Shocking night in B1G Hockey
Michigan's B1G Championship hopes looked dead and gone after last night's terrible loss.
Not quite.
MSU beat Minnesota 5-0. You read that right.
Also, Wisconsin beat Penn State, 4-3.
A win tomorrow and we will be in the same position we were in a week ago. Just down one point out of first place.
That Wisconsin score is key, because Wisconsin plays Minnesota next weekend. They'll be headed into that rivalry game with some momentum while minnie will be licking their wounds after an embarrassing loss.
Of course, none of what I typed means a thing if we don't get a win tomorrow. But it looks like this is a golden opportunity at a second chance.
I swear the hockey team has been more infuriating to watch than the basketball team the past couple of years solely due to the fact that the hockey team has been squandering boatloads of talent that the basketball team dreams of having.
Predicting this team is like herding cats.

The coaching change rumblings are gonna start again if they don't win the next one.

those aren't going away
I admittedly am not a big hockey person, but this team doesn't seem very reliable to jump on an opportunity like this.
I trust the knowledgeable people on here telling me we have a lot of talent, but we certainly don't seem to capitialize on it
Tomorrow is the biggest game of the season. Period.
And surprise surprise, it won't be televised nor will it be streamed. Going old fashioned and listening to the radio of it.
Players can be drafted once they reach 18 years old. So you can have incoming freshmen already having draft rights or guys on the team that are sophomores or juniors can be drafted.
Michigan has two first round draft picks on the team this year.
There are 30 first round picks in a draft that has 211 picks that are selected from all over the globe. As you know, first rounders are sure things. Dylan Larkin jumped straight from Michigan to the NHL and became an all-star as a rookie.
Yeah, I'm very disappointed this won't be on TV. Sunday afternoon game should get some love.
As far as the guys that we've gotten that were first rounders, they've all been pretty damn good.
In the last 15 years: Komisarek, Nystrom, Tambellini, Montoya, JMFJ, Cogliano, Mitera, Summers, Patch, Trouba, Larkin, Werenski, Connor.
I wouldn't say any of those players were bad, underachieved their lofty expectations? Yes but not bad players
Hopefully Racine's fragile confidence wasn't totally broken by that center ice goal last Saturday. :(
Sure seems like it since he was shelled Friday and pulled for Nagelvoort for the first time in the calendar year.
No idea who will start tomorrow and I'm quite afraid of that. Racine or someone needs to get it together. This is not the time to go through this musical goalie thing again.
Meanwhile, Tech just won the WCHA title...
absolutely incredible.
Tech was lifeless when he arrived and sure enough he made them into a tournament calibur program out of nowhere when everyone thought Tech's best days had been long gone. He's basically our Harbaugh. Alums need to start calling him telling him to come back
Except he's their Harbaugh.. He played at Tech and now he went back as coach and has revitalized that program.
You can't hire someone currently on the staff. Granted, from my observations, they are the ones actually coaching the team- but we see how far that has gotten Michigan the past 3 years.

SB Nation has an article from July 2015 that says "Michigan Tech has some protection from Pearson leaving in the form of a hefty buyout. His current buyout is $300,000 until May of next year, then decreases in $50,000 increments each remaining year of the contract."
That's a drop in the bucket to get the coach you want.
currently ranked ninth nationally in team defense!
'nuff said!
So that's where the defense went...
Makes our Loss to OSU and all those damm earlier ties even MORE deplorable..Once again itlooks like this team absolutely CHOKED
Football, basketball, and hockey have mastered one thing - choking when it matters.

that Racine is in net this afternoon? he's picked a hell of a time to be a head case. not that any time is a good time, but now when the B10 championship is on the line? the alternative doesn't exactly inspire confidence, but damn! the soft goals he's given up the last 2 games makes me wonder.
This is nice. Just more maddening that we didnt take care of business and take control . Maybe this will help the team to understand they cant just show up and win. Every game is a fight from here on out.
