As for the 21 incoming freshman in 2009, please correct me if I am wrong as to the red-shirts:

Why must there be a different thread about this every week? The rules don't change from week-to-week. Let's just rehash the "old" thread and update the names. I don't think there have been any changes to who can redshirt and who cannot.

Why must you complain about this thread? It's helpful. There isn't a way to bump topics to the front of the MGoBoard, so rehashing wouldn't get the answers this guy is looking for.

Maybe there should be some kind of cap on how low a post can go (like say, -5), to be removed at the discretion of the board monitors. So if a post is truly objectionable, the monitors could remove the cap and let people neg away, but something like tpilews' posts here (which are mildly disagreeable at worst) wouldn't get overly penalized.

I don't have a problem with this thread because it is at least a helpful resource, but it probably would have been a cool idea to track from the beginning of the season by adding to the original thread each post.

Looking at your list of those you were not sure of: Not one of them is on the participation log over at mgoblue.com. So, according to RR in his most recent conference, those guys will redshirt.

Just to clarify:
As soon as a player plays ONE PLAY in any game, whether it's offense, defense or special teams, they are not eligible for a redshirt.
A player can get a medical redshirt if they have played in 30% or less of their team's games. 4 games "rounds down" so to speak, so functionally it's 33%

I believe that in addition to the limited number of games, all of them have to be in the first half of the season to qualify for a "medical hardship waiver". Obviously, the absence has to be due to a medical issue.
I feel like there are exceptions from time to time however. Wasn't Lloyd holding out hope that Gutz could get a medical redshirt in 2004 even though he held FGs or extra points for basically the entire year?

I believe your list is just about right, except for the fact that if there is a rush of injuries (one that comes to mind is if, say, Ortmann and Nowicki got injured), MAYBE Lewan would have to play at LT. But, that is a really, really, low probability case.
As for your list, this is the team we support. Please, please, spell their names right. Eventually, we all hope to see Michael Schofield, Anthony LaLota and Fitzgerald Toussaint, among these other redshirting kids, on the field. They go through a lot (in time, in school, in preparation) to represent the school and the football team we all support. The least we can do is show them respect by correctly identifying them.

Great news that we can have a bunch of players redshirt. It's unfortunate that we had to play so many freshmen this year, but that's what happens when you're rebuilding. Can't wait to see all those guys next year.

I was kind of hoping Je'Ron would redshirt, but it just means he'll be that much better/experienced come next year.

FYI TB - Toussaint
Last week I was listening to the Thursday night coach's show on the radio and RB coach Jackson had very, very high praise for this kid, but he apparently has been injured, so it's a redshirt for him this year. No word on what the injury was, exactly, but it didn't sound career-threatening or anything.
Jackson compared him to Mike Hart, IIRC correctly. I know Jackson tends to hype up his players some but it sounds like if Toussaint is healthy next season he might see some playing time as a RS FR.

"I know Jackson tends to hype up his players some" That may be one of the biggest understatements I have ever heard. That guy hypes everyone beyond belief IME (which is fine, don't get me wrong). I just find it funny that everyone he talks about is the fastest guy he has ever coached.
On the Hart thing....Toussaint is much faster than Hart was, so if all the rest of their attributes are similar, Toussaint could be in for a great career at UM.

IIRC, he got hurt at the beginning of the season, or before the season. Nothing serious, but no need to waste a year. The RB situation is WIDE open next year. Shaw will probably get the first look. Smith will get some carries. Cox has impressed with limited action. UM certainly has its options at RB.

The injury was to his shoulder. Didn't get word whether it was the AC Joint, but that isn't that big of a deal.

This thread is an exemplar of negbang abuse. Neg/pos should be tweaked - it should cost the donor.

UM's roster is around 70 percent freshmen and sophomores. It will be great to see what this team is like when RR has his own fifth-year seniors playing on it.

am really surprised that Hawthorne did not redshirt, he came in weighing 200#'s. I thought he would redshirt with mouton being a junior. Thought that would make sense so he could bulk up, I watched his videos and this kid is explosive he just flies to the ball. Really excited to see him play.

Hawthorne is still on track to being redshirted. He's played on special teams only in the amount of games you can play and still receive the "dubious" medical redshirt. Vlad was also on track for redshirt, but that was burned against Del State.

Perhaps Brian should post the rules about redshirting. Then we could get rid of this silly theory that a kid can play in a few games and still redshirt despite not being injured.
