The Man Down T…

what you've just said... is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

God help you! Because as usual I posted this in response to the idiot responses based on the word: HATE
However, if you think based on your response that I; need or give a flying you know what about points, then you yourself would be recommended for a lobotomy. I am aware that people have convictions about certain things in life but I write for the fun of it and have and will continue to get paid for writing the rest of my life. Stay away from GOD and politics it's a sports blog, lil big fella behind the computer.
Sincerely yours,

Look lil big dude this is a sports blog. I have nothing else to say because you're nobody to me or anyone else that I know. Notice that I said that I have and will continue. That's a statement. Cannot be argued because it's truth. Now I hope Grand Valley likes your production and that you have a long productive life.

I also posted, I AGREE with you. Maybe I did reply to the wrong post, however for the last time I agree with YOUR assessment of Caldwell. Lastly, I was referring to those that used the word hate, dislike, bla, bla, bla. I think Caldwell did an ok job. But not nearly as bad as some of the other posters. Especially those that based it upon his demeanor.

As I recall, Bob Quinn did say before the 2016-17 season even began - because he was asked repeatedly - that getting to the playoffs (means regardless apparently) was not a prerequisite for Caldwell keeping his position. To me, that sort of implied that getting to the playoffs, however it happened, meant that in all likelihood we were stuck with him for at least another season. In that respect, this is hardly shocking news, and while I am not a Caldwell fan, by Lions standards he is succeeding where others have not (take that for what you will, of course - I find the man grating).

Hate him. But the Lions in the bottom third of the league rankings in pretty much every category, and only middling in pass yards. We go 3 and out more than anyone in the league. But we don't turn the ball over and don't take penalties.

Those stats tell you we are not good personnel-wise. Making the playoffs with that personnel is a reflection of quality coaching*. So why not give him 1 more year? And who cares if you win or lose the playoff game when making it there is an accomplishment that most thought was impossible to begin with?

This team will not go anywhere until the roster is fixed. 1st year returns for Quinn are good. Once the roster is at a place where we can win, and Caldwell shows he can't win with it, then we can move on. Why upset the applecart before then?

*It is also a reflection of the weak schedule. Credit to the coordinators as well, but Caldwell is in charge of the staff so....

Exactly. This roster is not good and the Lions had to catch several breaks to make the playoffs. When their luck reverts next season and they go 6-10 next season but with more talent, then we can fire Caldwell and get the jump on hiring our next coach.

Besides, who do Lions fans even want coaching this team? Patricia? McDaniels? I don't think either of those guys are slam-dunk hires. This offseason's coaching pool isn't nearly as strong as last year's (with Gase, Mularkey, Koetter, McAdoo, and Pederson all achieving varying degrees of success in their first year).

Total agreement. Josh Freaking McDaniels is being shopped as the replacement. He had to run back to Belichick just to keep a job in this league. That's a joke.

Now, John Harbaugh becomes available, and I think the Lions would go back on their word in an instant. Quinn afraid to lose Teryl Austin? Easy, go back on your word. It's not like saying "We are retaining Caldwell for the 2017 Season" is a contract signed in blood. Teams say one thing and do the next a week later all the time.

No, the Lions masking the playoffs is more a product of the NFC sucking this year. I'm tired of people saying they overcome injuries and crap like that. Every team has injuries. This is just a crappy team that got really lucky in 8 of their wins. They probably should be no better than 2-14 this season, but Stafford stole quite a few games for them.

I think the fact that Collinsworth and Michaels made fun of the fact that Caldwell doesn't like to use his challenges because he likes to go into halftime with all of his first half time outs tells you exactly what kind of joke he is around the league.

You're right! Our 2-14 team made the playoffs at 9-7. That's on the coaching staff.

And sure, the NFC sucked. But it's not like 7-9 Seattle making the playoffs 2010. 9-7 is a legit record that makes the playoffs about half the time nowadays.

So a coach can only be good if he makes the playoffs when the competition is up to a certain standard?  What standard would that be, exactly?  NFC teams had 125 wins this year and AFC teams had 129, so how much really does the NFC suck?  And let's point out too that Caldwell made the playoffs as a wild card despite being in the division that had to play the conference's best.  The NFC South and NFC West (presumably, that's where you think the suck is located) had each other as scheduling partners and couldn't produce a single wild card team.

