Any Further Info on "Top 12 CFB Team to Get Whacked"? Could it be us?
Based on what was posted here previously, about a top college football team about to be exposed for all of its cheating and rule breaking, is there any more news to report?
I have a friend who is like the FSU version of me. He is nuts for FSU football and reads WarChant regularly. He said he was listening to a Tallahassee radio guy today (one he regularly listens to - so he must have some credibility or the kid wouldn't waste his time), and he came up with 5 names he was constantly hearing / suspected. Again, this is likely just some BS, but I figured it was worth sharing.
Four of the teams are OSU, LSU, Oregon, and Alabama. The fifth team was us.
Not to say this guy has any credibility or anything, but I do love to rumor monger.
The thing about Michigan is that we've had a disproportionately large number of transfers in the last four years. A number of these players have taken shots at the program on their way out. (Including, apparently, practice time violations, which led to the Freep Jihad/NCAA fiasco). None of them have said anything about recruiting violations or extra benefits for football players.
Players talk and generally people within the program know what's going on. I have a hard time believing that something is amiss and none of the disgruntled players have blown the whistle.
I think we are safe on this one. Deep breath.
Obviously the NCAA just looked at us thoroughly, so any violations internally are unlikely.
That being said, boosters paying recruits is a possiblity I suppose, but who exactly would we be paying? I'm sure we really broke the bank for Ray Vinopal and JT Floyd.
After all of this buildup, this story better be the most monumental development in NCAA infractions this decade.
Could you imagine months of hype and whispers only to find out this was all about stretching for too long or something? That would be dumb.
This thread just got real.
We're gonna need a bigger boat
Michigan hasn't been a top 12 program since The Horror and The Oregon Debacle.
Obviously, I hope it is TSIO. TP running off at the mouth in front of the wrong person isn't an entirely unlikely scenario. The veil of secrecy could be a result of the death threats that Maurice Clarett reportedly recieved before the NCAA visited him. Clarett is a drama queen with delusions of grandeur, but death threats would partially explain the "inexplicable" behavior that landed him in jail.
If I had info that could bring TSIO down, I would definitely make sure that my safety was taken care of before releasing it. I would also make sure every "t" was crossed and every "i" was dotted.
I know it's not the most "winning" way to look at things, but TSIO getting hit with probation and vacating the last three or four victories over Michigan would be the best UM sports-related news I have gotten since Jan 1, 1998.
I hope someone pees in your butt
As my first post on these great boards, I will like to stake my reputation with the MGoCommunity with the violators being those Ducks in Oregon.
As much as I would love it to be OSU or ND, I just cannot see how it would be one of them. Likewise for Alabama, since Nick Saban knows all of the NCAA rules better then the NCAA does. So while he definitely does some shady stuff, he knows how to get away with it. And if Les Miles had any wiff of this coming to LSU, he would of jumped all over the Michigan job in a heart-beat and say how he regrets not taking it 3 years ago.
Now that just leaves us with Oregon. And with the amount of Nike money running through their athletic department it is just a matter of time before it burnt a hole in someone's pocket. Ask anyone who ever had the privledge/curve to hold onto a large amount of cash at once. It is aweful hard not to spend it, even on pointless things.
I rest my reputation with these factless, unsupported opinions. Thanks.
We will reserve MGoJudgement over your immortal soul until we have more information. Until then, make good decisions, no boob pictures or politics, and the beer's in the fridge.
Let the record show that I'm OK with the boob pictures.
I don't know about you guys, but I only come onto this site for the boobs.
80085 reasons I come to this site.

Or 8008135 if you want two orders of magnitude more reasons.

I have a feeling you'll fit right in here.
Grade school wouldn't have been the same without you.
Um, based on the criteria you gave, I think I would mention those five all in the same breath. I actually don't know which of those things are not like the other, at least based on what you mentioned. Maybe FSU because they haven't been as good lately?
People who keep saying that they hope it's OSU just sound bitter. I hate OSU but I also respect OSU, and if OSU is tarnished then The Game becomes tarnished, and that's the last thing I think Michigan wants to happen.
Nope. It isn't us, we just had out entire program investigated.
