4K Golden Era is here - Four weeks of games in 4K (& one minor YTTV hiccup)
Perhaps Fox heard my cries and is blessing us with four straight games in 4K. Or The Team is really good. Probably that.
Game against Iowa - in 4K
Game against Indiana - in 4K
Game against PENN SHTATTEEEEE - 99.9% chance it will be BIG N00D in 4K
One minor thing - the game against Maryland this past weekend was in 4K. The 4K recording is not showing up in my YouTube TV library, but OU vs. KSU (which also aired in 4K) is available in the library.

Is the 4k stream unique or exclusive to YTTV? I have Hulu+, wondering if I'll have access to the 4k stream.
I was at the game this past Saturday, so did not watch the stream.

YouTube TV and Fubo are the only streaming providers offering 4K.
I think Direct TV and Comcast may have the games in 4K but I'm not sure.

Yeah, Comcast has aired quite a few 4K games each week so far.

I have DirecTV and watched FOX’s Saturday games in 4k, Michigan’s included.
September 27th, 2022 at 8:25 AM ^
Does it cost extra though?
September 27th, 2022 at 9:36 AM ^
DirecTV, Comcast, and Verizon all have the 4K channels.

I use my YTTV login as my service provider in the FoxSports app to get the 4K stream. Doing it this way you don't need the YTTV 4K upgraded subscription. You might be able to do the same with Hulu+ login.
I'll add that the downside going this route is that there isn't DVR in the FoxSports app.

Nice! Good thinking.

Yeah, I'm curious if it's 4k on the FoxSports app on my TV

FWIW I’m less than thrilled with the YTTV 4K stream. I have a shit-ton of bandwidth but still have buffering issues from time to time. Last week I recorded the game through Roku and damn near every time I tried to fast forward the YTTV ap rebooted itself and I has back on the Roku Home Screen. This NEVER happens w conventional broadcast, only 4K.
September 26th, 2022 at 8:49 PM ^
weird - I was going to say it's probably an older TV with less memory so it's not able to store the YTTV 4K buffer in memory and is paging it too often (stutters) but you referenced you're watching YTTV in 4K on a Roku. What model and how old is the Roku?
I have LG C1 (2021) OLED and it plays back 4K via the native LG YTTV app just fine. I also have a Roku Ultra (2022) and it plays 4K fine there too. The Roku Ultra is a bit snapper (faster processor/more ram).

I was having some issues too (YouTube TV). It didn't buffer much, but there were extended stretches where the quality degraded to the point that I just switched over to the 1080p stream.

I bought a 65" Samsung ULED from Costco last fall. When I bought it I decided to use the onboard smart TV features instead of buying yet another Apple TV for it. After several months of having playback issues I bought the Apple TV and haven't had another problem since.

I’ve had a lot of issues with YTTV 4K on a Roku but absolutely zero issues on an Apple TV 4K

I have not liked 4k on my TV. The resolution is great, but the colors aren’t bright. Cable box and TV are 4k. I wonder if it has to do with the signal going through my AV receiver?
September 26th, 2022 at 9:23 PM ^
make sure HDR is turned on in your TV's setting. otherwise the colors will appear dull.
September 26th, 2022 at 11:30 PM ^
I had to do the opposite and set my TV to filmmaker mode to get the colors to not be ridiculous, skin color to look normal and whites to not be blown out.
September 26th, 2022 at 9:25 PM ^
Talk about terrible colors, anyone else think FOX just has problems period? They have issues with Michigan uniforms, particularly yellow, as well as reds and oranges. Skin tones were atrocious during halftime, and then they dialed it back in somewhat. Maybe it’s just me. Sometimes it’s like I’m looking at someone with a terrible filter on their pics from their phone.

BIG N00D in 4k sounds like a very different thing.
September 26th, 2022 at 10:56 PM ^
thanks for the heads up. i'll do the free month trial to see how it looks on YTTV.
September 27th, 2022 at 7:39 AM ^
That KSU beat down of Oklahoma was pretty glorious.
September 27th, 2022 at 8:15 AM ^
Considering turning it on for our YTTV just for this month.
Part of me feels like "don't be a sucker, you barely notice the difference and there's a bunch of other things you can spend that $20 on something more important." But then the other side of me says "its just $20, dude."
Maybe if there's a free trial, I'l do it for the month and see how it goes.

I thought the MD game was rather scruffy - it was like watching it through S-video back in the day. My wife even commented on it. I have a Roku 4K TV and was tuned to the HD Fox channel, and it was just that game - and everything else was normal, clear, bright, etc. I dunno what was going on, other than maybe the 'regular' HD tuner was not doing so well with a 4K signal. But that doesn't make sense...
I'll have to sniff around the Comcast channels and see where the 4K feed comes in. I dislike going through one of the streaming apps on the Roku because it's a PITA to switch between games during commercial breaks.
September 27th, 2022 at 9:22 AM ^
We can barely get sports broadcast in 1080p on a consistent basis. I'm not going to hold my breath for 4K ever being the standard.
September 27th, 2022 at 9:25 AM ^
I watched the 4k stream for a game earlier this season and loved it. Instead of going to commercials they just zoomed out and showed the field with crowd noise. It was so pleasant.
September 27th, 2022 at 9:57 AM ^
all you fancy high techies..... i have tin foil on the rabbit ears of my zeinth tv, so I can get the game.
September 27th, 2022 at 10:35 AM ^
I normally go HD antenna when I can because the feed is the quickest. You don't get spoilers from twitter or game threads.
But I started the YTTV 4K trial to watch the Maryland game. The stream was fine, but I was way behind the antenna. Like nearly 2 plays. Will continue for the month then re-evaluate.
What's kinda annoying with the 4K package is as far as I can tell the only thing you get is the Fox 4K channel (?), which depends on if the game you want has 4K. So it's $9.99/month for like a few hours a week.
