better there than MSU
Another instate whiff by Michigan. There is a disconnect between SE Michigan players and Michigan right now. Losing to State, and that horrible bowl game performance has really hurt local recruiting.
I don’t recall seeing you in any of the 7-8 recent HELLO posts.
Odd.
well played sir
Not much of a whiff it hurts yes, but tough to land players who want to see immediate playing time when we are stacked at the linebacker position for the next couple years but I agree on the disconnect between SE Michigan players and our university.
Bluey?
Losing Wheatley, Sr. didn’t help either. I think the Moore hire will pay dividends here though not in this class because relationships have already been formed, but 2020 and beyond should be better.
Do you know a Dick Withers from Coldwater?
I think that guy is Dick Whithers.
Explains why he is miserable
Nah, it's because we lost Enos.
I think you hit the nail on the head, Coldwater. Except those with character issues or grade issues, Michigan should always be a top choice with in-state kids.
Am i the only one that doesn't care where a player comes from??
Nope...
Recruit nationally and bring in the best players/fit possible. And win some damn championships please. That will make this recruiting thing a lot easier. I mean, JH has recruited well, but imagine what recruiting will look like after UM wins the B1G this year...its going to be so sweeeet :)
It's possible that recruits from the northern tier of states might have fully formed expectations of the Michigan winter weather, and less potential for an unpleasant realization.
Yes, there is a disconnect, but really? Losing to State and a loss in the bowl game = bad for recruiting, but widespread culture of rape after a 3-9 season = good for recruiting? State is having a very good year recruiting by their standards after the tire fire that has gone on there for the last two years.
It's about what the coaches tell them, and if they believe them. Right now the instate kids seem to believe the garbage that Dantonio is feeding them, and not getting the same vibe right now from the Michigan coaches. We have had tons of turnover since Harbaugh got here; which is what happens when you hire highly qualified coaches. We need some stability going forward to allow the coaches to build the relationships.
State us having an ok year recruiting coming off a 10 win season. The state of Michigan has a lot of highly rated recruits this year and a lot are leaving the state. You have to figure that 'Rape U' played a pretty big part in that. Michigan doesn't seem to have as strong of relationships with this class, but has cleaned up in recent years. It will get back on track. A lot of the top 10 players decided to leave the state as opposed to go to Michigan State. MSU has 2 top 10 players, UM has 2, 5 are leaving and 1 is uncommitted. MSU has a lot of lower rated kids (6 players ranked 11-36) and might pick up a couple more but the state of Michigan historically has not produced a lot of strong players, especially with lower rankings.
I agree Michigan has to have better relationships in its back yard. I tend to think a winning season will do a lot for Michigan recruiting. I would prefer it do more for us nationally than in our back yard, but I am sure it will do both.
Dantonio has been a great coach, you can't fault a kid for playing football at MSU. The school has been horrible and I can't imagine why any parent would even consider allowing their child to attend MSU, even for free. What happened is appalling! I suspect that is at least a decent part of the reason MSU has not done better in state this year or out of state for that matter.
MSU's top 4 recruits (1 - 5* and 1 - 4*) are from the state of Michigan, aside from that they have no 4 stars and only 1 kid ranked in the top 500. I have to think 'Rape U' has something to do with that.
Yes I agree there is a disconnect. If you can’t admit it then you’re not being honest. I don’t however think it’s because of last years record. We just aren’t prioritizing the local kids as much as we should IMO and they can sense it.
Some of you are just flat out in denial. I said the same thing about OH 2 years ago and got ripped apart on here. Apparently someone agreed because a bigger emphasis has been placed on OH.
We need to fix the disconnect, plain and simple.
Those of you stating “who cares where the talent comes from” just don’t get it.
Cine was digging on some VIPER tape when he was on campus so really hope we land that guy.
When Penn State only wins 8-9 games this year they're going to get some decommits. It's a shame their non conference schedule sucks - maybe the Pitt island of misfit toys can do it again?
Perhaps Pat Narduzzi can conjure enough hate for his little brother team to beat the in-state power.
Where is bluey and why is he not saying Harbaugh can't recruit the state???
He went silent when somebody figured out who he was on Twitter.
Shawn L Martin, for those wondering.
I went from hating on the guy to feeling a bit sorry for him. I looked at his Twitter feed and realized that the guy literally hates on Michigan for all of his waking hours. Nothing else going on in his life.
no way to live a life.
He also hates on OSU. 11 Warriors also outed him as a troll. There’s a lot of hate in his life.
Sad.
Was he seriously posting comments on 11 warriors?
I was harsh on him here because, well, he was an asshole in commit posts, which to me seems like one of the few safe zones on this site. But yeah, that Twitter feed made me realize it really wasn't a game or some persona he was playing here like your usual troll, and that's gotta be a rough way to go through you days.
And a trollin’ I will go!
HA! I sent him a single tweet and he blocked me already.
It was pretty cold, though.
I think he was caved again.
Et tu, Bluey?
Some people just like pedophelia.
I mean, that's technically true but I don't think it's fair to imply James Franklin is going to get handsy with the guy.
He probably just wanted to go to school out of state.
This was expected all along.
In a move that surprised no one. Penn State is a great program right now so can’t blame him for making that choice.
Best of luck to him.
Wish him luck. I do wonder if all of these out-of-state commits stick through the season. I assume the staff won't let up contact, and it would be interesting to see 5 of the top 10 kids in the state leave.
Good Luck Lance, stay healthy and enjoy 3rd place?
If we get Cine then it doesn't matter since we were recruiting both as viper. I wonder if PSU was recruiting them both for the same spot as well. Probably not since ones technically a OLB and the other a safety but who knows.
