting in if you're deferred? Asking for a young family friend ...
January 28th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Can’t answer that because when you say odds you’re basing off how many other applicants but they don’t try to fill the class off of this one cut.
January 28th, 2022 at 4:24 PM ^
I was deferred and then got in and was in honors. Can't say the odds but it happens to lots of people.
January 28th, 2022 at 5:31 PM ^
My son got in early12 years ago and my daughter was wait listed 8 years ago She retook ACT added another recommendation and worried until about the end of April. After UM she did 3yrs in the Peace Corps and is now thinking about UM grad school. Don’t know about odds but a lot of her friends she thought would be shoe-ins didn’t even get wait listed. Seems like a crap shoot.

My daughter was just accepted to LSA. We are thrilled, relieved, and very proud. Go Blue.

It’s a wonderful thing. Congratulations.
January 28th, 2022 at 4:06 PM ^
Anyone have any clue as to what the odds are of getting in if you get deferred in the early round?
Bueller? Bueller?
January 28th, 2022 at 4:26 PM ^
Answered above that I can't say odds, especially since they made the switch to the common app but I got in after being deferred early action and wound up being accepted into the honors program so I wouldn't give up hope.
January 28th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
Was this last year?
And were you in state?January 28th, 2022 at 6:43 PM ^
I was out of state and no this was pre common app and all that so I'm sure it has changed.
January 28th, 2022 at 5:26 PM ^
I don’t know the odds, but I do know it’s important to complete the additional essay/statement to strongly reiterate why you want to go to UM. That’s how ours got in. Best of luck.

My daughter was accepted into the College of Engineering. I am so excited and proud! Thank goodness that she takes after her mother. I doubt that I could get accepted today given all of this generation’s stellar applicants.
