2012 Rivals 250 to Watch is out
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/rankings/rank-2851
Today, Rivals release their 250 to Watch list for 2012, which includes six players from Michigan. Four of them should be household names to Wolverine fans already:
- Danny O'Brien
- Royce Jenkins-Stone
- James Ross
- Terry Richardson
The other two I am not familiar with (Efe Scott-Emuakpor and Kelby Latta).
Anyway, since Rivals usually has at least 250 4* members (well, the top 30 or so of their rankings are 5*), this is a decent barometer of an initial top 250 of Rivals rankings.

I'm drooling at the thought of landing Barry Sanders Jr. but I haven't seen anything about any Michigan interest. Where did you read this?
February 9th, 2011 at 2:22 PM ^
Sanders isn't coming. I'd originally done it up as interested or notable prospects but MH20 beat me to the punch in posting. I could edit it but I feel much happier thinking we'd have a shot at landing Sanders
February 9th, 2011 at 2:26 PM ^
I was going to make the post prettier with some more links and lists of guys we are/probably will be after, but I really had to take a deuce, so I got up what I did and then made way for the restroom.
P.S. Excellent list above.
P.P.S. Sorry for the TMI.

BS Jr. is not coming here. I know Nick Saban met him at his school during the no contact period, which he obviously denied.

February 9th, 2011 at 2:39 PM ^
Maty Mauk threw for 5,700+ yds and 69 TD's as a junior. That is insane.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:36 PM ^
would have to believe that he goes to ND, given his brother Ben's success with Brian Kelly at Cinci
February 9th, 2011 at 3:40 PM ^
Missouri leads as ND is more going after Gunner Kiel, who is a legacy of sorts, by way of his uncle.

I scout for a team in Latta's conference and his school, Harper Creek, is our main rival. I'll be able to give a first hand take him as the season progresses. Talk around here has him as a Badger lean, due to the style of offense ran at Michigan by RR. Maybe something changes if Hoke gets his chance. I can say that they conference isn't exactly the strongest in West Michigan, but there should be a couple good tests for him.

It's back
February 9th, 2011 at 2:11 PM ^
I noticed at least 4 guys on there out of Our Lady Of Good Counsel. I hope Hoke taps in there and gets some assistance from Countess.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:12 PM ^
Latta is apparently a Wisconsin lean.
Scott-Emuakpor is a really tall, lanky guy from Lansing. He looks athletic but kind of raw as well.
February 9th, 2011 at 4:39 PM ^
Is it true that Scott-Emuakpor a msu lean or does he just go to a msu feeder school?
February 9th, 2011 at 2:15 PM ^
4 kids from Our Lady of Good Counsel in Maryland. that school always pumps out great talent. i'd love to see us really make significant inroad there.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:48 PM ^
best of the Our Lady of Good Council kids, and he is very good friends with Blake (our recent commit from that school). Also, he is a WR and we have 3 seniors next season at that position.
February 9th, 2011 at 4:52 PM ^
that's what Maryland does.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:17 PM ^
also, no wormley???
February 9th, 2011 at 2:19 PM ^
He's on the list.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:18 PM ^
Barry Sanders Jr.
I hear that he's not leaving Big 12 country anytime. His dad still lives in West Bloomfield so if he wants to be closer to his dad, Michigan is a possibility but an extremely long shot nonethless.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:20 PM ^
Should we start an NFL player son pipeline like Beilein seems to be doing with basketball?
February 9th, 2011 at 3:07 PM ^
We could recruit a whole defense full of Antonio Cromartie's kids....ZING!
February 9th, 2011 at 3:10 PM ^
Not enough room on the roster.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:11 PM ^
Double Zing!!! If the apple didnt fall far from the tree I'd imagine they wouldn't qualify academically.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:24 PM ^
also Efe has visited ND twice already
February 9th, 2011 at 2:32 PM ^
No Godin? Seems odd to me.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:36 PM ^
He'll be top ten in the state but top 250 in the whole country will be a stretch. He's still a player Michigan should pursue heavily, though.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:40 PM ^
Great so we're in on 6 guys in Rivals' first top 250 ranking. 6. Doesn't that seem pretty low? I know the whole "win and they will follow" addage, but wasn't 6 around what we had this year?
All the people shouting "Michigan and Ohio talent is as high as it's ever been" and "We're going to have a great recruiting class this year because of the talent level in the Midwest" are smoking some serious crack.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:47 PM ^
Is this serious? Michigan has a chance at seven or eight high four star guys, all from Michigan and Ohio, not to mention recruits from other parts of the country that they'll be in on as we get deeper into the class. Guys like Allen Gant and Ifeadi Odenigbo are big time talents who OSU may not even offer and who aren't even on this list. Wormley will be a top five fuy in the state of Ohio. When was the last time Michigan had chance at a guy like that?
Not to mention it's a year before signing day and this list will change by the time the season starts.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:16 PM ^
It was serious.
I was here for the NSD liveblog, and all I heard was "Ooooohhh man 2012 here we come!!!". Well, it looks like we have a shot with 6-8 kids that will be 4 stars or higher. That's not exactly great. I'd be willing to bet large sums of money there are at least 15 teams that have more interest from more 4/5 stars than Michigan.
Of course the list WILL shift, and wins WILL raise interest from top flight recruits. I am just stating that I think people on this board shot their load too quickly saying MI and OH talent will just fall into our laps. Another reason being, we won't get all of these guys who are interested, and we've seen over the years (both Lloyd and RR) that getting 5-star instate talent is no cake walk.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:26 PM ^
Some people do get too excited over prospects and they oversimplify the process, but this class really has a chance to be one of the better ones in the country at the end of the day. It's too early to judge either way, but a top ten caliber class can be the backbone to a return to contending for a B1G title every year, and it can provide plenty of momentum for subsequent recruiting classes.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:30 PM ^
NSD was a week ago. Relax.
February 9th, 2011 at 7:06 PM ^
Freaking out about next year's recruiting class on February 9 seems like a frivolous endeavor.
February 10th, 2011 at 3:59 AM ^
That was about the jist of what I was going to post....so thank you Magnus.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:49 PM ^
Yep nothing like judging the recruiting class in February of the year before based on a watch list.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
You seem like an angry person.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
Who said only 6 guys? Is it not possible that we are in on guys that you don't know about?

Your FACTS and RESEARCH are getting in the way of ANGAR.
February 9th, 2011 at 2:43 PM ^
Gunner Kiel of Ohio is on the list and high on Michigan. I must say, he has a great name for a QB.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:05 PM ^
Gunner Kiel is from Columbus, Indiana, not Columbus, Ohio.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:31 PM ^
everything changed once we hired Greg Mattison.
February 9th, 2011 at 3:49 PM ^
Following recruiting never gets old for me and I'm already excited about following the next class. Hopefully we can pull some nice kids out of the midwest and keep the Texas thing going along with the apparent MD talent that is there.

I want E.S.E here
