Positions in a 3-3-5 Defense?
I've watched Boise State and TCU use the 3-3-5 effectively in their conferences and I really do love the defense. The question I have is what are the positions in a 3-3-5 Defense?
I know its 3 down lineman and 3 linebackers but do we run two cornerbacks and 3 safeties or 3 cornerbacks and two safeties. I've seen Boise run a 3-3-5 with 3 cornerbacks and it was pretty crazy to see everyone moving like they were.
Positions on the field anyone?

3 defensive linemen, 3 linebackers, 2 corners, 3 safeties.

There are those Wild West positions like "spur", "bandit", "cowpoke" and "hombre".
Unless they've renamed them after the Village People or Kevin Bacon film roles already.

TCU Uses a 4-2-5

However, I think a 3-3-5 can be turned into a 4-2-5 depending on how a team lines up. Craig Roh will be the "4" I think in a 4-2-5 which I think Michigan will use a lot as well.

What's wrong with the fast dude Magnus owns? Furthermore, you own a fast dude Magnus? This sounds illegal and I don't like it one bit.

The basics of this defense will give Mr. Roh all kinds of ways to murder the opposition. "Stacking" our defense will give Ezeh the reigns to do what he does and Mouton the ability to play in space and hits the holes. I'm just curious to see who will fill the safety spots. Only time will tell.
Watching the Spring Game I saw Craig Roh put his hand in the dirt alot too, fulfilling Magnus' prophesy that it would in fact be a 4-2-5ish look some of the time.
We saw this last year also and GERG has explained quite exhaustively that the 3-3-5 is just the BASE look.

show up at the back end. None of the guys at the spring game playing deep got a hand on a ball, or challenged the deep recievers. I am happy to have tons of frosh coming in this fall, and I hope one of them wins the deep safety spot. I know that inexperience at the deep safety can lead to giving up big plays, but our defense does that already. My hope is that half of the time we can get a batted ball, or an INT. I am really hoping that Demar makes it in for us this year.

I'm hoping that this form of defense makes life simpler for the FS/DS because of all the mental errors last year, less decision-making means less mistakes.

You probably don't want a true freshman starting at deep safety. Cornerback, it's a little easier to have one there. Not deep safety, especially if Kovacs plays deep in cover two at times as well.
