Accountability? Is that something other than a word that starts with the letter "A"?

Hoke has been using the word "accountability" like he invented the term ever since he was hired. Accountability means accepting consequences for both positive and negative outcomes. A record of 4-10 over the last 14 games in the third and fourth years of a coaching tenure is an outcome that is clearly unacceptable. True accountability would mean accepting the fact that one is unable to get acceptable outcomes and stepping aside. Of course, that would mean foregoing a bunch of dough, so accountability doesn't really mean what we thought it did. Who has been held accountable for chronic underperformance on the ol, rb, wr, db and special teams? The term has come to take on no meaning at all in Michigan football.

Resigning isn't really a realistic expectation to have of Hoke. Firing him is db's job so blame him for keeping hoke around. As an aside, resign and re-sign are really similar but completely opposite

That's the sad irony here.  Hoke loves/loved Michigan, and gave it his all, but he will be despised for taking a limping program and unfathomably dragging it down further, into laughingstock territory, and then walking away with well over 8 figures of university money.  I don't know man.  Guess I don't have the ego to every be a head coach because if I were Hoke, and I'd had shit the bed as brutally as he has over the last 3 years, I just could not live with myself without giving some of that money back to the university, as a way to say I am sorry at my brutal futility.  But no, he'll walk away and take the money, and the extra $3M, and reasonable alums like myself will not be able to help despising him for that, and for how he left the program.

And Captains are always the last ones to go down with the ship. But what isn't known is he has his scuba gear and underwater propolsion contraption to move that pallet of 2 Million dollars waiting for him.

Hoke should be held accountable, but he's also the head coach.  If he quits, then that screws over the players and puts the program in even more disarray.  I'm not saying a change wouldn't help, but he's doing his job and, I suspect in his eyes, that's him being accountable.

In your opinion, bronxblue, how could Hoke show that he is accountable?

  • Stay on the payroll, but donate the rest of this year's salary to the athletic department?
  • Apologize to the football players and fans?
  • Send in a letter of resignation but volunteer to stay on if the regents and AD ask him to?

Hasn't he already "screwed over the players" with how they're been coached and undeveloped?

Personally, I think it would be huge if he accepted responsibility for the last 3 years by apologizing to the players and fans for what has transpired and "gave back" some of what he ahs taken as compensation.

When is the last time a coach resigned because they felt it was best for the program?  That's like me quitting my job because while I love where I work, someone else can do a better job that me.   That notion is ridiculous.

It would be pretty stupid for Hoke to walk away from several million additional dollars by resigning. If you quit, you walk away from your buyout.

That wouldn't be good accountability to his family's future.

He needs to be fired, and the accountability for that is on Brandon. In addition, Brandon needs to be fired, and for that Schlissel is accountable.
