OT: Holy crap, it's windy outside!

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on

There are currently 350K customers without power in SE Michigan.  Amazingly, I'm not one of them, although my son's school has no power.  Apparently the kids are having a great time "learning" without power.  Hopefully LSA is working overtime to get everything sorted out.

Any damage in your neighborhood?  Are you posting in the dark from your phone that's about to die?

I biked to work today going east-to-west, into the wind.

I just hope the wind holds until I bike home, and I can put my feet up and coast all the way.

We are one of the powerless. I live near Byron Center, just south of Grand Rapids. Early estimates say our power will be restored by 1:00 pm tomorrow. Not happy!

The gusts in GR are pretty strong, spotty outages across the city, including my buddy who has the day off, and is at home. He's pretty pissed, but also a Sparty, so let's laugh at him!!

look at the barometric pressure across north America:

This is one of the lowest continental atmospheric pressures ever recorded at 964 mB, and it has already spawned severe weather including a tornado outbreak across the lower midwest on Monday. The record is from October 2010 in Minnesota (955 mB), which also spawned a huge tornado event.

I Had to clean up two messes. First, both Waste Management bins were blown over, then my dogs were literally scared shitless of going outside, so they went in the living room. My daily commute from GR to Lansing was loads of fun too. Saw a few uprooted trees along 96.

Saw 2 semi-trucks overturned on 23 within about 7 miles of each other.   Luckily for me, they were both on the southbound lanes and i was going north.

For those wondering about the hospital, the 40 kV feed from us went down and they are working on it.

It's a world of hurt in my neck of the woods right now - about 400,000 out (less false positives from the automated meters experiencing momentary outages) and slowly increasing.

If you have questions, hit me up on Twitter, although I don't know when I'll have answers.

Currently 72 and sunny near the beach.  5mph onshore breeze that will blow an unattended sheet of paper right off a table, so be careful out there today folks.
