WTKA Roundtable 6/6/2019: Ask Me If I Know Comment Count

Seth June 7th, 2019 at 8:20 AM

NOTE: We never got the 5/30 one on our feed because of staff shortfalls. Part 1 is here. Part 2. Part 3.

Things discussed:

  • Martelli upon further review: Unlucky to be as bad as they were. Never recruited a top 100 guy. He is the history of St. Joe's on Kenpom.
  • Craig: he's candid, fills a need. Ed: remember him taking Stanford down to the wire.
  • Sam: Coaches argue sometimes, shares an Illinois story when assistant and Beilein went back and forth on man/zone.
  • Brian: He's never seen a Teske at St. Joe's.
  • NCAA three-point line: effect? Smaller corner than the NBA?
  • Got recruiting zones down: Philly/East Coast, Chicago, Detroit, W-Mich/Ohio
  • Not a "We offer you after you get to campus" team anymore.
  • Oliver Martin: Sam takes us through all of the events: heard he wasn't on campus, then he made it, Gattis left SMSB early to meet with him, Oliver at next workout, with the crew, he's our brother. Next day: transferring.
  • Sam practically begging for that hack who pretends to have access to step up again.
  • The nature of SOURCES
  • Doesn't make a lot of sense unless he's miserable/thinks he can get a waiver to play right away in Iowa
  • Clearing up baseball ticket "allotments"—this is a UCLA home game.
  • Baseball is the game of summer.

You can catch the entire episode on Michigan Insider's podcast stream on Podbean.

Segment two is here. Segment three is here.

I wonder what Sam thinks of Yoder?

Edit for clarification: I listened to it and was making a sarcastic comment re: Sam (justifiably) dragging Yoder.

Someone should tell Craig summer league baseball already exists. The northern schools breaking off would just mean the end of baseball in northern colleges.

I mean, I get it. Yoder is a piece of crap. Not sure it's such a good look for Sam to do what he did here though. If he has something to say, just say it. Otherwise, just ignore him.

I wound up visiting Yoder's twitter feed (he apparently blocked me at some point for some other instance where he was an asshole and got called for it), and a solid 45% of his tweets were making fun of Sam Webb and attacking his appearance, his writing ability, his intelligence, etc.  But while Sam Webb has a prominent position online, on the radio, and in the UM community, Yoder is a guy struggling to attract eyeballs to a shitty Youtube page where he provides insights like "Michigan always loses to OSU in blowouts in even years, close games in odd years" despite evidence on his screen directly refuting that statement.

Sam Webb going after Yoder just signal-boasts that asshole and does nothing for Sam.  It's why Webb largely stays above it, but it doesn't mean he can't point out that the guy is a hack and people who believe him are going to be disappointed.

Be a breathe of fresh air to hear Webb go off on actual coaches and ADs how he does on Yoder.

Stop with the false bravado, Sam. That was embarrassing.

After reading the note that the staff didn't put up the 5/30 podcast, I looked up to see the JH picture.  I thought it was another facepalm-like gif.
