Big Ten Recruiting Class Rankings 8-21-10
Action since last rankings:
8-18-10 Wisconsin gains commitment from Bennett Okotcha.
8-19-10 Michigan State gains commitment from Jack Allen.
Slow week in the Big Ten, as I predicted. The sites should be coming out with updated rankings soon, so keep an eye out for that.

just for good record keeping, you got a typo in your big table. michigan state is 4th with a label of 5 and michigan 5th with a label 4

I'm a little surprised MSU is ranked so high because they basically go Thomas, one more 4*, then not much else. Still, I am liking how this class is shaping up. Hopefully after 9/4 some of the kids on the fence will go blue.
August 23rd, 2010 at 10:56 AM ^
MSU has a 5* and two 4*.
We have three 4*.
I don't think it's surprising that they're ahead for now. We'll jump back ahead after we land Frost/Grant/Zettel, etc.
August 23rd, 2010 at 11:33 AM ^
The chart has since been updated, so yeah my comment doesn't make as much sense. Still, they drop-off after Thomas is a little surprising considering how all I've been hearing is how MSU is just cleaning up in-state. Still, right now they certainly should be above UM.

For MSU:
Joel Heath is a 4 star on Scout
Paul Lang is a 3 star on Scout

Do rankings for a particular kid ever go down? It seems that everyone goes up... but if everyone goes up, is a particular kid any better? He's pretty much in the same relative spot as he was before.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:06 AM ^
A few guys will move down. Ricardo Miller went from the top 100 to a generic 3-star last year, for example.
August 23rd, 2010 at 7:45 AM ^
Probably not the right thread for this, but can anybody jog my memory about why UM and MSU were so cool on Jonathan Hankins last year? Thanks.
August 23rd, 2010 at 9:08 AM ^
His film was only "meh," considering the talent discrepancy between his team (with Will Gholston, Ed Davis, and others) and those he was facing. He had trouble staying in shape, and didn't blow either staff away at their camp enough that they wouldn't worry about the other two question marks.
August 23rd, 2010 at 2:35 PM ^
Cool, thanks for the info. I'm not really much at evaluating film (aside from "he's looks fast" or "he tackled that guy!"), but I didn't understand why MSU and UM were cool on him, but OSU, 'Bama, and UF were high on him. I guess if they had the chance to evaluate him in person at camp, they had a chance to make a solid evaluation.

August 23rd, 2010 at 10:05 AM ^
He's supposedly "blowing up" in the preseason scrimmages and practices (which, I assume, is why you asked). He's already 2nd team at a loaded DT position.
Just goes to show how inexact the whole rating business is. Especially with the "bigs".
August 24th, 2010 at 9:22 AM ^
I think that size at that age can go so far in either direction. Looks like we got lucky with big Hank. Cam Heyward: "hank could be the next Dan Wilkinson". /tingle
August 24th, 2010 at 2:12 PM ^
I anticipate their class will go down the rankings quite a bit as other teams fill out their classes. We will have a deep talented class where they will have a elite player and not much else.
