The sign above the entrance to the weight room says, "Through these doors walk the best conditioned, most disciplined, and hardest working football team in America." http://nextlevelfitness.typepad.com/photos/asap_results/dsc_0528.html Not to be the grammar police, but shouldn't it be: "Through these doors walks the... hardest working football team in America?" Team is a singular noun.  That's the sort of mistake I expect from a less enlightened program. Ooooooooo Barwis.

Barwis seems more outspoken than Gittleson ever was. But in Gittleson's defense.... he and all of Michigan's fans had Lloyd Carr to blame. Michigan has been known as having the finest conditioned football players in all of college football. They (Gittleson) must have been doing something right! U of M has more active players in the NFL than any other program. Hell, these guys just beat Florida, the defending Natl champs with a Heisman quarterback to boot.....because they were fired up and mentally prepared to win. Carr finally had it right. Carr was not highly motivated and was planning retirement. That's not what we need at Michigan.... a retiring coach. Unfortunately, we'll now go through some tuff times. OSU will be dominate with their young buck QB. Illinois is an up and comer with Zook at the helm. Barwis will be good... but, Gittleson was not what was wrong with our Wolverines.

Michigan has absolutely NOT been known as having the best conditioned athletes in all of college football.  It's been common practice for years for NFL teams to draft Michigan players higher than they grade out based on the knowledge that many of them have not been training properly.

Also, Michigan does not have more active players in the NFL than any other school.  They have a lot and they are up there, but they do not have the most.

That flurry of words I probably don't fully understand at the end of Part One is vintage Barwis. A guy like this is going to be an incredible asset as long as he is here. I have no doubt that, in the purely athletic sense, our guys will be the best prepared athletes for a football game and a football season in the nation. It appears that all the pressure for success is going to be on RR to give them an effective philosophy of play, because Barwis is going to be feeding the program some seriously fit SOB's.

I went to the clinic and got to meet Mike, it was awesome. All kinds of people come work for him for free, and his staff are in awe of him a little bit too. One of the best parts was he took a shot at Boren in the clinic. Barwis also can do a push up without his arms...

imagine a normal pushup position, lying on the ground flat.  He then takes his arms and puts them stretched out over his head like he was going to dive into a pool.  With one hand on top of the other he would do a push up.  It was sick.

annarbor, "Michigan has been known as having the finest conditioned football players in all of college football"? Not in the last 10-15 years (at least). People who know this stuff have been saying for years that Gittleson's methods were horribly outdated.

"because they were fired up and mentally prepared to win." Yes. Or, it could be because the offense was more wide open, Chad Henne had a throwing arm, and Mike Hart had two good legs. Nah, probably because they read poetry extra hard in the locker room.

Should I care that Barwis keeps using the word "atypically" on the podcast when he means "typically?" Or is that all part of his bizarro Mike Gittelson mojo?
