This sentiment is a huge…

This sentiment is a huge part of the problem: "everything is enormously biased?" No, it's really not.

You should take a closer look at their reporting and separate the opinion section from the news section. If my statement that the NYT is impartial elicits an immediate dismissal from you, I'd say your perception of bias is way off base. After all, the NYT is one of the United State's four newspapers of record, if you didn't know. One of the many things that separates the Times from a hack like Ben Shapiro and his publication is that when they make a mistake, they issue a correction/retraction. I'd keep going, but I don't think you're interested in a good faith argument here.

The Daily Wire's reporting…

The Daily Wire's reporting goes far beyond "political leanings". See the Newsguard link I posted above. If you want real news, I'd recommend the New York Times, which has a perfect score. Are they just "pretending to be impartial"?

Can't tell if trolling... so here's the link to Newsguard's review of the Daily Wire:

In short, no, they aren't "certified" and you should look for alternate source(s) when reading the news.

I have seven rewards cards,…

I have seven (non-retailer-specific) rewards cards, signed up for the bonus ($100 minimum payout, up to $300) over the last five years or so for most.

Discover and Chase Freedom - rotating 5% cashback categories with various special offers for Freedom

Wells Fargo/AMEX Propel - 3% cashback on restaurants/bars, gas stations/rideshare, flights and hotels, and streaming services (Apple Music, Hulu, Netflix, Pandora and Spotify)

U.S. Bank Cash + - Select two 5% cashback categories every quarter. Nice to have if you know you will be making a significant purchase at a certain type of store.

AMEX Blue Cash - 3% cash back on grocery store purchases 2% on gas.

Capital One Venture - Catch all for other purchases 2% cash back, pays for a flight back to Ohio every couple of years.

Wells Fargo Cashwise - previously this card had good special offers (10% cash back on gas for a month or groceries) but they stopped offering recently. Make one or two purchases a year with it when their portal to certain retailers has special deals going on to keep it from being closed.

Also have Amazon Prime and Target card for 5% back.

So your stance is that…

So your stance is that Tressel was just honestly defending his players from the FBI and that the players were just "selling trinkets" and accepting $100-$500?

Quite the leap of faith and watering down of Tressel's issues here. I would re-read the linked article and pay close attention to Tressel's former colleague calling him out for rigging a raffle for high-end recruits, (the beginning of a trend) and his introduction of at least one player to a wealthy trustee at YSU. If you care to dig deeper, Pryor was ticketed at least three times while driving dealer's cars in Columbus. Not to mention the drug trafficking that was taking place at the tattoo parlor. This wasn't a few hundred bucks or a couple tattoos; this is multiple new cars on "loan", cash for equipment that players stole, felony drug crimes, and boosters paying players' family members who then purchased the cars. Chase Young had his story ready to go when the quesitons came to him. And sure, it's just "rumored to happen in the SEC". I'm sure the smoke around Cam Newton and his dad was just that, Hugh Freeze was framed, and Rashan Gary wasn't offered $300k to play at Clemson (in non-SEC 'crutin).

I don't know the guy like…

I don't know the guy like you do, just what I've read about him, his players, and his sanctimonious personality. As I said in the OP, he's a perfect fit for the president of OSU. Despite his crooked nature, he can convince people he's a good guy and has just enough credibility to get away with the aw-shucks willful-but-not-willfully blind act. Why would a former colleague essentially call him two-faced twenty-five years after working with him? Because rigging a raffle for top recruits stuck in his head as an act of whatever it takes. Why do his players continue to get involved with criminals wherever he coaches? Hard to say for certain, I guess. It could all be a coincidence, and Tressel really is an honest guy like you allude to, but the evidence doesn't point in that direction.

