Tada: Michigan's Home Jersey Comment Count

Brian

Score one for Phil Callihan. Via Varsity Blue, the home jerseys:

On the big version you can see what Callihan was talking about when he mentioned a little "strip": there are teeny block Ms on the inside and outside of the back collar. Tentative thumbs up from me; they'll probably look fine on the players.

So, Callihan is correct and didn't see something unofficial. Let's revisit the road jerseys:

The away jerseys have a thin maize piping straight across the chest. There also have a small maize strip on the back of the collar that says Michigan in blue. [he would later clarify that the strip is the block M thing above -ed]

The West Virginia-esque roadies from earlier were a false alarm, it seems.

Dex, you know the entire school will fall apart if the uniforms change.  I mean, Michigan only makes insane money off merchandise sales.  Of course they were going to let Adidas give us garish Boise State jerseys.  Wait, the jerseys look almost identical?  Hmmm, does RichRod know Steven Threet isn't Pat White?

I do think that I will miss the old material that the Nike jerseys were made with. It always made the uniforms look like they were of a higher quality than others.

It took awhile, and I hate the new format. But we all gotta change sometime, and the hew uniform is sweet.

The M on the sleeve might be too much!  Plus players today don't wear sleeves maybe back in the 90's they did.  What are they going to do, have the M on the shoulder pads?  I will have to wait and see how it looks on the players.

Also the MGOBLOG banner, is that a picture of Hart fumbling as he goes into the goal line against Florida? I know not funny since he only fumbled only a handfull of times his entire career!

I'm inclined to agree that from that image, it doesn't appear to be a block M at all on the sides but just the number. The block M certainly wouldn't be an awful, horrible look, but I'd prefer to see them stick with the old style. Just seems more right to my eyes. Frankly, I'm just annoyed that the only blue no. 1 Nike jersey I could get from M Den is like a fucking 4x. I'm fat, but not nearly that fat.

I'm not a big fan of that maize writing above the number. It appears to be three diagonal bars of varying length with some writing underneath, but it's too small for me to make out what it says. Why did that part have to change? I think Adidas should put a swoosh there like before.

Maybe it's just me, and I'll probably get torn to pieces for this, but why were we alarmed that the away jerseys might change? When I was at UofM all anyone ever did was bitch about how our away jerseys looked like scrimmage jerseys and needed more color. I for one hope they change. I always liked the home jerseys so I'm glad they aren't changing much.

I'm still skeptical that this is the final, final design. Who is Varsity Blue's source? It may be the design, but I find it hard to believe the numbers will be iron-on vs. stitched.

@echo: the site that south linked to touts the jerseys as the actual jerseys that players wear in the game.

I chatted with one of the reps on this site and he answered a few questions:

1) The numbers are printed, not sewn

2) It is a number on the sleeve, not a block M

3) The white at the bottom (back) of the jersey are slits, not white fabric

Why DON'T our home jersey's have a block M on them?

Unless you are a die-hard wolverine fan that can recognize it's a Michigan jersey just by the tint of the colors (like me), it just looks like a blue shirt with yellow numbers. It could be Deleware's.

From an apparel sales point of view (big revenue generator), you would want all those teenagers in the mall to clearly know that it is a MICHIGAN jersey. Maybe Adidas is on to this.

Trust me...you don't want a block M on the home jersey.

Nike did a navy Charles Woodson jersey and it looked terrible. I couldn't find a picture of the navy one online so I posted the white version.

Just imagine the jersey blue, no numbers on the shoulders and the letters yellow. Not a pretty sight: http://cgi.ebay.com/CHARLES-WOODSON-SIGNED-MICHIGAN-JERSEY-PSA-DNA_W0QQ…

Mich-Dog, do you really think someone out there will see a person in a Michigan jersey and think, "Wow, a Delaware fan"? I mean really. I think Delaware's the ones who need to be concerned about brand identification, not us.  (On second thought, they'll probably sell more if people can't tell the difference between theirs and Michigan jerseys...)

The home jerseys look great. I am wondering a little how this "thin maize piping straight across the chest" is going to look on the away jerseys. It seems a little odd.

In a perfect world, the numbers would be stitched on and there wouldn't be "ADIDAS" below the logo, but then again in a perfect world, I'd be too busy making out with two chicks to make this post :-/

The new one is much better. I have a feeling that the collar will be a nice touch. Now, when I rock my $90.00 M jersey, I WILL be able to score with the babes! I know it was that last jersey, and not my studley looks and really neat collection of Michigan Player cards that I show the bitchez at the bar. Nor is it my light saber. Light sabers rock! Bitchez love them! It was definitely that old jersey. The new jersey will go much better with the bow tie that I wear all the time, too. Fucking bitchez better look out! I'll get one or more of you into my pit yet!

Did you guys see that dumbass that said she saw Jeebus in her ultrasound? How in the FUCK does she know what Jeebus looks like in the first place to have something to compare it to? See how fucked up these cross jockeys are?
