OT: Last Chance U released on Netflix
Last Chance U is a new show released on Netflix on July 29th. Seems like it will be a good watch to get us through until football season starts.
"Last Chance U" follows a group of young men training to become the future stars of the NFL. Based at East Mississippi Community College (EMCC), "Last Chance U" takes us on a journey to understand the real men of the gridiron at one of the most successful, but least known athletic programs. Each player has incredible talent and drive to be the best, but each face their own unique struggles both on and off the field. As their season takes an unexpected turn, the methods of this unconventional team are deeply called into question. With much to lose, they are constantly reminded of the stakes.
Here's a link to an article that discusses the documentary:
FWIW, that's where Brian Cole will be playing football this fall.
It's a real bummer to me that he couldn't keep it together.
I thought he went to Kentucky. What happened?
I'm not sure of the details, but he couldn't get things together to transfer to Kentucky just yet. I'm wondering if his academics fell off once he got in trouble at U of M, so now he has to spend some time recovering academically. That's my speculation.
But he is supposed to transfer to Kentucky once he's finished at EMCC.
I did the exact same thing

You really feel the desperation of these kids at the same time that you shake your head at their inability to make good choices. As you get to know them, and get to know the adults around them, it becomes less and less surprising how ill – equipped they are for school and for life. The fine line between providing opportunities to athletes vs. raw exploitation of them like so much cattle being moved through the factory farm is fascinating to think about as you see their stories unfold.
It's riveting. Watch it.

Not joking.

And violence and poor education is certainly a factor and higher than other places around the country....but it's a fact that illiteracy is most prevalent in the deep south...I don't know why you want to sugar coat it.

Lol you seem like more of a tennis person than a football person

Watched a couple episodes. Seems like a pretty good show.
Binge watched this (as well as Stranger Things) this weekend. It is VERY good.
You can't help but root for Ronald Ollie and you're almost personally affected when the kids make bad choices over and over again.
It really shows you how big of factors self-motivation and perserverance are in your success or failure in life.
great show! the episode 5 fetty wap dance off scene might be the best thing on netflix.
for the reminder. Watched episode 1 and I'm already hooked. Looks like it can compete with Hoop Dreams. So far so excellent.
the show actually did remind me of hoop dreams a little bit. maybe not quite as concentrated on 2 people but still incredibly entertaining and gritty.
The internet seems to be ushering in a golden age for TV series...alot better and more creative than what we've been served on broadcast networks.
All I can say is...Wow. Finished watching this last night and I was blown away by the educational aspect of the school. It seemed more like these kids were enrolled in a low level high school than anything resembling higher education.
I will definitely be checking out Auburn this year to see if Franklin ends up starting or not.