Logged in for the first time…

Logged in for the first time in... a long time to upvote this. Some folks have this warped perception of Michigan's talent level around here. They have had consistently good players, rarely a great player, and are not even in the same conversation with the talent level of Bama or OSU across the board. The 2016 and 2017 games, where Michigan actually competed with the Bucks, were close because Don Brown's defense is set up to beat OSU's system under Meyer with a dual-threat QB. With an organic pass rush (8 sacks in 2016, 3 in 2017) combined with some creative game-planning, Michigan was just good enough to compete in 2017 and should have won in 2016. Gary and Winovich playing injured last year combined with Bush's injury were gameplan killers. But I digress. Unless the offense can continue to improve and install the Gattis system leading up to the Game, and concurrently develop an organic pass rush with a mediocre d-line, (highly unlikely) this looks like a repeat of 2018.

Agree about the mountain…

Agree about the mountain goats. Their stuff has gotten me through some tough times. I always went back to Old College Try, Waving at You, and Pale Green Things.

I also used to listen to the Divine Fits - Shivers quite a bit. Hope this helps, OP.

Who gives a fuck about an…

Who gives a fuck about an Oxford comma?

A few things

1. Take a picture every month (with the number on a sticker or card) for a year or two to track the growth/development of your boy. Find a stuffed animal for scale to sit beside him. The pictures will be perfect for the scrapbook your wife will create for the first kid. By the time you have a third (if you do, that is) the pictures will be on your phone/camera only, but at least you'll have them.

2. Pay a real photographer for newborn photos within a couple of weeks. The baby will sleep all the time and you'll have some timeless keepsakes.

3. Pay attention to what mom eats when baby seems to be fussy from stomach aches, if she plans on breastfeeding, that is. (I recommend it) Triggers were different for all three of mine.

4. Think carefully about co-sleeping and understand the risks. A co-worker of mine lost a baby in their bed due to co-sleeping, even after taking precautions. I know there is a new study out that was published by NPR about how the risks are over-stated, but do your own research.

5. Take your boy outside, socialize him as much as possible, travel, and go out to dinner, even though it will often be challenging. You and your wife will learn how to go about life with your recent addition, and your son will be comfortable outside of the home.

Good luck, and congrats. Take it slow and enjoy the good times, laugh through the bad.

Now that's exciting to hear

With a dedicated WR coach (and a good one at that) working with the group, I think this is the position group that will see the largest improvement this year. To me, slot is the biggest question mark, and with Perry seeming like he topped out last year, Martin stepping up is huge.

I think this is a quote from The Rules of Attraction

Not an ideal time to forget a "/s" or maybe a gif.... or maybe don't post weird shit like that.

OSU game

If he's going to be available for The Game, he would need at least a week of full pads practice to prepare after at least a week of conditioning. That means the docs have about a week to decide if he's ready to begin conditioning, if he hasn't already. UMBig11, any information you can provide?

The loss of Hurst will be felt, hopefully Solomon is ready to go

I believe Mone has another year of eligibility. Dwumfer has been serviceable as well, and with Gary and Winovich reaching maximum strength, the line shouldn't take more than a small step back, if they do at all.

Can only hope we see this face again tomorrow....

Ruiz at C, Newsome at LT, big Chuck at RT

I think that's a pretty solid line with Bredesen and big Mike playing guard. Sure, there's not a lot of depth, but that's a very good line. They have no losses at the skill positions, and Peters, Speight and D-Caf will be a stong QB battle. Not to mention a defense that returns everyone but McCray, which is scary good. Things are still trending upward.

I counted 3 typos while skimming, not impressed with the writing

TL;DR is pretty much what most people around here have already said. Competition for starting spots is everywhere, lack of experience could hurt them, questions on the O-line and in the defensive secondary. Good depth at running back and receiver should help.

To me, the most exciting thing I have read recently is that Speight has lost over 20 pounds. There won't be much proof or the team working on designed QB keepers, but the ability of a QB to tuck the ball and run on a 2nd or 3rd and short when the defense drops 7 into coverage is crucial to the Harbaughfense. Luck and Kaep were both excellent at making those types of plays to extend drives, and Speight was too slow to make that kind of play last year. Hoping that is one of the changes we see in 2017.

Not an expert, but I've read a lot about the issue...

To start, there are many differences from one strain/type of cannabis plant/product to the next, and chemical makeup of the products available make it hard to say what will work and what won't. It's likely to be a trial and error process, but unlike the prescribed drugs, this will be 100% safe and 99% enjoyable.

