Friday Posbang - Independence Day Weekend

Submitted by xtramelanin on

Mates,

Can't help it, summer is here and so is the long weekend of great summer weather.   It is also our country's 240 anniversary on Monday - God bless the incredibly brave men and women who brought this country into being.

If you are up north you should come see the Blue Angels over in Traverse City:

I wonder how big of a federal offense it would be if we snuck on base and ever so slightly changed their paint job to winged helmet style?

I hope you will be with family and friends this weekend, outside enjoying our great state.

Whose got it better than us?

Despite all the problems we have here in the USA, it is still the best place on Earth. This time of year, I always think of the absolute courage the founding fathers displayed, and the brilliance of the structure of our republic.

On a slightly related note, any thoughts on how jacked up for the 4th Harbaugh gets? I'd love to see it.

Family has been on vacation up north for 2 weeks.  I'm stuck in Ohio, and can't help but seem to fall further and further behind at work.  Oh, and I'll be working all weekend.  FML.

Staying home this weekend but am headed to the lake after work today with the wife and kids.  Then, in one week from today, my oldest and I are headed on a week long journey to the great state of Michigan!  Trailering the boat all the way for lots of fun days of fishing and boating and seeing the fam.  My fun week starts a week late, but it'll be great no matter.

in the rotunda at the National Archives. You can really only make out "We the People," but still awesome. Wishing a happy 4th to each of you, may your weekend be filled with family, fun, and fireworks (apologies to Stacy Corosi)!

I'm going to watch the Blue Angels practice this afternoon at 3 PM. First show back for them after they lost number six. They are only flying 5 planes. The whole show is a reminder of the missing man. And of what it takes so that we all have our freedom. God bless those guys.

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more." - John Adams

I note that Adams did not say, "Get shit-faced drunk and blow things up at 2am until your neighborhood sounds like a war zone, or until you wind up in the ER with stumps for fingers and people start calling you Lefty."

Or maybe that was implied.

After becoming a casualty of a merger in April, I had an interview today where hiring manager said "I love your background" several times and described how I would be a great fit for a new position he was creating. Looking good.... And, thanks once again for everyone's support.

Amazing start to a four-day weekend last night: I met and talked to John Robinson (now 80 y.o.), who spoke at my boss's (USC alum) retirement party, which also featured a performance by ten members of the USC marching band (somebody ponied up some $$ to the USC foundation make that happen!).  I told him I was a "Michigan Man" and he smiled and said he had been good friends with Bo; and said he always admired our program and liked Ann Arbor. I said we're so happy to have Jim Harbaugh, and he said, "He's a little crazy...but he's bringing you back to the top ten."
