Tressel inducted into the ohio HOF

Headline says it all. Apparently the degnerate ohio fans think this is great and long overdue, despite what shenanigans he did that were reported vs. all the stuff that never did see the light of day. Truly the Al Davis motto, "Just Win Baby", applies with them, not sure which fan base is worse, them or Penn State. Excuse me while I go vomit.
Of course.
.
.
not!
on a first glance. Thought: "So the long arm of the law finally caught up with this peckerwood." Then I realized there was no way.
the title as INDICTED. One can only hope considering your comments above!
Hall Of Frauds.
and his team, helter skelter, made the 'curbing random homicide' hall of fame...
HOF? Hall Of Frauds?
Is it tHOF?
Ohio State*
Ohio.
By Ohio standards, he is a definite Hall of Famer. He cheated for more than twenty years at two programs and brought them a total of five National Championships. He was a genius in the field of plausible deniability. And, of course, he hates Michigan with a passion.
That's pretty much all it takes...
I think we saw this coming when they carried him off of the field a hero. Buckeyes have no shame.
What did he really do that was so shameful other than manhandling our piss poor teams for a decade? Pay his players? Oh how reprehensible!! He broke the rules of a cartel that exploits young men under the guise that their repayment is an education in order to help out his players personally. Remember, many of his kids came from cripplingly poor areas, so a lot of that "cheating" money went back to help their families.
Hell, I would hope our coaches who make millions per year would throw something the way of players whose families have trouble keeping the power on or kids who are far from home and can't afford to visit their families instead of giving some bullshit speech about the value of overcomming adversity from the front seat of his S550.
how evil the NCAA is along with "Who cares if they cheat, the NCCA is evil!" somewhat hilarious. The NCAA does not force anyone to sign up with them, and it isn't like the they are hiding any rules when you sign up. If you can't play by the rules, don't go to school. I don't understand what's so difficult about it.
It's their only opportunity to get out of the hell that is poverty in American inner cities. Does that mean once they get to college suddenly all the issues their family has suddenly disappears? Does that mean their mothers suddenly don't have to pay rent or the utilities? No.
So what does that mean? Often times it means the player is consumed with grief and sometimes even guilt that their family in a bad situation while they're playing ball. If it's cheating to relieve some of that greif by throwing some money their way, then hell yeah I'm all for cheating.
So while the NCAA doesn't force you sign up, it also isn't an excuse for preventing them to make money of their likeness and accomplishments. But because they do for reasons that have no practical basis, tressel acted like a compassionate human being and helped out the kids that allow him to be so rich and successful.
Nice attempt at deflection though, your moralized chest thumping makes you look like a caveman.
"Compassionate human being" - now I know you're full of shit. If he was a compassionate human being, he would have been helping out ALL of the poor kids on his team, not just the Pryors and Claretts. He was a self-serving liar and cheater, and you sound absurd trying to defend him.
Since, you know, Pryor came from the "large, dangerous and poverty stricken" city of Jeannette, PA (population 9,530) and grew up in a 2 parent household.
Check the posting history.
TROLL ALERT.
HOWEVER (1) it still IS a rule, (2) it's a rule which most other NCAA instutitions are generally trying to comply with, and (3) JT certainly knew it was a rule, and then broke another NCAA rule by not reporting it.
Another example: I think pot should be legalized in my home state. Which is a fine opinion for me to have, and I can work to get my home state's laws changed.
But it doesn't mean I won't get in trouble if I start smoking and/or selling it right now.
sure, but I'm still failing to see where the shame in all this lies? He broke an arbitrary rule by an arbitrary governning body. yeah he broke a rule, but no one on this whole forum has given me a practical reason why there is shame in this.
If there's shame in breaking rules, then ok, does that mean things like racism or homophobia aren't things to be ashamed of? There's no rules against either of those things.
Just because something is a rule doesn't mean it's the threshold between right and wrong
Pryor traded gold pants for tattoos. Fine. JT can't police Pryor and company 24/7, Pryor's trading activities are not JT's fault.
But when JT learns about it and decides to ignore it --- that's when it became a problem.
