11 Warriors Report: OSU WR Torrance Gibson Suspended For 2016 Season
No reason on why suspended. Gibson was touted dual threat QB in High School. Troubled with hamstring injuries throughout Spring camp.

And a Michigan fan is predisposed to being skeptical of that version of events.
Hmmmmm... Sure, sounds completely unbiased and credible.

It's not like tOSU hasn't made a decade and a half of covering up for athletes in the most egregious of circumstances. Hell, it would take me a while to type it. Any read of that content over years has been nothing but tOSU apologism from tOSU media from 11W and Ramzy to Rivals etc.
You're inferring I'm skeptical because I'm from a rival fanbase? Srsly. Maybe it's just your institutional history...
I'm not surprised to see you add to that narrative...

I imagine Cal fans look at negative stuff Stanford does with extreme skepticism strictly because Stanford is their rival, despite Stanford's "clean" reputation.
A program having its coach try to cover up his QB profiting off his own likeness isn't analogous to the current situation in really any way other than the school colors, so drawing skepticism based off that history strikes me as rival-bias. Which is fine, this is a Michigan blog after all.

Is that tOSU has not exactly earned the benefit of the doubt.

If you want to make that point over instances of covering up sexual assault, then I dunno man, I think that's drawing a false equivalence. Separate entities and all that.

I took from your post that Urban was unhappy with Gibson for what he did. But I see he is unhappy with the university for suspending Gibson! Here I initially thought, well, gee, Urban is getting tough with players . . .
August 29th, 2016 at 1:41 PM ^
I would think that since it is the university's decision, he can disagree with it all he wants and their informing him is a mere formality. Considering that Gibson was supposed to be in the mix potentially at WR, that blows for Urban in that sense. Still, it's interesting that he would go out there an openly disagree like that. I wonder if he simply wanted input and didn't like just being told what the decision was - he seems a bit like the type that would bristle at that even if he did disagree.

more sense. I mean from the standpoint of response and reaction from admin to coach. Not the actual act or the move itself, just the drama and sensistivity to the Baylor case, and all that.

So not just grades, but likely some sort of academic cheating or something along those lines. He won't be in school for the Fall semester, not just off the team.
Talking with some OSU people, they were excited about his upside, but he still wasn't there yet. Had maturity issues as a RS, seemed to fix some of them, and then this happened, so we'll see how that ends up. He wasn't in the top 6 group, so guys like Mack (a true FR) were playing ahead of him already. But still, it was a position group that was expected to rotate fairly heavily. Will be interesting if he cleans things up, and if he actually does so at OSU.

Urban (shockingly) doesn't agree with the suspension.

Will this be the beginning of the end of Urbz at OSU? Could this fracture his relationship with administrators and chase him to the NFL? Is Oakland already in play?

Oakland is always in play. Unless they move to Vegas, in which case, everyone, everywhere knows that Vegas is in play.

Wasn't he a highly ranked QB recruit at first? Who the hell is their backup QB?

Out of Athens, yes, but I don't recall Harbaugh (or Hoke) recruiting him at all, let alone, going after him hard. Malzone was in the fold forever, and Gentry committed toward the end of the cycle. Burrow didn't have a Michigan offer and his timeline doesn't show visits by either party. His best other offers were VaTech, WVU, UC, and Minny.

Might as well just throw a big bucket of paint over that now since all of that has been broken multiple times.

...just like they are at every university.
August 29th, 2016 at 1:39 PM ^
WD wouldn't know much about that.
August 29th, 2016 at 2:15 PM ^
You do realize that these rules are broken at almost every school out there, right? Including our own?
Doesn't make it right, but for guys like Taylor Lewan, Brendan Gibbons, and LTT to have come through here and did what they did, I don't think Michigan has any right to claim some moral superiority.

Pathetic it even has to be put up.

Maybe like our highly recruited kids he is having issues adjusting to a program and the eyes that are on him. Seems many kids are used to getting away with everything in their little home communities and once they get on campus things get back to coaches who can't risk not moving on them for fear of the Media getting ahold of the info.

Maybe an internal scolding from Meyer about needing to use some common sense with not taking "booty shots," and running the stairs for a day, but if that's all there is to the story, that does not merit a suspension.