Basically, there are 2 types of marijuana, indica and sativa, both containing cannabinoids, mainly CBD and THC. Indicas contain higher amounts of CBD, which gives the user a body high and is known for its "couch-lock" effect. Indicas also contain THC, just less than Sativas. Sativas contains very little CBD and is mostly THC, which is known for mood enhancement. If I were recommending something to your friend, I would say start with a moderate-strength (THC % wise) sativa flower, or bud, and a vape pen. It could change your friend's life in a way that many people in this country can't begin to understand.

Hope your friend lives in a legal state!

My opinion wouldn't change

My opinion wouldn't change one bit. I might grumble to myself about my disagreement with Brian's politics but that's about it. I am glad to see him take a stand on principle and voice his dissatisfaction with the current administration and its continued appointment of individuals who are grossly unqualified to execute their future tasks. It's the first I've seen/heard of him making such a political statement; it will cost him money and followers. Sometimes speaking up against what one views as irrational and potentially dangerous actions is worth the risk.

If you have a megaphone, by all means use it.

Clearly, recent events have pushed Brian to tweet in anger, and I applaud his gumption. He knew that tweet would be troll-bait and posted it anyway. If some people are so butt-hurt that they will now be boycotting the blog because Brian "crossed the line" or whatever, on Twitter, I don't know how much those types were contributing anyhow. M-Live and Maize & Brew await them. I say fuck 'em if they can't deal. If you've got something to say, as Brian did/does, don't let a few potential clicks and a few twitter followers muffle your voice.

2017 Rod Stewart... Not so much

Rod Stewart 1977

Looks alright to me...

Let's go with offend

Gotta disagree with that one

The dude from Disturbed butchers the middle of a timeless, classic song. He kinda sounds like the guy from Shinedown when he does Simple Man; just a lot of yelling and forcing the lyrics out with more volume in an attepmt to sound powerful.

Part of Winovich's problem on the play he got rocked

He was still in his stance for at least a handful of frames after the ball was snapped. Maybe he was surprised by the snap count or just processing his assignment on the play. I'm not too worried about it. As mentioned in Brian's notes, he was only in for 2 snaps agains the Badgers and will likely see no more than 5-10 snaps against the Buckeyes and/or Iowa unless things get out of hand.

Clicked on this thread, read through the comments

and then refreshed the page to see which inane comments were blowing up, and noticed that quite a few of them were removed from the thread. In the past, I think the thread would have been locked down, but I'm gathering that nowadays the mods want to see the comments from the douchebags and morons out there that can bring a sensitive topic such as this one to an ugly place. Good luck with this one, mods; it's probably a lost cause.

Kid doing his De'veon Smith impression against the Buffs

Hey let's try and remember the MSU game from last year

That should put you all in a shittier mood.

Mike Weber will lead the big 10 in rushing yards this year.

Joe Paterno got a raw deal.

Dantonio isn't a bad guy at all. Just misunderstood.

Fuck all y'all.

And laugh. Need booze now.

Feeling like that guy on the sideline today...

Just read a quote from Steve Lorenz via Maize and Brew

Steve says that Michigan's staff is making this kid a priority (he is the #1 recruit, no shock there) and that he is a fit for the culture of the program. He also says the staff's chances are better than most people think. Just sayin.... there's a chance!

After a weeklong stay my inlaws are heading back home

Time to party!

Fair enough

Look into the music though, seriously. If you're not into playing an instrument, a couple puffs/beverages combined with new (to you) music and some high quality headphones can have a positive impact. Works for me.

Some more similarities, but some differences too

I have two young kids and my wife wants at least one more, but I'm not so sure we can afford it. It's likely that we will be arguing about it until we have another kid or I get the snip. Religion isn't something we discuss on this board, so I'll just say your situation is something I cannot relate to. Granted, I'm not considering divorce, but if my love for my wife ceased to exist I would have less to worry about sin-wise than you. Not to get too personal, (I don't think you would mind if I did) but have you two attemped any sort of counseling?

