OT - USMNT Gold Cup Final Game of Group Stage

Submitted by alum96 on

Game means nothing to U.S. (already qualified for next round) and everything to Panama as Haiti shocks the tourney with a current 4 pts.  A Panama win pushes them into 2nd in the group but Haiti should be fine as a 3rd place team with 4 pts (top 2 3rd place teams advance).   A tie from Panama might push the to the next round with 3 pts.

  • Guzan
  • Chandler, Alvarado, Brooks, Johnson
  • Bedoya, Beckerman, Bradley, Morales
  • Wondo, Zardes

I'd prob play Chandler and Jozy this whole game and then sit them the rest of the tourney (ok maybe Jozy as a sub for 15 minutes) but I can deal with this mix as Zardes could use 60 min.  Wondo is fine for garbage games.... Ice Man rest of tournament up top with Zardes I hope.

I'd have liked to see Johnson at an outside mid but he seems stuck at D for the U.S.   Morales will be interesting to watch to see if he has any impact.

Chandler - off the team

Besler/Ream and Gonzalez/Brooks should be the CBs, PERIOD. End of discussion. Alvarado is awful right now.

Zardes should be the "Super Sub" let him play every game, but he's struggled mightly as a starter. Just not ready. Give me Dempsey and Ice Man with Zardes and Altidore as my subs.

Alvardo is awful.

Hopefully this game exposes Chandler, the worst player on the entire team. I'd rather watch Julian Green grow on this team that this guy, nothing against him, he tries hard and he represents the US with class. But he's not good enough to be on the team.

Gonzales for Brooks....

...I'm letter Chandler play because I don't want to waste a sub and he wouldn't play another minute for me in this tournament.

Yedlin for Bedoya...

Johansson for Wondo...

Then play him in friendlies until he's even close to ready for matches that matter. I get he needs experience. But let him get it in friendlies and other international play until he gets older and more experienced and then when he's even BORDERLINE to be on the team, then let him play in these types of matches.

US looks slow.  Can't string two passes together in the attacking 3rd.

Zardes doesn't look ready.  Why Wondo?  Why not give Johannsson a shot?

Referees are fantastic, as well.

GK - Guzan
LB - Johnson
CB - Ream
CB - Brooks / Gonzalez
RB - Garza / Evans
DM - Beckerman / Diskerud / Bradley
LM - Diskerud / Zusi
RM - Yedlin
AM - Diskerud / Bradley

1st Sub: Zardes

2nd Sub would be one of the /'s that didn't start

3rd Sub: Altidore

FYI - I like Bedoya, but he is either super rusty or he's not 100% yet.
