Jaydon Hood, Ja'Den McBurrows Sign With Michigan Comment Count

After some waffling, two key Michigan defensive commits stuck with the Wolverines to finish up an eventful early Signing Day.

First, four-star linebacker Jaydon Hood told The Michigan Insider he'll sign early and enroll this fall after considering keeping his recruitment open to other schools:

"As soon as I called Michigan and told them I was signing, I definitely felt a sense of relief. Happiness. After today, I can just focus on the state championship game. I don't have to worry about nothing."

Shortly thereafter, Hood's teammate at Fort Lauderdale (FL) St. Thomas Aquinas, three-star cornerback Ja'Den McBurrows, told Sam Webb that he's sticking with his pledge after Miami made a late push:

“It's not a lot of impact,” McBurrows said regarding the coaching uncertainty. “People always say you don't go to school for the coaches, you go to school because you love the school. I love Michigan. Michigan always been a big part of my recruitment since they offered me, so that was always in mind.”

Michigan just announced McBurrows as a member of the class, so his Letter of Intent must be in already. Hood should follow soon. [UPDATE: Hood's LOI is in.] With most—but not all—of the 2021 recruiting action out of the way, the Wolverines' class ranks 11th nationally and second in the Big Ten.

Holding onto all of these recruits strengthens Harbaugh's hand considerably I would think. Makes a lot of the hand wringing Sam was doing seem misplaced. If we can flip Benny, and pull in one or two more, this is another top ten class.

I have to admit I didn’t think the early signing day would end up as good as it has.  If Rooks and/or Benny sign in February this will be a great class, especially with the cloud hanging over the program

It would seem if Don Brown is out the door, we are going to need more true linebackers and fewer of the hybrid viper types. Brown really only played two LB at a time and we saw a lot of transfers over the last few years because LBs couldn't get on the field. This past season, such as it was, we were really thin when McGrone went down. Makes you wonder what happens to a guy like Anthony Solomon who they really like. Can he play safety?

Dudek takes a lot of heat, he deserves huge praise for holding this class together.

Never in a thousand years did I think it would go this well, and if we get Benny to replace Somerville, that's HUGE!

It would be nice to see what Matt Campbell could do with the #11 recruiting class in the nation. Feels like he could do a lot more with them than we have the last few years.

If McGrone can get healthy (and undue his regression), he and Hood would be a fun tandem to watch with that level of athleticism.  Glad to see the wrap on the early signing period stage a solid haul!
