Recruiting update: (MBB) Harold Baruti to Utah (FB) Lorenz finally CB'd DPJ to UM
Saw some posters asking about Baruti yesterday. Looks like he's headed to Utah. Not sure if Beilein will continue to pursue 16' prospects.
I can confirm the @Runnin_Utes have added Harold Baruti to their 2016 class, (6'6" & 6'11" wingspan. #UteNation

In football related news, Lorenz & Clint Brewster put in crystal balls for DPJ to Michigan today. Expect for a flood of them to follow as they usually do when Lorenz puts in a crystal ball.
.@clintbrew247 and I have put in @247Sports #CrystalBall choices for Donovan Peoples-Jones to #Michigan: https://t.co/pE4QjSr0MF

Every program deals with attrition. But to be clear let me spell out a few ways JB could do it better:
1) Start recruiting better players so that you lose three guys in one class who can't play at this level,
(2) Sign grad transfers. Good programs do this often, including IU and MSU. Has JB ever signed a grad transfer?
(3) Don't tell your 5th year grads to take a hike, unless you have better options. Spike could help this team next year, just like Max could have helped last year.
(Please ignore the fact that Lyons rarely saw the field and came from one of the very few programs in the country that is more academically elite than Michigan).

So everyone can lose their minds? I think the board has left the morality station long ago.

This should be a meritocracy, just like the football program. Lonergan and Dakcih may be nice hard working kids, but they have not shown they are worth scholarships at the Big Ten level.
You just proved my point. The board doesn't want to award scholarships because you have been nice, hard working kids. Giving Longerman and Dakich schollys would be the nice thing to do. The board doesnt want to do the nice thing, the board wants better players.

Like you like your chances of landing a much better player with them in the next class. Beilein has not been in the habit of leaving spots open. He's signed a number of low rated players late in the process with a remarkable hit rate. The one thing I don't expect him to do is sign a 2016 that he doesn't think can contribute right away. That's not getting any value from the scholarship next season.
So did Baruti put up a poor score in that test he had to take?
I guess Im asking more if Michigan was even an option for him or if he truly preferred and chose the Utes.
The word was that he was scheduled to take the test Saturday - he committed to the other place the day before.
There is no passing score on the TOEFL test - you have to meet a certain score based on what the University requires.
Unless it was kept very quiet, I think this Saturday was the first time he took the test.
Insider on Scout said Michigan wasn't highly interested.
2010-11: 12* on scholarship (13 counting Akunne, a PWO who was awarded one in 2009)
2011-12: 12* (ditto)
2012-13: 12* (ditto)
2013-14: 11
2014-15: 13 (one of which was Hatch)
2015-16: 12
You can see for yourself on MGoBlue's archives. Now, I agree that in this instance, leaving a spot open is preferable to just signing a warm body. But maximizing all 13 spots has never been Beilein's strong suit.

he was one over for 2016 with 14 signed. So, I guess to keep you happy, he should have signed two more to be 3 over with 16 so we wouldn't have any open at the moment. Or, he could just go grab what ever is available and everyone would be happy, that is, until you see them on the floor. Then you would be complaining about Beilein signing these guys that can't play at the Big Ten level.
Yep. Its hard to discuss basketball here. I enjoy your posts because you understand and are level headed when discussing it.
For far too many here, one days, the roster is full of dead weight...
Shortly after, he players that people thought might need to move on, do move on, then people are saying What the fuck is going, is something wrong??

Pretty shocked about these early crystal balls. DPJ is so far from making his choice. The only school that is really out of it is Stanford because he can't enroll early. DPJ is very tight on giving out information and takes a lot of trips just to get his boys looks. He won't even share with his mother
This isn't your average kid and if he ends up going elsewhere it will be because he thinks it is what is best for him. I don't think anyone should get to excited,

If Steve has more information than I'd have I'd be surprised. I am very aware of the number of visits. I'm aware of how much the trips to the hosptial and all of that has helped Michigan.
I still think this is too early to call. Most everyone is guessing because he isn't sharing anything, not even with his mother.
That's isn't just some feeling I have.

Again, all I said was I am shocked by them being done so early.
Its not really that early. He is an early enrolle and is not a signing day decision.
He has a 4.0 GPA. Its easy to eliminate a bunch of schools just based on that.