Maybe get back into music, man. There are a variety of ways to get into music-based conversations here during OT season and other places. There's a "follow" feature on Spotify where you can create playlists and listen to other people's stuff. If you play an instrument, do it more/get a new or different one and find people to jam with. I'm convinced it's at least partially what keeps me from alcoholism.

As a fellow compliance guy who had a "fun" job years ago

I hear you. Compliance work is probably the least exciting thing I've ever done with my life. I got out of the bank I worked for (one of the largest in the country) because I knew it was only a matter of time before my job would be transitioned to India. Now I'm with an enterprise compliance unit that is at least somehwat more exciting with a non-publicly traded company. But it still mostly blows.

So, yeah, some days I do regret not sticking with the 10 person company that I worked for before the bank. Back then I could take my dog to work most days, I was out in the city taking pictures and designing various projects for all sorts of clients. The owners stocked the fridge with beer at least a couple times a month for Friday afternoons.. life was pretty good. My band was playing solid gigs and we had written about 20 songs. But 2008-2009 almost killed the business off, my hours got cut, and I had to take a job in a kitchen to repay my student loans. 50-60 hour weeks are quite draining after a couple years, and I wasn't saving anything.

I did what was practical, joined a big bank working entry-level call center jobs for a couple years and my position was eliminated. Caught a break and stayed with the company in a compliance role for a couple years and now I'm married with 2 kids. Life is... vanilla. Some days I wonder, "is this it?"

Well, your reputation was/is better than mine

Everyone in my circle knew pretty quickly, and no one seemed too shocked by it. The birth of my daughter was eventually what made me change my ways. Now that I've got two kids and am the sole provider for my family, I realize there's a lot more than just my dumb ass to think about these days. Not to mention the other lives I put at risk behind the wheel after drinking. Man, just thinking about those years when I used to do this shit is unsettling...

Other than living on the coast, this is nearly identical...

to my experience. A year out of college, driving drunk after going out with friends on Halloween, lost focus (didn't quite fall asleep) and slammed into a parked car. It was a disabled car near the turn lane that I drifting towards, but I must have been doing 40 mph. Walked away with scratches and some airbag burn, but got a DUI and paid the $2k (which was all the money I had at the time) in court costs/fines. I wish I could say that this was my last experience with drinking and driving, but sadly it was not. Never got another DUI, but didn't learn my lesson until years later. Now it's uber/cabs/DD every time.

See the video in this thread where he's getting interviewed...

The Warriors had just won the championsihp in 2015. He just can't help himself, and proceeds to brag about how great his team is and put down the team he just defeated because he's the worst. He doesn't just play the game with a chip on his shoulder, he lives his life with a chip on his shoulder. It's why he kicks players in the balls on-court, runs his mouth nonstop even after winning a championship and likely why he ended up in a barfight.

I'll agre with you somewhat and say it's foolish to make blanket statements concerning the character and personality of all buckeye and spartan players, but Draymond is a clear-cut example of a total Spartan douche.

I think he's attempting to make a statement about judging

all former Spartans as bad people. But it's a pretty crappy argument.

Logged in to downvote

Yeesh, what a awful comment. We get it, Stephen, don't judge all Spartans based on the actions of the few. But Draymond is the worst. Dude is a scrotum kicking d-bag that played for a team I fucking hate coached by a guy who complains about everything he can't control and makes excuses for why his team just lost. We should all enjoy some Draymond Green bashing. It's somewhat satisfying to think about his smug, cheap-shot-taking punk ass in jail for the night.

No

God damn you. I had to go back and re-read the Shawn Crable posts from Brian... ugh

Alright, Andre

it's time to try the underhand free-throws. 36% from the stripe just won't cut it for that kind of money.

I can see a fourth star in this kid's future

Now that he's playing for one of the top teams in the country with a run-first offense... this could be a guy that gets others in the region talking about Michigan.

I will be tuning into his team's first game against IMG and hopefully fire up that hype train.

Whoa

Have a wonderful weekend

And don't be a shit head...
