2016 Michigan Lax schedule taking shape

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

For whatever reason, it's taking the athletic department a really long time to release the lax schedule so I went digging myself and piece it together.

Haven't found anything to confirm this but I'm certain we'll see a return trip to play ND as they finally came to Oosterbaan last year.

Date Opponent
1/30 vs Marquette (exhibition)
2/6 at North Carolina
2/14 vs Colgate
2/20 at Pennsylvania
2/24 at Detroit (Ultimate Soccer Arena in Pontiac)
2/27 Delaware (in Orange County, CA)
3/5 vs Vermont
3/12 at Brown
3/19 vs Dartmouth
3/23 vs Marist
4/2 vs Maryland*
4/9 or 4/10 at Rutgers*
4/16 at Ohio State* (in Ohio Stadium)
4/23 vs Johns Hopkins*
4/28 at Penn State*
5/5 B1G Tournament Semifinals (Baltimore)
5/7 B1G Tournament Championship (Baltimore)

The Maryland game is Saturday 4/2 at 1:00 PM according to the calendar that was given out at the Women's Gymnastics exhibition on Sunday.  It is weird that the schedule hasn't been released.  Maryland and Rutgers haven't released their schedule yet either and OSU's just came out today.

Also, at UNC on February 6th.

Sorry, it was just a calendar with the dates and times (but not opponents) for all Michigan athletics home events in 2016.

For men's lax, it had:

January 30, 1:00 PM

February 14, 1:00 PM

March 5, 1:00 PM

March 19, 1:00 PM

March 23, 7:00 PM

April 2, 1:00 PM

April 23, 7:00 PM

Thanks for posting this, I have been checking a few sites recently for the schedule to see which games I can attend this year.

Those that are interested in learning more about Michigan lacrosse or lacrosse in general should check out either insidelacrosse.com or laxpower.com. Inside lacrosse covers recruiting
somewhat and news across the country. Laxpower is basically power rankings that ranks high school and college programs
throughout the country. Laxpower is
nice because like WD they compile the schedule as other teams announce their schedules.

I don't think the scheduling is lax at all -- seems like they're working hard on it.  Some good games next year.

I'll see myself out.

WD or anyone in the know...is this the year we finally take the next step forward and compete within our conference and for an NCAA bid? At this point the entire roster was recruited to play at the varsity level

Probably not. The B1G is loaded and probably the second-best conference in the country.

It will be a successful season if we can get past the 5-win mark that we've been stuck at for two years now and make the B1G Tournament.

I see a possibility for 8-wins in the regular season and making the B1G tournament.

Experienced team that has been through a lot, great goalies (plural). It's time to get on the good side of .500 and at least give ourselves a chance of getting to the NCAA Tournament by qualifying for the B1G.

The program needs that defining win over a ranked team. What would be better than going into the toilet-shaped stadium on April 16th and beating that team in front of a bunch of clueless football fans of theirs that will be there for their spring game?

Yeah, Wolverine Devotee is right.  Unfortunately not yet.  They're definitiely getting better but its much slower than most of us anticipated (other new programs have shot right past Michigan).

But I like they're loading up the sched with tough OOC opponents - I like the ND game and that opener vs UNC, although that one might hurt a little.  And I should be living in Philadelphia then so I'm psyched to check them out against Penn at Franklin Field!

Remember that they did it pretty differently than many of those others you mention, plus they've played a much tougher schedule, starting in year one, than most new programs do.  As a club team alum I'm thankful they did it the way they did.  I feel included.  I'm confident that in a few years, with the recruiting they are doing (they are putting together elite classes that will start arriving in a couple of years according to many in the coaching world) and the new facilities finally completed that they will leapfrog some of those other new programs you mention.  They are going to have to.  None of those other teams are playing in the Big Ten.

But damn, that season starts early.  I have to imagine its pretty cold even in Chapel Hill, NC on Feb 6.  Playing lacrosse in February sucks, and watching it in Febuary is even worse.

NCAA needs to push it back a little.  I know Memorial Day has been the tradition, but maybe move the championship weekend to sometime in early/mid June.

Excited for the season. I also agree that a successful year would be taking a step forward and approaching .500 or beating a ranked team. We've come close the past few years, and it would be nice to see the team take that next step and finally do it. The team has a few more pieces in place and I think moving KJ to attack will make a big impact.

WD, Nice work.  Did you put this together from the schedules released by everyone else?  JP sent out the schedule to alums a few weeks ago and indicated it would be released soon.  Wondering what the holdup has been.  I imagine this kind of thing will be eased when they have their own facility.  It has to be more difficult to put all of this together when you are using shared facilities.

Last year the team was on TV quite a bit, especially down the stretch.  Any idea what the TV schedule will be?

Those first three games are going to be tough.  We'll see early how much the team has improved.

My sense is this team has all of the pieces necessary to compete this year except for an elite faceoff specialist.  That's a big hole though.  That and goalie are arguably the two most important factors.  I'm not saying they match up with Hopkins and Maryland and the like yet.  They don't have a single preseason AA and those teams are loaded with them.  But they can play with them.  Even with some glaring weaknesses they came within a goal of beating Penn State to make the Big Ten tournament last year.  I'm sure they'll be picked by everyone to finish 5th or last, but it's not out of the question to sneak into that 4th spot.  I'd feel a bit more comfortable if it was last year's schedule with PSU, OSU and RU at home.
