Relax. Other sports are allowed to happen
September 12th, 2010 at 9:48 AM ^
right now, in September, they are not relevant.

Women's tennis? There's a reason I NEVER watch that show, utter waste of time.
September 12th, 2010 at 10:13 AM ^
Yeah, women's sports are sure a joke, right?
September 12th, 2010 at 10:44 AM ^
whoah...take it easy. I don't think he was intending on saying women sports are irrelevant, but in the big picture, Football is most of the pie where womens (and mens for that matter) tennis is but crumbs...And I think he is right, in terms of money and popularity
September 12th, 2010 at 10:53 AM ^
I think you're being generous. He clearly said that the show was a "waste of time," based solely on the fact that one reporter had the gall to mention a tremendous accomplishment in women's tennis rather than joining the (well-deserved) national Denard Robinson tongue bath. No duh that football is the most popular sport in the country - doesn't mean that no one can mention great accomplishments in other sports.

point noted

No, you're wrong. I think Sports Reporters is always a waste of time and not only for what they choose to focus on, but also their commentary on said topics.
I don't think women's sports are a joke, but I would have given more validity to their assessment if Clijsters would have defeated one of the Williams sisters or perhaps involved in a really exciting game (6-2, 6-1 is lame no matter the gender). I apologize if my heart didnt skip a beat when I was told she defeated Vera Zvonarev (who? exactly)...

Venus, in the semis. And Serena last year in the final.
September 12th, 2010 at 9:50 AM ^
Did she have 503 yards yesterday?
September 12th, 2010 at 10:12 AM ^
No, but she actually won a title rather than a single game. Her third, in fact.
As another poster said, other sports are allowed to happen. This acting aggrieved at nonexistent slights is the type of thing I expect from Ohio State fans.
September 12th, 2010 at 10:57 AM ^
No, she won a single match yesterday, and it's not like she pitched a shut-out.
The comment was ridiculous.
And yes, women's sports are a waste of time.
September 12th, 2010 at 11:12 AM ^
...if you are ever have a daughter.
September 12th, 2010 at 11:12 AM ^
No, she won a single match yesterday, and it's not like she pitched a shut-out.
She won the U.S. Open final, 6-2, 6-1, in 59 minutes. You don't know what you're talking about.
September 12th, 2010 at 3:04 PM ^
6-2, 6-1 isn't any type of record. If it was 6-0, 6-0 then you might have something.

You should heed Abraham Lincoln's advice:
"It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt."

Congrats to her winning, especially since she came out of retirment after having a baby. In the world of women's tennis, it's an amazing feat to win after what she's been through.

a Spartan?
September 12th, 2010 at 12:25 PM ^
This was the first thing i thought of when i read her comment.
September 12th, 2010 at 10:16 AM ^
Beating Notre Dame, AT Notre Dame, with 502 yards of total offense, in your 2nd start....
... far more impressive (to me) than any stupid women's tennis title.
Jemele Hill is like the Ellen DeGeneres of sports reporters, but less funny.
September 12th, 2010 at 10:30 AM ^
But tuned out a few years ago when I got tired of these guys regurgitating conventional wisdom. I'd much rather have a UFR or some fact based analysis than some drive by opinions.
September 12th, 2010 at 10:31 AM ^
Jemele Hill grinded her axe pretty hard against Rich Rod - to the point I may or may not have sent her a profanity-laden, drunken email.
She sucks. And is a Spartan. So f*** her.
September 12th, 2010 at 11:11 AM ^
that's like Lou Holtz saying the Notre Dame defense played great yesterday because they only gave up 50 yards to the rest of the team.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions. Mine is that Denard had the best performance of anyone on Saturday.
