82nd Mudbowl In Jeopardy

Submitted by Michiganguy19 on

There are few things at the University of Michigan that have existed from generation to generation on our fabled campus as a production of the students for students without University administrators, no Lochdog, just good old fashion'd collegiate fun... The Mudbowl is just that and it is in jeopardy of not having a 82nd installment. Presented for your commentary and support...

One of my earliest memories of Michigan was visiting my brother was an SAE back in mid 60's (I must've been 7-8 years old) and watching the mudbowl from his fraternity window.  I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen.

Yeah. I don't have anything against most Greek culture. Wasnt for me. But I feel zero sympathy for sae. If this "good" tradition has to die in order to help eliminate over a century of ugliness, fine by me.

Seems to me that if the mudbowl was so important to them, and they saw themselves as caretakers of this amazing and important tradition, maybe they could have found a way to be better behaved and not, you know, get suspended and kicked off campus.

When I first read this thread title, I was thinking of the game show Jeopardy and wondering what type of mud bowl Alex was hosting.

I should have a cup of coffee before I start surfing the web.

I got in a short fight with SAE 20+ years ago while they were getting ready for the mudbowl.  Unprovoked they turned the fire hose on me and a small group of friends(mostly girls) becasue they were drunk pricks.  Fire hoses hurt.  Fight ended when the frat boys started piling out of the house and we walked away.  No love for them or the mud bowl.

Glad that greek life isnt as big at michigan as it is in the south. Personally see no benefit and know a dozen former greeks who look back and say the same. Most dont even mention it on resumes

I checked out the Mud Bowl one time, and I think it was SAE against either Phi Delt or Fiji.  It was actually pretty embarrassing to watch because of it's cave-man look-at-us mentality (but that's my personal opinion).  I was in a fraternity, and I played probably every single IM sport you could for my fraternity, and I had no problem with the competition (and sometimes the fighting) aspect of the IM program.  The Mud Bowl, other than its charitable (and laudable) goal, was just sort of cheesy.

Is SAE's house still on the corner of Washtenaw and S. University?

Check the spelling in the link. It refers to a rouge fraternity. Not the OP's fault, whoever made the hyperlink. Is that a communist fraternity? Maybe has OSU ties? I'm confused. Remeber when Sarah Palin went rouge on Glen Rice? or did she go rogue?
