QB Maty Mauk Talks About His Michigan Offer
After Tate Forcier left the program the new Michigan coaches were left scrambling to find a late addition to the 2011 class. They found a diamond in the rough with Texas QB Russell Bellomy, and patched the hole. While they picked up Bellomy, the Michigan coaches look for a quarter back in every class. Maty Mauk (6'2", 185 lbs/Kenton, Ohio) was the latest to receive an offer from the Wolverines. Here's what he had to say.
TOM: I guess the main question right now is if Michigan has offered you yet?
MATY: Yes, they offered me yesterday (Thursday). The offensive line coach has been the one recruiting me from Michigan.
TOM: So is that five offers now?
MATY: Six, Illinois just offered too. [Mauk's offers: Bowling Green, Michigan, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, and Missouri]
TOM: I know your brother was at Cincinnati when Brian Kelly was there, so you almost have two separate connections now with Cincinnati and Notre Dame. Are they the two that are at the top right now?
MATY: I'm wide open right now, so everyone (including Michigan) has a good chance.
TOM: Spring ball is going to start to pick up soon and you're not too far from Ann Arbor, are you going to make it up to Michigan any time soon?
MATY: Yeah, I'm going to go up to Michigan sometime in the next couple weeks.
TOM: What do you want to experience on the visit, or what about Michigan is interesting to you?
MATY: The stadium and the tradition they have is great. The offense is going to be a force, and just to meet the coaches.
TOM: Taking visits this early, is this the start of the process for you or do you want to get things done pretty quickly?
MATY: No, I'll probably take my time with everything; I think I'm going to wait. I'm hearing from the schools that have offered and Arkansas, Auburn, Louisville, Penn State, Kentucky, Iowa, LSU, and a few others nationally.

Kenton's out of conference opponent was a state finalist.
The best arguement to bolster your position you missed entirely - Max Morrison, a DI signee, made a ton of plays as a receiver that helped make Mauk look good.

Fair enough, Coldwater was a state finalist. I may have overlooked that. But completely ignoring the rest of my argument isn't exactly fair...I've seen Kenton play a few times in my day, as I went to OG. His stats are balooned. I;m just a bit hesistant on Maty Mauk.

It's good to see I have a fan, although I would work on the spelling.
Also, as I see it about the 6:30 ole Maty Mauk is getting rolled. I bet he didn't know when he came to town that Friday nights are always "Schrine Time."

If you're the real Troy Nienberg, sorry about that infield fly call. It was totally a line drive.

that this kid is a huge bust in college. That system is why his numbers are so good. That, and I don't think I saw a single black kid in that entire video.

Maybe it's just me, but his throwing style, running style -- even the way he grips the ball in one hand when he scrambles -- reminds me a lot of Tate.

His throwing motion looks NOTHING like Tate Forcier's.

THANKS for the insight. I guess YOU would know since you watch so much film.

His throwing motoin is not funky just quick.
He does remind me of Tate a bit.

I doubt you'll find a quarterback coach who would teach Mauk to throw that way. It's pretty funky. It's like if Jose Contreras learned to throw a football.

69 tds is what it is, but it seems like many (not all) come from broken plays and not on first reads. That cute little spin move to his backside will get him killed against a good defensive end.

He looks like he's mobile and has a good arm. Sign me up!
But srsly, look at 3:48 of the video and you'll see what kid we need to recruit. It was a double-whammy block!

Akron_Wolverines post. He's right, the WBL is average at best, but Kenton has played Coldwater the Maty's 3 years. Coldwater has a state championship, followed by 2 state runners-up. Not a pushover. Coldwater puts players in D1 schools regularly.
Mauk is a very good athlete, very good arm and runs with authority for his size. CAN be arrogant. Have seen him play multiple times since in our league.

That maty has played in his high school career and I believe he posses all the tools to be a great player for michigan. having said that, I must also say that he is very arrogant and hot headed. I just recently watched two game films from this past year and counted no less than six times when he started throwing elbows when tackled, and after one particular tackle he actually was on his back kicking at the defender. but he is young, and hopefully his arrogance and temper won't derail a promising career. good luck maty and go blue!

QB Maty Mauk looks like a stud, somebody said he reminded them of tate Forcier, that is so true he looks like Forcier in his days in high school. It would be nice to get there hands on this player, he is a QB that all the universitys want. Denard with two seasons left and who knows how Gardner or Bellomy will do this kid would do a great job for the maize and blue. He has played his whole high school career as the starting QB this kid is going to be something amazing in college.
