Hello: Kyle Grady (PWO)

Submitted by Chicken22 on

Kyle Grady is a QB from California in the 2018 recruiting class. There was talk of Michigan taking two QBs in this class, so I wonder if Michigan will still try and get another one, to go along with Joe Milton, now that Grady is commited.

We may lose one of Peters/McCaffrey somewhere in 2018-19, and that would leave us with only two viable guys, even assuming that Milton will be good.

In 2019, or even spring of 2018, Peters may see the writing on the wall that he is never going to start here, and decide to seek other opportunities. If Peters is locked in as the starter for 2019 and 2020, McCaffrey may decide he doesn't want to ride the bench until his 5th year. Either way, there's a good possibility that one of them will not play out his eligibility here. We should be prepared.

Good point. I was saying that as soon as we got McCaffrey. Though some people were acting like they couldn't comprehend the notion and that it wasn't really likely to happen. If your program starts bringing in multiple highly-regarded QBs, you'll probably start having some QB transfers. The QB position can only really be played by one person. Many top QB recruits don't want to waste their eligibility just sitting behind another QB for years, especially if they truly believe they're good enough to have a pro career at playing QB. If Speight wants to come back another year and Harbaugh lets him, then the odds really increase that someone will be transferring between McCaffrey and Peters.

Kid has the best QB pocket presence I've ever seen from a high school QB... remarkable he's so lowly rated, his intelligence shows dramatically on the field. Tip of the hat to the Harbaugh staff for finding this one, looks like a proper MI QB to me.

I don't understand the Joe Milton thing. He has an incredibly strong arm but looks very rough and unnatural throwing it (sorta the opposite of Peters, Harbaugh's first handpicked QB at Michigan). It feels like Shane Morris all over again. I'm sure Harbaugh can teach him some things but I'm just surprised he's the guy at the top of Harbaugh's list when there are many-polished 2018 options available.

The difference in Milton vs other more polished 2018 options is their potential. Milton is ranked almost entirely on his extremely high potential. While other 2018 options may have higher floors right now, their ceiling isn't as high as Mitlon's. If you look at multiple recruiting classes, having Milton right now makes sense since both Peters and McCaffrey are polished recruits that can step in to the game quickly. This would give Harbaugh and staff more time to develop Milton and get the most out of his game.

an athletic scholarship because of other rewards and resources that have been well-earned. Sometimes a kid is a QB because at his H.S. he was just obviously the best athlete. That would certainly fit the Harbaugh recruit profile. Wonder what he'll end up playing for us. Welcome, Kyle!

I'm sure that will be his first lesson, to stand tall behind center to get a pre-snap read on the defense. I know he is 6'3" tall, he needs to use that to his advantage.
