Beilein says UM not interested in the CBI
Per Mike Rothstein:
Beilein just added about the CBI: "We do not have an interest in the CBI this particular year."

praise the fucking lord!!!
you mean ron jeremy?
I have to say that's kind of dumb on his part if you ask me. This team obviously has a lot of work to do, and it seems like playing games is the way to do it. I don't think we're really in a position to be high and mighty about the opportunity to play games.
This is as short-sighted as declining a minor bowl game by thinking you're too good for it. A bowl games means another 3-4 weeks of practice, and by playing in even just the CBI, you're going to give your team a few more weeks of practice for next season, just like the teams in the NIT and the NCAAs. Turning down the CBI is starting your preparations for next season at a competitive disadvantage.
This is an inconsistent team that has lost its confidence. How is playing in the CBI going to help? Do you really think that they will stay consistent enough to win it? Remember, this is a team that lost to Indiana, Penn State, twice to NW, needed OT to win at Iowa, ect. This team needs time away from games to build confidence back, not losing in the 2nd round to S. Florida.
Not sure I understand an inconsistent team passing on an opportunity to play.
These guys are mentally shot. At this point, they need a fresh start: anything else is just reinforcing the failure.
But they sure didn't look to be mentally shot when they beat Minnesota by 28 the other night.
I guess if Beilein believes it would do more harm than good to play, then so be it. But when I played basketball, I always wanted one more game. Granted, I didn't play at the college level, and my team never got dismantled on national television, but still.
I don't know if Michigan Basketball really has the position right now to say we're too good for anything.
Yeah, it's a little lame as far as postseason tournaments go, it's not an ideal situation, and it's fodder for the RCMB types. If invited, though, don't know how extra games are a negative.
with a 80 man roster means more than practices with a 15 man roster. The reason those extra practices are so valuable in football is because you can take a closer look and give more reps to the youngsters who might have been overlooked in the regular season. It's not the same with basketball. This season just needs to be over anyway.
I don't disagree with the practice issue, but man, I paid good money for a season ticket to this season, I invested emotionally in it, and to quit when there's a chance to keep playing and potentially win something (as small as it may be) is lame.
Besides, we could run Novak at the 2 exclusively and get Vogrich some badly needed minutes, so at least we could be trying something.
for wanting more, and there are some things that could be worked on, but I guess I'm at the point where I don't see anything positive coming from this team. More games = more frustration. I don't usually have that kind of a negative attitude, but it's been a tough year.
...to practice shooting. Who could argue they need to do that?
Queme Los Barcos....
Like by "We do not have an interest in the CBI this particular year." he means we are interested in playing into the NIT by winning 3 tourney games, or we have interest in playing into the NCAA by winning the conference tourney.
Have we put together 3 consecutive quality games yet this year?
Congressional Board of Inquiry? Colloquium of Bosnian Intellectuals? Collection of Blithering Idiots?
Canadian Bacon Ingestion
Cold Beer Index?
Our shooting is as cold as the Rockies (according to the CBI).
The uni's turn blue when your game is as cold as the Rockies!
Cannot get into Bracket Invitational
It doesn't matter. We are going to win the Big 10 tournament and go to the NCAA tournament. Think positive people.
part of the don't like this move crowd.
Anything that gets the team extra games and practice is a good move in my book.
I think it is a good opportunity to get another banner in Crisler. I say we play!
You owe it to guys like Sims to let him play as many games as possible, no matter what tournament it happens to be in. He has played his heart out for this team for 4 years and 2 coaches, and never once started a fight in practice, mouthed off to the media, or in any way failed to represent the University with class and dignity. If allowing him to play even one more game in the Maize and Blue means you have to accept a bid to the CBI, so be it.
to the team before making this comment. I doubt he would take it away if the players wanted it.

This looks like a university decision, not a team decision. Does that change your opinion at all?
Perhaps the tune from Beilein about the CBI will change if/when we officially are eliminated from the NCAA/NIT discussion.
Hypothetically, I think this decision should come down to the players and coach, and I have no idea what they think about it.
If it were up to me, we would absolutely participate. As other people have mentioned, it's additional practice time, gives us an opportunity for another banner (regardless of how mock-able it is), allows Sims, Gibson, and Wright to potentially go out on a more positive note, and possibly allows us to see what our team could potentially look like next year (Novak and Douglass at wing instead of 4 and 1, respectively).
I understand the potential negative of our team lacking in confidence and entering another tournament simply prolonging the pain, but I don't think this team is as confidence-shot and war-worn as is speculated - those types of teams don't completely dominate bubble-worthy teams (Minnesota).
I don't know how much better this team is going to get from playing poor-mediocre teams at best. I played basketball and you will not get better by playing inferior competition, not to mention our team will look a bit different next year.
We are a "poor-mediocre" team. Who could we play that is that much inferior?
I'd be interested to see how the subject was brought up. Part of his job as coach is to keep his players' heads up and despite yesterday's disaster I am sure he is still pushing this team to go out and win the B10 tournament. Saying you are interested in the CBI would come off as deflating to me if I was a player.
Until the B10 is over, it's early to embrace consolation prizes. Maybe it'll be a different story after everything is done shaking out.
I think every team just needs to take a break from basketball and clear their head. These guys should not be shooting this bad.
I think Harris and Novak will always be inconsistent jumpshooters. They have a lot of moving parts on their shots. Douglass I have no explanation for. At least on TV, he looks like he has basically textbook form. He ought to be making a lot more shots on a regular basis. His problem might just be mental.
Well to turn do an offer you have to be invited first.
But hey next year is looking bright uncle stu is coming back and not declaring for the draft!
