It's going around the Colorado Rivals site.

Wait, the same Kellen Jones who sang The Victors with his dad when he committed? That Kellen Jones?
I have a hard time believing that. You'll have to do better than just saying you read it somewhere on the Rivals site. I'm not seeing it there.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:48 AM ^
Yes that one, that's why I was surprised. I don't have any inside info or anything further, I was just trying to relay a rumor in the hopes someone would prove it to be untrue.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:59 AM ^
Well, we're kinda still waiting for someone credible to actually prove that it's a rumor.

January 11th, 2011 at 12:44 AM ^
Just trying to share dude.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:50 AM ^
How is that relevant?
January 11th, 2011 at 12:53 AM ^
Unfortunately Rivals is reporting that Jake Fisher will be in EL this weekend visiting the Spartans, and he's also looking at Florida and Oregon.
He had been to EL before he committed to us. What more can he learn unless he's already decided he wants out at UM.
Jake - WE HAVE NO OTHER OT COMMITS IN THIS CLASS AND NONE IN THE CLASS BEFORE YOU. Not only do we need you - you have an amazing shot at being a multi-year starter.

Along with innovation, special teams and defense. Speed and smart, gutsy play-calling. The Auburn players never exhibited that dazed look that was common for Michigan teams during the 2000's often. Lessons cemented in this observer and, hopefully, in our new coaches.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:36 AM ^
but they refuse to point out that they are only ahead of every other conference b/c they recruit 20% more players per team, per season than other conferences and they end up with the lion's share of the talent. It's like playing poker and the SEC gets five cards and everyone else gets four. Enforce the fucking rules on those bastards and lets see how it all shakes out.
Nick Saban is the leader of the douchnozzle brigade.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:38 AM ^
They won't put their cash cow into a negative light. Look at the halftime show. Meyer and Saban as the two analysts.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:43 AM ^
Is the SEC the only conference that oversigns? I know the Big Ten now allows teams to sign 27 per class.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:51 AM ^
The Big Ten does not allow signing 27 so that coaches can greyshirt kids. There are some minutiae with scholarship numbers that allow a team to count early enrollees in the previous year's class if you have enough extra room in your scholarship limits. Michigan took advantage of these rules last year to stock the roster back up to 85 for 2010.
January 11th, 2011 at 1:04 AM ^
Forget about what the official rationale for the rule is. Is there any actual penalty for a Big Ten team if it goes over 85? I don't think so.
Do we know for a fact that only SEC teams oversign? I'm curious to know how widespread this practice is.
January 11th, 2011 at 1:50 AM ^
You can't go over 85. The NCAA only allows 85 scholarships to be handed out for football -- there aren't any more to give, and that stuff gets documented closely because it falls into financial aid oversight. If you're over, you have to yank somebody's scholarship.
And it's fairly widespread in the SEC. I don't feel like looking it up, but Ole Miss and Alabama have been among the worst transgressors over the last several years.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:39 AM ^
What is the over/under on the # of years the NCAA takes to complete the "investigation" into cam?
it took them 5 years for them to hand down the punishment on USC, carroll and bush. and in that case they had 2 pissed off wannabe agents that bush and fam reneged on, countless receipts of items/expenses signed for by bush, a house that was occupied by the bush family one day, and empty the next when investigative reporters came a'knockin.
i wonder if the guys @ yahoo sports are licking their chops with this one. the only problem is, i don't see anyone talking on the auburn side, the mississippi st side, and def not the newton side.

I wish we could have complete silence about LM until something is announced. It seems like the second one side seems to get some good news, there is another damn twitter report saying the other side is moving in. I am seriously losing my mind. The last week has aged me 15 years.

Twitter should have never ever ever been invented. The world was simply better off without it.
January 11th, 2011 at 1:01 AM ^
I'm curious as to how others will interpret this conclusion based on the following set of reports.
- A source close to Miles has stated that Miles will come to Michigan if offered the job.
- Miles has met with Michigan and indications are that he will be offered the job.
- These events have led LSU to go to some lengths to keep him (based on this update).
Could it be that Miles' agent leaked to the media that Miles will go to Michigan if offered in order to get LSU to offer him a raise or other contractual considerations? It would be a great move on Miles' part if he wants to stay at LSU, considering that he's coming off his most successful season since his NC and his almamater is looking for a new coach.
January 11th, 2011 at 5:29 AM ^
I'm sure a lot of coaches do this. "The Michigan job is open? I love Michigan. Oh my current team is offering more money? I think i'll stay." Its just the name of the game. Im not sure about anyone else but the fact that Hoke seems to be the only person who genuinely wants this job is really turning me on (not literally) to him. I would almost rather have a 2nd tier coach with an upside who WANTS to be here than a top tier coach who just wants to get paid.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:40 AM ^
I wonder if the football players take joy out of the misery of LSU message board posters due to their website being crashed. Just as we take joy out of other teams losing, I hope that Woolfolk et. al. enjoy the sadness TigerDroppings fanatics are experiencing due to their site 504ing, etc.

Lol if the BR media is chasing BBQ receipts and iPhone photos, their heads are going to explode if they have to start a coaching search on January 11 or 12.
Then again, the Detroit media was chasing down the Domino's corporate jet at Willow Run tonight based on blogs' obsession with FlightAware. I don't know which is funnier.
January 11th, 2011 at 12:56 AM ^
Unlike some media markets (cough Detroit), at least they back up their speculation with eye witness accounts and and hard evidence. Now if i can just get hold of Mrs. Miles credit cards, I know how to duplicate her signature!

From a recent Times-Picayune story:
Whether or not Miles, 57, will stay or go depends on which side is doing the talking. Miles' message to his players was that out of respect to Michigan he felt obligated to meet with Brandon, but according to two LSU players, Miles' quote to them was: "I'm probably staying."
A high-ranking LSU official, speaking on the request of anonymity, said: "Don't worry. He's not leaving."
Story also has a different take on that report that LSU offered to forgo buyout--it has to do with a possible contract extension LSU would offer to Miles to get him to stay. With the extension, the buyout would be eliminated:
While LSU is working to keep Miles at the school where he has been for six years, substantially increasing his current income of $3.75 million -- one of the highest figures in college football -- isn't an option, especially given the budget crunch at the university.
Instead, LSU officials said, Miles would receive an extension on his contact, which currently runs through 2014 -- with a higher guarantee if he were to be fired before it expires and an elimination of his $1.25 million buyout should he leave on his own.

I think I might go on a sabbatical. I'm sick of conflicting stories and absolutely zero clue from those involved. I've had fun the last day or two joking around, but now that it's "serious" and both sides are reporting conflicting rumors, I think I'll just wait for an official press conference. See you guys at the end of the week.

Baton Rouge Advocate story has quote from LSU spokesman Herb Vincent:
Vincent refuted another report by ESPN’s Schad that LSU was considering lowering or eliminating the $1.25 million buyout Miles’ contract stipulates should he leave for Michigan, saying he didn’t know where that information came from.
