This day will be remembered for a long time

Submitted by Communist Football on

This is the day an embattled program finally turned a corner and became bowl eligible.

This is the day an embattled coach gained the time, in career longevity, to see his players and his system grow into a perennial powerhouse.

This is the day an embattled defense showed that, when the game was on the line, they could deliver Michigan a victory.

In 2020, when we are looking back on the Decade of RR, a decade in which championships and trophies will return to Michigan, we will remember that this is the day that made it possible.

Remember when old fuddy duddies said that we know you've suffered, but tough it out...Michigan Football will create memories for you too? Well this one is for you. (And I hope you're not reading this because you're too busy going out and getting drunk).

I am a student. I am on North Campus trying to motivate myself to do work.   Not quite the same as going to the Jug after this game, but then again I'm a PhD student, so I guess I'm not a normal person, anyways (read: nerd).

I think given some time and a little more talent on both sides of the ball, plus a new d coordinator, this team could go far in the BCS over the next several seasons.  These kids are going to be very experienced upper classman.   With better recruits added, I think RR gets a lot of wins and fans will forget the rocky start.  GO BLUE!

I had to wake up at 6AM to watch this game, but it was worth a couple of hours worth of lost sleep.  I'll have to give it a couple of days to figure out where to place this game, but I imagine that it will rank quite high.

Ugh, I feel bad that I didn't go to this game now (this or Wisconsin and that game works like 500 times better than this game).  Gah!  O well, I wouldn't have been able to go anyway because of certain incidents since making the decision.

Despite that, I think I'll remember this game for a long, long time.  Just like everybody else, I feel like this game was a huge turning point.

So glad I was able to be there with my dad today. I almost didn't go, but then I decided what the hell? It was such an amazing game. I am so proud of how the team kept fighting and never let the turnovers discourage them. Just so awesome. I really hope that this builds some momentum for next weeks game. I am just so excited for all the players and for Coach Rod. I taped the game and this is definitely going to be saved in my collection with Braylonfest  and the 2006 ND game. What an amazing day. GO BLUE!!

After last week, "I" needed to SEE this team strap it up and refuse to lose...and they did it!  This is a great win, they are off the snide and moving forward, NOT in the shadow of 2009, but in accordance to their own destiny.  This week, they became overcomers!  The offensive made mistakes, but the defense kept coming and coming and coming.  It was wholly appropriate the DEFENSE took us over the top!  Great win, a classic!  See ya in West Lafayette!!

I am so happy for the team and the coaches (even GERG). The defense stepped up today. Say what you want, but they made some key stops, especially after some of those early turnovers.

This was the first UM game I've watched on DVR. By the time the third overtime rolled around, I was just ending regulation, and Mrs. Crime Reporter told me I should put it on live (she was doing live checks in the other bedroom, but never spoiled it for me). Glad I saw the end in its glory.

Go Blue.

What a great game today. Roundtree sets a record, and this was, according to ESPN, the highest scoring game in Big 10 history, as well as the highest scoring game this season.

What's really funny, to me anyway, is that this isn't even the most points Michigan has ever scored against Illinois.  Also, this game could end up being played on ESPN Classic almost as much as the old BYU Holiday Bowls used to.  This game does have everything ESPN likes in their "classic" games: plenty of lead changes, lots of points, and a thrilling, overtime finish.

As for those "two points," it's about time Michigan was the team that got a decent break or two.  I have been really tired of watching teams take advantage of great breaks, play the game of their lives, and celebrating at Michigan's expense.  I was very happy to see Michigan do the celebrating for a change.

If Michigan takes care of business against Purdue next week, there might even be an environment of optimism in Ann Arbor going into the last two games.  That would also be a welcome change.

I didn't mock any of the Illni fans in the Stadium. I felt badger their players a little (if not the Zooker). Because I know how we would have felt if we lost it. It was truly one of those games that "no one deserved to lose". I'm just glad it was them and not us.

We all had an intense experience today that will stay with us a long time. I think its also going to have a big impact on the players. While in some ways a win is a win, some wins play an extra part in the bigger picture.  Despite plenty of mistakes, these young men had the experince of coming back over and over again, reaching down deep, finding layers of GRIT that they did not know they had.  To have it pay off with such an incredibly satisfying win will, I think, leave them with a psychological edge and a mentality that can help them win many more games in the future.

The first UM game I went to was against Illinois back in like 1988.  I remember that they won, that Leroy Hoard was awesome, and that I was hooked for life.

Still hooked.  This wasn't the best UM game I've seen but I was so so happy.  It really means a lot for this season.  NOW BEAT PURDUE!  and then we can talk about pulling some upsets.
