GLI Championship Open Thread: Michigan vs. Michigan Tech

#10 Michigan (10-3-3) vs. Michigan Tech (11-6-2)

Michigan defeated Northern 3-2 yesterday while Tech overcame a 2-0 deficit to MSU in the 3rd and won in OT. Michigan is looking for their 6th GLI crown in the last 10 years while Tech is looking to add its 2nd since 1980 after breaking the seal again in 2012.

Speaking of which, MSU choked away another 3rd period lead tonight and lost in OT. Up 1-0 in the 3rd the Northerns scored with about 4:00 to go and then won it in OT. MSU finishes 4th. This is looking like it'll be Anastos' last season.

TV is FSD or BTN+. I have neither so it's radio for me.

I'd love to open this one up one more round in the future. Get these four plus Lake State, Ferris, and Western to make the GLI Michigan's tournament. Leave it at seven (and give the previous champ the bye) or invite an 8th or get crazy and invite Adrian

Bigger issues come into play once you invite Adrian. Adrian only gets 25 games per season (D-3 rules), and they're already locked into 20 conference games. They really need quality N/C games that they can win for purposes of making the D-3 NCAA's. 

If you think the PWR is enough to deal with, get a load of how D-3 does their tournament.

but doing it with 7 teams would possibly be manageable. The attraction of 4 team tournaments is that everyone is guaranteed two games - no more, no less. Doing a 7-8team tournament makes it really hard for everyone to get a guaranteed 3 games and that's a lot of games for 3 days anyway. Would all the teams care about not knowing if they get 2 or 3 games? I don't know.

Still though, if you were to theoretically seed off last year's champ + last year's final pairwise it could be cool. Using that method plus today's PWR:

Let me start by saying that I detest the scum of East Landfill.  They sent osu to the Rose Bowl during the infimate vote year after we slapped them that year.  During the Perles years they were playing Iowa and had the game won, but Georgie boy called a pass and it was picked off and returned for a game winning Iowa TD.  I wrote this song, to be sung to there slimy tune, for all to enjoy after that game.  Even handed it out at the Charles Woodson game up in EL years later to M fans that drew a chuckle.  I share it here with you today to provide karma for tonight.  ROLL TIDE!!!
