Kalel Mullings Has Committed To Michigan Comment Count

Brian June 27th, 2019 at 6:50 PM

Ah ah ah: ten commits.

Mullings is another "undersized" bullet of an inside linebacker at 6'1", 220; the consensus top prospect in Massachusetts, Mullings had offers from OSU, Stanford, PSU, Wisconsin, ND, Clemson, Northwestern, and Many Others.

Henning is Michigan's 10th commitment in the last week, following those from NJ S Jordan Morant, CO OL Reece Attebery, CA OL Jeffrey Persi, NJ DE Aaron Lewis, NY LB William Mohan, MA WR Eamonn Dennis, IL WR AJ Henning, MD RB Blake Corum, and wrestling/PWO RB Gaige Garcia. We're pretty sure that's it for now.

That leaves Michigan with 20 commits and the #5 overall class, though their average per recruit is behind a few teams who don't have the raw numbers Michigan does yet.

I believe that his scholarship is for Wrestling and he is technically a PWO for Football.
However, if he ever gets into a game then the scholarship automatically is attributed to Football.
Apparently he is more focused on Football but his scholarship does not count against the 85 limit... yet.

I'm glad that everyone who was predicting doom and gloom for this class can now settle down. Harbaugh has assembled a team of coaches that are built to recruit.

This team is on the upswing.

Excited to have Kalel on the team.  Seems like he'll be a monster.

Is it weird that there are so few kids from Michigan?  The Don Brown, Patridge, Biff Poggi effect can definitely be felt.    Seems like Devin Bush Sr. would have pulled more Florida kids.

This is one of those areas where the staff is damned if they do and damned if they don't, at least with regard to recruiting.  People can't both insist that they lock down most of the available in state talent and at the same time complain because Michigan isn't a national recruiting force. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter as long as Michigan gets the talent that fits the program and what they want to accomplish

Excellent pickup. I have seen him play and while the competition level is not that high, he has the athleticism to be a great OLB. I dare say that he could be as good as Bush if he shows the same dedication and hard work. The raw material is there.

But the fact is that there is a lot of nuance that goes into whether or not those 4+ star kids do well...it is not as much science as many of you think. Unless and until Michigan coaching ascends they will remain a bit on the outside looking in on more of the high 4 and 5 star kids. Michigan is not yet over that hump...close but not quite there.
