Stauskas, Robinson To Enter Draft

Michigan just scooped their own press conference with a press release. Snippet:
Robinson III, Stauskas Declare for Early Entry into NBA Draft
April 15, 2014
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball head coach John Beilein announced today (Tuesday, April 15) that sophomores Glenn Robinson III (St. John, Ind./Lake Central) and Nik Stauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Mark's School [Mass.]) will forgo their final two years of eligibility and submit the necessary paperwork to declare for early entry into the 2014 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft.
"In a very short period of time, these two young men have had a very positive impact on the Michigan Basketball program," said Beilein. "From day one, Glenn and Nik have had the right attitude and work ethic that has helped us enjoy so much of our recent success."
That's the way this was going, and now it has gone. Raise your hand if you thought Michigan would have four early NBA draft entries in two years under John Beilein, let alone four in two years. That's nobody. Weird place we're in now. Great place. Weird place.
Anyway, godspeed, gentlemen. May your NBA careers be long and fruitful and draw other players of your ilk to Ann Arbor.
This trend makes being a college basketball fan less fun. I love watching players develop and grow - both as players and as young adults. It's wonderful to see what an impressive man Jordan Morgan has become. As someone above said, we're becoming "Kentucky Lite", and that makes me sad. I know it's not about me, it's just my personal feeling.
GRIII probably doesn't need the money, and from the videos of the Stauskas home it appears they're not desperate either (just guessing; I don't know either family's situation).
I sincerely wish all our guys who go early success and happiness, but I can't help thinking maybe they don't realize what a great experience they have at Michigan.
College is a blast. Real life can be hard. What's the rush? Maybe that's just nostalgia clouding my brain...
you earned it!
You have helped make Michigan basketball a power program again....slow clap to you.
Good luck and take it to them in the league
Hail
Excited to see who Beilein is targeting in out years. We are going to go potentially from a wealth of 2/3s to a dearth in 12 months if (when) Caris goes and if Irvin explodes.
I am sure even Beilein is surprised by how quickly these dudes have progressed. Now the coaching staff has to cast a wider net each year because not only does it need to account for players who will be graduated (which I believe this year will be zero) opening up scholarships but they should be accounting for 1-2 early entrees a year now too, due to their success. So if they normally start targetting 12 kids to fill open holes 3-4 years down the road, they probably need to up that to 16-18.
Anyhow, these are first world problems. Like many I am confused some on GR3 as he could have vaulted up the draft board in 2015 to the low 10s, with a steady, no disappearing 16 ppg year but kid played 2 years out of position and from comments was frustrated.
As a fan it is frustrating because just when you get attached to them they are already going. But for Burke, Nik, and to a lesser degree THJ these 3 of 4 are no brainers. (with THJ he was not as high of a prospect but there was not much more I could see him adding to his game in college to move up higher in the draft). GR3 is the only 1 of the 4 you question so what can you do - when kids are ready they are going to go nowadays.
Well I'm bummed.
Bummed to see them leave. The were a huge part of Michigan's BB resurgence. I haven't watched the NBA since the last time the Pistons were good. When a Knicks or Jazz game is on now I'll watch for a few minutes to see Hardaway and Burke. Be great to see more Michigan men in the league.
Maybe if they were unionized, and got 300 dollars a week, they would have stuck around for that Michigan diploma.

The majority of his problems could stem from the fact that he had much bigger guys defending him which made driving to the basket difficult while also making playing outside easier. Hopefully that's the reason he looked so reluctant to try and do anything other than shoot the ball.
Thanks for the memories, Nik & Glenn. I'm sorry to see you go, but I wish you well.
It seems like the obvious NBA talents aren't going to stay more than two years, but I find that preferable to one-and-dones. It's nice to see a freshman with talent really show growth the next year.
Thanks to Beilein & staff, who are really doing great work. Just need to keep open the recruiting floodgates, so the talent is replenished. Our appearances and deep runs in the Big Dance will help. I would like to see it become a really long streak.
I can't stand watching their basketball games. I cannot stand it, particularly the defense, which is virtually nonexistent. And I hate how the NBA annually strips college basketball fans of everything fresh, cool, new and awesome.
I'm very happy for Nik and Glen.. May they turn the massive piggy back that is the NBA upside down and rattle and shake it for all it's worth. Unfortunately, I will not watch them play basketball very much anymore, which makes me profoundly sad. I hope they find success.
Shows how much you know about NBA. It's nearly impossible to play defense like college because you can't grab, hand check players and/or play zone defense. The NBA players are much more proefficent in shooting the ball which makes it that much harder to guard players. There's so much more spacing in NBA that it really limit on what you can do as an individual player.
If any, it's NCAA that strip basketball fans of something fresh, cool, new and awesome with zone defense and hand checking rules.
For your sake (following your comment saying the previous poster knows nothing about the NBA) I hope they have changed the rule or you're gonna look pretty silly.
they allow zone defense. However, you will get hit with a technical foul for illegal defense for when you're inside the lane without guarding offensive player. So in reality, a zone but not really a zone defense.
Syracuse 2-3 zone defense would never work in NBA because they would get called for illegal defense in every possession.
Is he allowed to workout for teams or play in any predraft camps? What happens between and April 27th?
Basically nothing happens. There is no "testing the waters" anymore. No player can have contact with an NBA team until early May. McGary needs to make his decision based on the evaluation he got from the NBA undergraduate advisory committee.
Draft Express has a detailed explanation here.

It's a huge decision. He's smart to take his time until he feels confident about the decision. This is one of those key fork-in-the-road moments in his life.

Brian, Just read your article about Beilein's "ceiling" from 2009. One of the worst analyses I have ever read. I am not familiar with "Mgoblog", but the fact that you still are allowed to write articles about Michigan basketball is pathetic. Go back to playing Dungeons and Dragons, or please provide your relevant basketball playing and coaching experience. Feel free to email me directly to verify my credentials.
You sports geek turned cocky sports bloggers disgust me.

well that escalated...
2) That was a much different time in the life of mgoblog. Bryan has since hired people who know a fair bit about Bball and mainly sticks to football and hockey commenting
3) With your model, no one should risk doing anything outside their comfort zone ever... Better is the gladiator in the ring who loses, then the critic who comments about him. Signed - Teddy R
As momma always said," if you can't say something nice, get on the internet and say it anonymously"
I read this as a joke

how is THJ not considered an early entry? Because hes an old man as a junior? last time I checked an early entry was anyone who still had NCAA eligibility left.
