I love how Harbaugh mentions Michigan Replay and the music. Anyone know why they had to retire it? I thought Bob Lipson held the rights to the show, if that's the case, wouldn't he be happy to see it back under Harbaugh? It sure sounds like Jim would've liked that.
August 30th, 2015 at 2:31 PM ^
That Harbaugh says he doesn't recall asking a team to work this hard in fall camp and have tihs level of focus.
Sounds like this was more of a year 1 thing to get things to the level he wanted it and he may ease off the gas just a touch during next year's fall camp.
I love that this team has been through a grinder like they'll never experience ever again. Lay that foundation and expectation.

Under Schembechler it was called "The Fort"...same thing.
Camp will forever be camp.
But 4 hour practices and the constant pressure and intensity is what I'm referring to. I don't ever think it'll be loose, music will be playing and media will be invited.
I just think it'll be a touch more "normal" and this year was Harbaugh really laying a foundation and expectation for the future.
All the coaches said this was something like they've never seen too, that's telling because many have worked with Harbaugh in the past.

He may be a coach around these parts someday.

If Peppers stays healthy he'll be an NFL star, rare is the NFL star that becomes a coach.
August 30th, 2015 at 8:06 PM ^
Harbaugh was a play away from the SuperBowl and he became one.
Depends on how much you love the game when you stop playing it.
Maybe Peppers will own a team instead.

you could just sense in his voice. He means what he says.

there were only one or two games on the TV on Saturday then. Bill Flemming's show was a way to see highlights of all the Top 25 teams.

Brian has appropriated the the former theme music for his own weekly podcasts. I think he's made the song a point of considerable attention for sometime.
I remember the old Nortre Dame game highlight show. As I recall, Paul Horning was also on with Lindsay Nelson's call to give some background color. Everytime I see an ESPN shortened game rebroadcast, I think of that ND show. But it's funny how that show and the old Michigan Replay resonate with Harbaugh. Childhood memories like that, however, tend to have a huge hold on us especially when we acquaint them with doing things we like, like playing football in his neighborhood after that show on Sundays.
I think it's also interesting in that regard that the question the show chose for Harbaugh to answer asked him when he thought about being a coach, and he related that the choice was made early to follow in his father's footsteps as his primary role model. I also couldn't help but think of that story about him sitting in Bo's office on his chair and being confronted by the coach. He was clearly daydreaming about another time then.
This coupled with his recollection of his playing days throwing TD passes to his former roomate and rangy tightend Paul Jokish, his dual threat qb style, his understanding of Michigan history and how Bo broke in in 1969 with one of the hardest camps in memory of participants, ought to tell you certain things about our coach and why he returned to Ann Arbor.
All in all, Harbaugh's first show was quite a revelation about his future and past.

Peppers for President. Those interview highlights were a thing of beauty.
Have we ever had a RS Sophomore captain? Because I've found one.

He can only be a sargeant, I'm afraid... not a captain.

Yes. To understand Jim Harbaugh, you only need to undersatnd that he is the world's oldest middle schooler.
All the fun, crazy things middle schoolers do, that is what he does. All the rude, obnoxious things middle schoolers do, he does those as well.
He is pure.
