Franz just isn't athletic enough.

Agreed. You can’t ask him to play SG or SF now that he is becoming more similar in size to his brother. Part of what made Mo so devastating is that he was guarded by the same lumbering Ents that normally guard the paint so the pick and roll and his shot fake/drive both took the big to the perimeter and eliminated him. Franz has been driving against quicker wings that can strip his dribble, and have available help from a big in the paint. His shot hasn’t been quick enough or accurate enough to fire over the shorter defender either.
If we keep throwing out a lineup with Franz guarded by a 2 or a 3, he needs to post those guys up. He can score over the top of a shooting guard, or draw help from the other big, leading to easy Dickinson buckets, or kick out to open perimeter shooters like a Bo Ryan point guard. I’d only want him driving to score if he is guarded by an oafier big.

Yes and no. He's only shooting 31% from 3, and you don't have to be athletic to hit 3s. It may be affecting the rest of his game though. He's probably better off being a 4 given his height now.

Guys worried about "security" after making literally multiple millions per year for the past 15 years in this environment is ego, full stop.

Maybe Don Brown is the investment coach? Put it all in bonds Jim! They’re the fullbacks of the investment game.

Did Sam say who won the thumb war he and the boy-man had yesterday? I've been on pins and needles.

I love the off-air discussion.

Because MGoBlog has become a major source of UM sports info for me, I shouldn't be surprised that the conversation gave me the same impression of the surprisingly positive recruitment as what I'd been reading.
Still, it's good to hear those more knowledgeable than me expressing some pleasure at the recent recruitment.

I see what you did there with the Dark reference.

First WTKA Roundtable, who is the guy who won't stfu in the bball portion?
December 17th, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
Craig Ross. He’s well loved by MGoBlog though. I agree he rambled in that section (both about the refs and not really answering the Franz question) but he’s got some great analogies and you take the bad with the good.

Franz just doesn't seem to have confidence in his shot...definitely needs to get that back. Needs a pep talk from Duncan it seems like. The NBA is a make or miss league and not being a volume shooter is actually making him a worse shooter imo.
As for football recruiting, Michigan had a good day; better than most of us thought. Makes me think Harbaugh/Gattis are coming back but not a lot of the defensive staff.
Too early to say Worthy is going to be instant impact; i think we've heard that before and the only guy that was was maybe Nico?
December 17th, 2020 at 10:25 PM ^
What I remember hearing from MGoBlog about the Nico recruiting class is freshman wide receivers suck. I don’t remember anyone expecting them to be instant impact. There are ways you could conceivably use his speed in year 1 that don’t take receiver skills though.

Seth please mute when you cough. That is all.
