META: Site improvement: How about an ignore function?
Sorry to start a second "meta" thread in the last two days, but I want to get this in before I neg until I'm back under 100 points. Would anyone else be interested in an "ignore" function that blocks unwanted users' posts from sight? I feel like the cost for negbang has allowed some of our more timid trolls to crawl out from under their bridges, and this would be an easy way to increase my enjoyment of this board. I've seen it on other sites, it seems to work well. Just a thought.

I am going to enjoy this thread.

Get your enjoyment in for the next 6 minutes... I believe that will be the over/under.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
I will take over. I say 8.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:28 PM ^
Let me see here... Thread started at 11:54. It is 12:28. I take the over. What do I win?

anything else? I already finished the internet

Be careful, you may incur the wrath of the Old Guard of the MGoBlog community.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
Things are always tremendous in the MGoPlatinum Lounge, if that's what you're asking.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:04 PM ^
our browsers have wings
January 13th, 2011 at 12:15 PM ^
It's the MGoDilithium lounge, for all intensive purposes.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:32 PM ^
I'm not at MGoDilithium level yet.
Magnus, do share with us a tale of its greatness.

for all intensive purposes
Aboverage usage of this phrase. Well-played.

was SO 10,000 points ago for me

natch
January 13th, 2011 at 11:56 AM ^
But no, I would not like that
January 13th, 2011 at 6:57 PM ^
I wouldn’t like that either. If someone is replying to the ignored user will just the reply show up? That would confuse the hell out of me because people would be replying to phantom posts.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:58 AM ^
In my head. I should use it more often, though.
January 13th, 2011 at 11:59 AM ^
Are the MGoPosters here really that unbearable?
January 13th, 2011 at 12:29 PM ^
that I consider worthless. I sometimes or even almost always disagree with some posters, and I still value their contributions. Some people bring reason to the table, some bring knowledge, some bring wise-ass remarks, some bring it all, but some bring nothing but their misery.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
This is a sports blog, dont care how much u make or what u think of peeps.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:00 PM ^
Also, I'm sure someone can drum up a Greasemonkey script to do this. I've seen them for use with phpbb boards. I'm not sure how adaptable those scrips would be to this forum.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:01 PM ^
I think an ignore function would be bad for Brian's business. If people ignore posters they don't like, then there would be fewer arguments and, therefore, fewer page hits and fewer ad views.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:04 PM ^
what's your deal anyways? *finger jab*
January 13th, 2011 at 12:52 PM ^
U meen this is abot monny an a MiChigain edumacation. Gud thing wee got us a choke from the grass roots, oops we dint get milss /
January 13th, 2011 at 12:06 PM ^
Forced 1 comment per page would also increase page hits. It's not all about the page hits, man.
Improving user experience brings more users. Unless you think the entire Michigan fanbase is on MGoBlog already.

Unless you think the entire Michigan fanbase is on MGoBlog already.
I kinda do.
January 13th, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
At least the good part is.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:02 PM ^
I didn't realize that eyes force you to read things?
January 13th, 2011 at 12:03 PM ^
nobody would know how i feel :(

Your rage is usually palpable even when I'm not by a computer.

in your day, at some point something occurs nationally and you think "dude, GB must be going apeshit right now." cuz i am.
January 13th, 2011 at 1:03 PM ^
The MLive forum must be slow today.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:05 PM ^
I believe it exists in a less granular implementation, in that mods can hide all posts by a user. Not sure how difficult it would be to add that to normal user functionality since I've never poked around Drupal before.
It would be glorious though.
There are all kinds of other things I'd like to be able to do too.
- Hide a user until they've got > x points or been a member for > y days.
- Hide all posts that have negative points, or < -10 or something.
- Get notified when someone responds to a comment I've made. (This would make arguing SO much easier!)
Anyway, blah blah blah. I'm sure there are some improvements in mind. That's just a starter wish list for a perfect world scenario.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:10 PM ^
I can see a couple of ideas that would be useful, but in another month, we'll hit the long dark of the offseason. Trolls briefly light up that dark with their acrid, sulfer scented flames. I don't want to miss out on that.
That said, the thread creation minimum could go up and I wouldn't complain.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:26 PM ^
Get notified when someone responds to a comment I've made.
Now that, would be nice. Consider this motion seconded.
January 13th, 2011 at 12:53 PM ^
I should post more often...but if I can know if people have replied to me in my e-mail, that would be even better.
But, I do think that it would be good to be e-mailed with replies, and even, perhaps, be able to respond by e-mail. (This might even help us when site goes on lock down?)
January 13th, 2011 at 12:54 PM ^
Really?
January 13th, 2011 at 12:55 PM ^
with all those points u reply to this?
January 13th, 2011 at 1:06 PM ^
Something even more shocking: I'm replying to this!

January 13th, 2011 at 12:10 PM ^
is your George Michael?
whaaaaaaaaaa?
January 13th, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
Really....I mean, really???? We've already come to this? God, the next 8 months are going to be dreadful aren't they?
January 13th, 2011 at 12:18 PM ^
it doesn't really work. You end up with a long list of ignores and then more annoying people sign up every day and you spend all the time on the site just adding to the ignore list.
Then a guy you ignore has an epiphany and says something funny and you miss big chunks of a good thread unless you then turn off your ignore...
January 13th, 2011 at 12:32 PM ^
I thought the whole site was on ignore over the past week or so when we couldnt log on. Drove me nuts to watch the entire Hoke saga unfold without being able to render my increadibly brilliant insight to the goings on.
January 13th, 2011 at 1:00 PM ^
Best statement so far in the last week.
January 13th, 2011 at 1:08 PM ^
but who would want to skip my thrilling commentary on farts and sausage
January 13th, 2011 at 2:45 PM ^
I also have a suggestion: an alert that tells us when someone has responded to one of our comments, or does that already exist and i just can't find it?
unfortunately, i won't be able to read any responses bc i rarely go back to old threads.
