2016 football record prediction

Submitted by Ball Hawk on
We had a good regular season this year! We had some uncertainties before the season that could've turned ugly for us. We beat MSU and we almost pulled off a win over OSU. Im very proud of how hard this team has worked. It's easy to start expecting more and more as the season goes on. Thankfully Harbaugh gave us those hopes. We are still in a transition of developing players and bringing in new players to learn the system. I wanted to show some of you how far this team has come from most of these predictions that were made at the beginning of the season. Things change of course but by the end of the season, it seems that its never good enough for a lot of you. Take a look at what some of these predictions were. 3 things that were uncertain. 1. QB situation 2. Defensive coach 3. Linebacker development. Be happy how far we have come. We will beat OSU with Harbaugh. http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/season-prediction-thread Edit- Unfortunately I cannot find the 2016 season predictions thread. If someone can find it, please post it in the comments or have a mod post it.

Just curious, but what is it about Florida that you have them winning? Is it their qb improvement they've shown over the past two years? That incredible defense that got hosed by Arkansas? The fact that they look the exact same as they did when the 2015 season started leaves me unafraid.

Veteran QB. new lineman. Lots of new defensive guys. But our talent is getting better and better. I'll say 10-2. I think we beat Osu at home. we lose a road game. plus a game we shouldn't cause of youth.

I had thought originally that the o line would be worse. Now I think it might be okay, with a higher upside by the end of the season, with greatness possible in 3 years.

I think the years of uncertainty and not quite good coaching for these seniors first few years was a killer.

Disappointment for me this season.. I am seriously unimpressed by our oline improvement. After the Florida game last year I had high hopes... then any team that had a pulse defensively we couldn't run on... It lost us the osu and Iowa game. We intercepted the ball with 1.26 left at Iowa and we can't get a first down running.. that was completely pathetic to me and the coaches can't blame anyone but themselves

wow....that's a glaring fail. Granted, the effect of that interception by Stribling(?) was a punt by Iowa; nonetheless, 1 first down should be achievable. I guess you can credit Iowa for a great stop, but the events that unfold thereafter were nothing short of a disaster.

I had 11-1 with a loss to OSU so yes I consider it a failure because I thought the schedule is cupcake and B1G is a bad conference(jury still out on Wisconsin and PSU whom I don't think is a good team)

A lot of the down to down football things that could have gone wrong like QB play, LB play, Don Brown's performance against the spread, Allen's FG kicking after that little blip, secondary play w/o Clark etc went well. We turned out to be a really good football team.

And that's why a lot of the little random events during games that went wrong and resulted in a record that, yes, did underperform the considerable experienced talent that we do have. We are an 11-1 caliber team-like OSU, Clemson, and UW- except that have a 10-2 record and they are all 11-1. People saying oh, well the OL wasn't that talented this year are right. But if the premise is that future OLs will be better but everything else stays the same, that's wrong. We probably have a better OL in 2-3 years. We probably won't have all talented senior playmakers at WR/RB/TE and a defense like this comes along once a decade or so even at M. You can say it exceeded your initial expectations and don't worry be happy. But when I look at us as #2 in fancystats, remember that we were #2 and 9-0 a month ago and now consider that we won't make a 5 team playoff that is a disappointing final outcome. Which...is pretty much how Michigan football goes for most of the 30 years I've been watching and really much of the last 70 years.

I suspect the younger types who only remember the RichRod/Hoke types are more positive on this season many times before. But hey, at least we're back to our pre-RichRod/Hoke status of being the pre-2004 Boston Red Sox instead of the pre-2016 Chicago Cubs.

I predicted 10-2 or 11-1. Let my hopes get up for a 12-0 run once I saw MSU was not garbage and once we beat Wisconsin. Losing both games on the last play of the game was tough. However, somebody once said: First you lose by a lot; then you lose by a little; then you win by a little; then you win by a lot. Our trajectory is going in the right direction. I expect a dip in 2017 due to the youth. Maybe not a huge dip in the record but perhaps in the nature of the games. So instead of a 10-2 with blowouts and the two losses being on last second plays, we go 9-3 or maybe even 10-2 but the loses are more convincing. The incoming talent will somewhat mitigate the outgoing seniority.