Man you can't make sense out of this lunacy. Some people will argue with themselves. The percentage of challenges is so low that Mike Pereira is thinking about donating his whole salary to LUNACY for those who think that any coach on the planet could have done any better with, this lion roster. In the words of our fellow poster coldwater,"make America great again!!!"

They're a more disciplined team that I ever remember them being. This was my main hope when they hired Caldwell. If they could just be more disciplined, protect the football, and not constantly take stupid penalties they could win games they shouldn't win. I can't believe it's actualluy happened. Now Quinn just needs to rebuild the roster and get some more talent on the field.

No good candidates out there anyways.  Might as well roll with Caldwell to a 4-12 season next year and then fire him.  Maybe there will be some higher quality candidates out there a year from now.

Why did we ever fire Wayne Fontes?  Greatest Lions coach in my lifetime.

Caldwell should be the fricken COY. This was a 6 or 7 win team if everything went perfect. But it wasnt even close to perfect. They were missing their only decent RB all year, their only decent LB for all but a couple games, their only decent CB for a large chunk, lost Calvin and started 2 and sometimes three rookies on the OL.

WTF do you guys want? This team was held together by spit and string and thats all due to Caldwell. Hes not my choice to lead us to a SB but without a clear upgrade the staus quo is where its at.

Uncle Leo the unreasonable Lions haters are the absolute worst kind of fans.

guy to listen to but I can't argue with his results.  He won the games he was supposed to win.  The front office seems to actually have a clue for the first time in decades, if not ever.  Their first draft was productive as I expect the next one to be.  They are going in the right direction.

like he's not completely sure where—or even who—he is.

However, unless there is a sure home run alternative available right now, it doesn't make sense to me to get rid of him now.

The Lions aren't talentless, but they don't have a great roster either and little depth.  They need a couple more drafts like this last one to have a good foundation.  Quinn might think hiring a coach now isn't going to be enough to put them over the top.

I don't think that collapse of having a 2 game lead in the division with 3 to go and losing out is all on Caldwell.  We got out talented the last 3, imo.

Martha really like Caldwell.  It probably makes sense to retain him for now.

He is the least likable Detroit pro head coach I've ever seen, but he has made the playoffs 2 out of 3 years. That earns him another year. Imagine if he were fired. The Black Coaches Association would go nuts.

Your argument is baseless like your life. He's been coaching at the highest level of coaching whereas I'm sure with your belittling little tirade I'm sure you're at your highest level behind your tablet comp android or whatever your choice of technology you can afford. Lol

That will make the playoffs in 2017. The lions are the best thing Detroit has going for it. Let that settle in for a minute. I'm not the biggest Caldwell fan either, but for him to even make the Lions competitive, he can't be that bad. But he won't probably take them to the next level. So worry about that when in position to do so. I'm fine with this extension.

I actually see a bit of a comparison between Michigan and the Lions, in that the starters, when they're all healthy, can compete with anyone else.  The problem for both teams this year has been depth.

There's no conicidence that the Lions went on their skid when Stafford jacked his finger.  That's not Caldwell's fault.

I'm more worried about what will happen when Austin leaves.  I'm shocked he wasn't hired as a HC either of the last two years, but I don't see him not getting a job this year.  He has been amazing for Detroit, and he'll be hard to replace.

I think the Lions are winning in spite of Caldwell because of Austin and Cooter, but this isn't Michigan we're talking about where losing 3 of the last 4 is disappointing. The fact they kept winning and made the playoffs this year with how many injuries was nothing short of amazing so they should stick with what works at least for next year.

Jim Caldwell should thank the Washington Redskins. The Lions managed to back into the playoffs because Washington also folded down the stretch. The Giants weren't even trying that hard and still beat Washington. If Cousins doesn't "Sparty No"... the Lions would've took more crictism for collapsing. People will forgive and overlook stuff, once the Lions still made the playoffs. It would've been difficult to fire Caldwell this season.
