2021 OG Rocco Spindler names M to final 5
That's right, class of 2021 original gangsta Rocco Spindler named Michigan to his final 5, which also includes OSU, LSU, PSU, and Notre Dame. He had previously named a top 10, so this cuts out Tennessee, Florida, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Arizona State.
Spindler is a 4-star, the #2 offensive guard, and #44 overall. Out of 8 crystal ball picks, 4 are for Michigan and 4 are for Notre Dame. It may or may not be noteworthy that the last 3 are in favor of Notre Dame (Tom Loy, Kevin Sinclair are ND people; Bill Kurelic is an OSU guy).
Also, Ft. Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas linebacker Jaydon Hood named Michigan to his final 10. He's a 4-star, the #11 outside linebacker, and #298 overall. Michigan has both of the crystal ball picks for him (Steve Lorenz, Sam Webb).
In other random news, Howard quarterback Caylin Newton - the younger brother of Cam - is transferring to Auburn, where he is likely to play receiver. (He has two years left, and sophomore Bo Nix is established as the starting QB.)
None of this is earth-shattering news, but hey...it's a slow time.
On a personal note, I discovered this Joe Chocolate Co. product that's a combination of dark chocolate and espresso beans. I'm totally high right now on espresso beans.
I wouldn't panic about the slight run of balls to ND for Spindler. Loy and Sinclair are notorious for jumping the gun on picking guys to ND. I think it's pretty much a dead lock right now, with ND maybe slightly ahead, but nothing M can't close on.
Even with context, grown men reading and completely understanding the words “a run of balls” will always be ridiculous and funny to me. Because we care and a little part of me will always happily be 12 years old.
I hinted at this a month ago on here, but since things have changed a little I will just flat out explained what happened.
I posted on here “something happened” with Spindler & ND. What happened was he told ND he was coming. But he still wanted to take his five OVs if/when they were allowed to happen. ND accepted this.
Over the past month PSU has really came on strong, passing Michigan up & closing in on ND.
ND is the leader still, then PSU, then UM. But he did halfway silent to ND about 6 weeks ago with the agreement he would still do OVs later.
A "halfway silent" commit is the most recruiting thing ever.
It’s a weird year with the current situation.
There are a lot of kids committing to places without ever visiting to hold a spot.
There are going to be a lot of decommits & flips this season once OV’s are allowed again.
Your right about a weird year, we have been trying to get to camps and they got cancelled. Still hoping we have football this year as the boy just lost out on sophomore baseball season cuz of covid. Coach said they may try and get summer travel team together so kids at least get some development in. I have been checking for football camps but most dates are tentative.
Do you have a source for this? Do you know the family or something? Cus this oddly specific unless you have a really good source
I remember when he alluded to this back then. He's giving us more specifics now. I believe he said he knew a recruiting analyst who covered the Great Lakes region. I don't get the negs though. Sure the message sucks because now we're behind PSU when I thought ND was our only hurdle with him but anyone who can give us inside stuff whether it be good or bad I'm glad to get it.
I agree , just because the news is not positive doesn't mean we don't want to hear it.
Yes.
I know even more about it too, including the story of how/when it happened.
Sidenote: Also will let you in on the Ryan Barnes situation. He is visiting his grandparents in Northern Indiana as we speak & all of them together will be visiting ND’s campus. They can’t see coaches while there, but he wants to be there with his family on campus when he commits. So he will have to call them while there to commit.
Ive posted other info about recruits I think Michigan will land on here too but people ignore it.
Regarding that last part for those of us who may have missed those posts could you give a yes or no for these names whether you think UM will get them? (I'm already putting Colson down as a yes)
Edwards
Dellinger
Cole
Kendall
Worthy
Dixon
Somerville
Bennett
Rooks
Benny
Hood
McMillon
I don’t like to guess, but I will tell you the kids I’ve had multiple people tell me (so they are all in agreement) that UM gets (like Dixon). And I will tell you which ones are not deciding any time soon (like Edwards).
1618, any insight you can share on what has given ND and PSU the leg up and/or if it’s anything the good guys can possibly overcome? Just curious if there is anything specific beyond general feel or comfort level.
Sure.
First, ND.
His father was recruited by Holtz in the 80’s & they had a great relationship. Then on a random chance, Spindler’s family & Holtz were at an event in Mexico together. Holtz spent a little time with Rocco talking recruiting & life decisions. It was the same talk Holtz had with his father. Rocco’s dad was immediately sold. Rocco also was sold.
Then Rocco contacted Quentin Nelson. And I don’t care who you are a fan of, Nelson is a bad mofo. Spindler is a LG. Nelson is a LG. Nelson talked to Rocco at length about ND & being an AA in college & All Pro as a rookie in the NFL.
Rocco wants to be the next Nelson.
Next, PSU.
The one position in football that players want to play with other greats is OL. PSU already got Tengwall & is the leader for Rucci. Rocco wants to play on a dominant OL. That’s how PSU closed the distance on ND, by landing Tengwall & probably getting Rucci. ND has Fisher, but missed on Milum & Johnson. So ND’s OL class in 2021 is weak compared to what PSU can get.
