Recruiting update: (MBB) Harold Baruti to Utah (FB) Lorenz finally CB'd DPJ to UM

Submitted by Wee-Bey Brice on

Saw some posters asking about Baruti yesterday. Looks like he's headed to Utah. Not sure if Beilein will continue to pursue 16' prospects.

I can confirm the @Runnin_Utes have added Harold Baruti to their 2016 class, (6'6" & 6'11" wingspan. #UteNation

In football related news, Lorenz & Clint Brewster put in crystal balls for DPJ to Michigan today. Expect for a flood of them to follow as they usually do when Lorenz puts in a crystal ball.

.@clintbrew247 and I have put in @247Sports #CrystalBall choices for Donovan Peoples-Jones to #Michigan: https://t.co/pE4QjSr0MF

CAREER STATS RECEIVING RUSHING SEASON REC YDS AVG LNG TD ATT YDS AVG LNG TD 2015 50 764 15.3 64 9 8 155 19.4 66 2 2014 14 154 11.0 28 0 0 0 0.0 0 0 2013 15 221 14.7 58 1 2 1 0.5 2 0 I thought he was more productive than that before 2015. He double his career TDs in the Indiana game. His numbers exploded with Rudock turning into a good qb. The difference is much greater than with Butt or Darboh. I wonder how much the second half of last year was Rudock getting better and Chesson getting better.

That's being awfully charitable. Two B1G-caliber WRs in four years of recruiting is how you wind up not even making a bowl game. Even if you count Harris, it's still abysmal. Look at it this way: Is Harbaugh likelier to get 2 in 4 years or 2 per year?

Putting your head in the sand, cheering on blunder after blunder and staying engaged does not work for everyone. With limited time to spend following sports, I decided to focus that time following Harbaugh and relishing in the supreme success he is building.

Every program deals with attrition.  But to be clear let me spell out a few ways JB could do it better:

1) Start recruiting better players so that you lose three guys in one class who can't play at this level,

(2) Sign grad transfers.  Good programs do this often, including IU and MSU.  Has JB ever signed a grad transfer?

(3) Don't tell your 5th year grads to take a hike, unless you have better options.  Spike could help this team next year, just like Max could have helped last year.

Several recruits at Schembechler Hall right now, Coach Harbaugh showing them around. Here for a youth football day. Coach led 200 or so young kids on the Michigan Mile to open the camp. He personally counted each kid as they finished, telling them their place, right up to the last ones.

I am really hoping the two new assistants can get some decent players even if they take a year or two develop. Can't leave scholarships on the table.

Like you like your chances of landing a much better player with them in the next class. Beilein has not been in the habit of leaving spots open. He's signed a number of low rated players late in the process with a remarkable hit rate. The one thing I don't expect him to do is sign a 2016 that he doesn't think can contribute right away. That's not getting any value from the scholarship next season.

Unless we are recruiting early contributors, this may not be the best option for UM. Let us hope you are right and the assistant are able to help get some players who can play right away. But, it seems like Beilien needs his players to be in his system for a while before they contribute. If that trend continues, leaving spots open will stretch when we will see a complete roster. Someone below mentioned that Beilien has done this every year. I guess it won't change this year either.

So did Baruti put up a poor score in that test he had to take?

I guess Im asking more if Michigan was even an option for him or if he truly preferred and chose the Utes.

The word was that he was scheduled to take the test Saturday - he committed to the other place the day before.

There is no passing score on the TOEFL test - you have to meet a certain score based on what the University requires.

Unless it was kept very quiet, I think this Saturday was the first time he took the test.

Insider on Scout said Michigan wasn't highly interested.

Beilein is very much in the habit of leaving spots open:
2010-11: 12* on scholarship (13 counting Akunne, a PWO who was awarded one in 2009)
2011-12: 12* (ditto)
2012-13: 12* (ditto)
2013-14: 11
2014-15: 13 (one of which was Hatch)
2015-16: 12
You can see for yourself on MGoBlue's archives. Now, I agree that in this instance, leaving a spot open is preferable to just signing a warm body. But maximizing all 13 spots has never been Beilein's strong suit.

he was one over for 2016 with 14 signed. So, I guess to keep you happy, he should have signed two more to be 3 over with 16 so we wouldn't have any open at the moment. Or, he could just go grab what ever is available and everyone would be happy, that is, until you see them on the floor. Then you would be complaining about Beilein signing these guys that can't play at the Big Ten level.

Yep.  Its hard to discuss basketball here.  I enjoy your posts because you understand and are level headed when discussing it.

For far too many here, one days,  the roster is full of dead weight...

Shortly after, he players that people thought might need to move on, do move on, then people are saying What the fuck is going, is something wrong??

Like me some DPJ crystal ballz to UM. That's a huge HUGE recruiting victory over our rivals if it happens.

Pretty shocked about these early crystal balls. DPJ is so far from making his choice. The only school that is really out of it is Stanford because he can't enroll early. DPJ is very tight on giving out information and takes a lot of trips just to get his boys looks. He won't even share with his mother

This isn't your average kid and if he ends up going elsewhere it will be because he thinks it is what is best for him. I don't think anyone should get to excited,

If Steve has more information than I'd have I'd be surprised. I am very aware of the number of visits. I'm aware of how much the trips to the hosptial and all of that has helped Michigan.

I still think this is too early to call. Most everyone is guessing because he isn't sharing anything, not even with his mother.

That's isn't just some feeling I have.