Tell the FSU fan that this is an incredibly dumb rumor.
How much of this thread have you actually read?
If we had been pulling in top-five classes under RR composed entirely of 4-and 5-star studs, you might have a tiny reason to wonder just how in heck RR was doing it. Like Steve in PA said, if you're going to spread money around to recruits, it would be insane to use it to get the players we've gotten.
As for the idea that the NCAA wouldn't have necessarily found any recruiting violations because they were looking at practice time, that requires a willing suspension of disbelief. Considering that Freep reporters, Det News reporters, AA.com reporters, ESPN reporters, Sports Illustrated reporters, disgruntled players under RR, disgruntled alumni players from Carr's era, and of course the NCAA proctologists have all been talking to literally everybody connected to the program on-the-record and off for many, many months, it's nonsensical (to me at least) to think that NOBODY would have spilled their guts about illegal recruiting practices well before now. There were simply far too many people far too eager to put RR's head up on their wall as a trophy for far too long for anything to have escaped notice this long.
I think it's all a big rumor anyhow, but if it's not I hope it's either Alabama, Southern Cal, or Auburn. I'm still convinced that Newton will end up losing his Heisman in the same manner that Bush did.
When you're being looked at as an organization, you turn over your own stones (tee-hee) to find where the bodies are - then handle what you need to from a position of knowledge. Michigan knows exactly what was going on everywhere in its FB program.
If they found evidence of something this damaging, they'd divulge it. The risk would be too great not to.
Colin also comes from Pac-10 country.
He's from Washington and spent time working the news in Portland.
If he has insiders anywhere, it is in the Pac-10.
I give this 2 fakes out of 5.
If it isn't a team from the south, I'll eat a Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme. Only 88 cents for a limited time!
Seriously, though, if Cowherd actually knows which team it was, he made a grievous mistake in subterfuge by saying it was a "top 10-12" team. This excludes any team that isn't in or around the 10th to 12th ranking, no? If he knew it was the national champions or even a top 5 team, he wouldn't have bothered to hedge.
8 | LSU | 11-2 | 1051 |
9 | Boise State | 12-1 | 1031 |
10 | Alabama | 10-3 | 961 |
11 | Nevada | 13-1 | 866 |
12 | Arkansas | 10-3 | 863 |
13 | Oklahoma State | 11-2 | 833 |
14 | Michigan State | 11-2 | 696 |
Unless he means historically, which would be pretty difficult to pin down.
I can't wait to see those rat-bastards from Nevada get their comeuppance.
Suck it, Wolfpack!
I heard it is tennessee.
They're already in trouble, this wouldn't be news. I'm hoping it's Auburn.
un-verified rumors garner this much comment? Seriously colleagues, to hell with the rumor mongers. When something is verified, address it. Otherwise, quit sweat-biting your hand towels and chill. Michigan has always been a beacon of compliance, outside of the 'practice gate' issue of past. For real, quit it, just stop it here. The more you churn, the more of a negative impact it has on those who read these threads.
What's your deal?!
Not because I have a 100% hatred for ND but because they have played shitting for a while and still pull in top recruits.
Most importantly I hope we beat ND for the night game at Michigan Stadium. So excited for that.
He grew up in Washington and did TV in Portland. He may have more inside information on an Oregon program than, say, Ohio State. Oregon currently has two commits from Texas in the 2011 class.
The rumor mongering that I have read the most is Oregon in regards to the Lache Seastrunk recruitment.
They had something on this on Wednesday (hey I take my football crack where I can get it) and they only had one guy who thought it was them. I think we would see some smoke if it was a program close to the B1G. So I'm betting Alabama where that’s a standard 5 year cycle for them or Oregon.
... and not mad b/c we would be found to have cheated... but mad b/c we cheated so POORLY.
I mean, if we were out there breaking rules to get recruits... and THE LAST FOUR YEARS IS ALL WE HAVE TO SHOW FOR IT... well, frak me, we not only sucked as a football program but apparently sucked as cheaters too.
Like, if you're gonna jump offsides, at least smack the other team's lineman onto his @$$, have something to show for it. If you cheat to get recruits so you can have Wisconsin call 31 straight running plays on you... well... back to the drawing board!