People won’t be happy to hear this on here, but Rocco’s only plus to UM is legacy & location. He likes other schools & coaches more.
Hopefully you are wrong cuz there’s nothing more important than talent on the OL and DL. ND was easily my second choice for college if I didn’t go to UM though. Spent many summers there and loved the campus and the people. Not many places are better to watch a football game either.
Wiltfong just CB’d Rucci to Wisconsin on Thursday. Wiscy is where his brother plays.
Yeah, the obvious connection to Wisky is his brother, but I’m still trying to figure out why Wiltfong CB Rucci to Wisky.
I mean logically speaking, what school can compare to Wisconsin in terms of developing OL and getting them drafted?
I mean PSU OL has been atrocious to mediocre for a decade. They haven’t had an OL drafted in years!
AF, is it possible to contact you in your professional capacity? if so, and if you are comfortable with that, how?
So Spindler was sold on Notre Dame by Lou Holtz who isn't even the coach there? And would rather play on a PSU OL compared to a Michigan OL that just had almost the entire OL drafted and the remaining guy is a projected 1st round pick? Sounds more like Spindler would rather just go somewhere where he knows he'll play
Question for you since you seem very knowledgeable, I hear about all the nfl guys ND has (Martin, Stanley, Nelson) but they were coached by Hiestand who is now in the NFL. Is Quinn their oline coach now held in high regard? I don’t know much about him
I was thinking the same thing - how is ND still able to use Hiestand’s track record to convince recruits?
And then look at Ed Warriner’s track record at both OSU and Michigan. Go figure!
A "halfway silent" commit is the most recruiting thing ever.
0% chance we get Dellinger, Spindler or Edwards. This class is going to be REALLY good, but just won’t include any of them. Edwards is going to Georgia, don’t get your hopes up, and Dellinger and Spindler will be signing day heart breaks.
Smash cut to Magnus in a post-espresso nap/coma
I think Spindler is leaning ND, time will tell

Dear Miss Sparty
I'm so glad that we can talk
Stop doing drugs, just take deep breaths and go on walks
I'm sending pictures of all my my artwork
You'd be so proud of my artwork
I'm so proud of you
Just keep pushing through
Turn it around and wait and see
#44 overall? Sounds like we'll finish second.
This would be a big get. Probably not favored, but seems realistic the staff could get back in it. Really hoping this class finishes strong and solidly top 10.
Hey Rocco! Come help the judge find his checkbook!
I believe it's
"Moose, Rocco; come help the judge find his checkbook."
So Magnus, what are your feelings on Demar Dorsey....sorry, wrong thread.
How High?
Hoping this Rocco Spindler recruitment turns out like the Braiden McGregor recruitment and Tom Loy makes a fool of himself once again
Loy already made a fool of himself yesterday.
He did a podcast in the morning about possible decommits from ND & said Abiara wasn’t someone to worry about. Then last night it leaked that Abiara would be flipping to Oklahoma. LOL
I actually had heard earlier this week that ND knew of this & was reaching out to other DL, (which leads me to my last point next), but it was funny listening to a podcast of Loy’s saying not to worry when ND already knew Abiara was flipping.
The last point is Bennett. Once ND realized they were losing Abiara they started contacting Bennett again. Michigan knew this & turned up the heat & that’s why all the CBs for Bennett to Michigan, because they put the full court press on for him to keep ND out of it.
Recruits are like covid-19, unpredictable and can ruin your day.
gonna need a link for that chocolate
MGoUsername checks out, practicing what he's preaching.
What's our final number look like for this class?
20 three stars. All of them underrated. 10 of them are going to lead Michigan to a Big Ten championship.
True. All Massachusetts 3 stars are underrated. Don’t tell anyone.
We even had two guards who worked in shifts. Both named Rocco.
I want Rocco to play for U of M but I think some people are dramatic they say if we miss on him all is lost. Obviously want as much high end talent as possible but it seems the oline depth will remain stocked with Ed in charge. I think the same thing about Edwards.
All hope is not lost if he doesn’t come here but it is another hit to Harbaughs recruiting of elite instate talent if he can’t land either Rocco or Edwards. I’d take an elite OL over an elite RB any day though.
But let's say worst case scenario was add Drew Kendall, Bounds/Cole, and Prophet Brown for that same grouping? Obviously could be better but is it the end? I say meh.
I agree that an elite OL is more important than an elite RB but it’s so hard to predict which OL recruits will become elite college players so I would take Edwards over Spindler. I think Edwards is a can’t miss prospect, but I’m not certain about Spindler, or any other OL recruits.
Chocolate covered espresso beans are dangerous. You think they're chocolate so you keep popping them. And it's not like you're running hot water over the beans. You're eating the damn beans.
80 beans later you're really fucked up man.
Don't be shocked when he lands at PSU.
This recruitment has all the makings of a Frames Janklin special.