You do realize that on top of the broken rules (which like you said, are truly petty), JT lied and covered them up, right? That's the big problem here, and always been the issue with him since this came to light. As ridiculous as the NCAA is, they don't impose a show-cause penalty on someone for little dinky rules that no one cares about.

a liar and a cheater!
The Ohio State "Hall of Fame" member are NOT selected by the University nor the Athletic Department but rather by an independent group called The Varsity O.
http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2015/06/how_jim_tressel_was_sele…
"The Varsity O is a separate group, the lifelong club for any former Ohio State varsity athletes, and it alone is in charge of the hall selections, Varsity O president Stephen Chappelear explained to the Northeast Ohio Media Group on Wednesday. The women's Varsity O makes the choices on female athletes.
While the athletic department plays a large role in the induction weekend, it was the Varsity O that started the Hall in 1977 and that independently makes the choices.
"The athletic department is part of the recognition but not part of the selection," Chappelear said."
Well, it's nice to know that the ethical standards for the Varsity O aligns so well with the OSU Athletic Department, despite it not being directly affiliated with in an any official capacity.
LOL.
Now OSU fans can argue who better represents the state, Woody or Tressel.
Let me help you, OP. Penn State's fan base (i.e., that group that still apologizes for Joe Paterno) is the worst, and it's not even close. While Tressel turned a blind eye to disallowed benefits, JoePa aided and abetted the serial rape of children.
Tressel is a charlatan, and OSU fans lionizing him is laughable. But since the Jerry Sandusky revelations, the race for worst apologist fans in football has always been for silver - PSU is secure atop that podium.
EM, personally I agree with you completely, my question was more rhetorical. Like you I firmly believe psu fans are just fucking blind, delusional and can't see what damage joepa helped to do.
I saw your point as rhetorical, but any chance I have to underscore that JoePa apologists are beyond the pale when it comes to "my team, right or wrong" stupidity? Imma take it.
Part of what's sad is that many PSU fans understand that the latter part of JoePa's reign was immensely shameful, and are contrite. And many of those fans are really nice people, and I understand why they don't necessarily write off the team - but they sure as hell decry the evils of The Second Mile, etc., and they own PSU's role in enabling Sandusky.
But the more vocal apologist corps? They are, as you note, absolutely delusional.
and I do spend some time on the boards at Pennlive.com. I have never in my life witnessed such utter disregard for Sandusky's victims as the Paterno supporters display there.
It goes as far as to call the victims liars and and gold diggers. They want to name the stadium after Paterno and now they want to name bridges after Paterno.
They find no fault in Spanier (prez at the time), Curley (AD) and Schultz (finance guy) for spiking the police report nor any fault for Paterno for walking away letting them do it.
They are a vile bunch.
among the "more vocal apologist corps" actually DO? This is a serious question.
I view myself as among the "contrite folk", and many JoeBots annoy me. But those JoeBots are alums, they are fans, they do have freedom of opinion and the right to that opinion and they can think whatever they want. I can't muzzle them.
My view on things is they'll eventually just die and fade away. That may take a whole generation, but it is what it is. They're delusion and loudness and obnoxiousness may annoy me (and others), but they do get their say.
I think that persistent but reasoned confrontation is about all you can do. You can't fix stupid, but given that the rape of children is involved, I don't sit silent when I'm talking to one of these nutjobs either.
Put another way, the JoePa apologists - as you say - do have the right to be wrong. But the rational part of the PSU fanbase has the right to call them out as delusional. I think it's arguably the rational part of the PSU fanbase's duty to call them out. Something along the lines of "you know, when you defend JoePa and PSU's actions regarding the Sandusky scandal, you make all of us look foolish" would be appropriate.
FTR, some of the nicest fans I've ever met have been from PSU. It's a shame that the vocal JoePa apologists make it so easy to paint the entire fanbase with one brush.
PSU game in the 2012-2014 era (I've made them all except Iowa 2012).
That's been a whole lot of fun but it's also not been cheap.
But I do feel that's important, talk with opposing fans at those games and allow them to put some sort of face to Penn State.
That's how I have viewed my "contribution" (as it is) in the process of defining what PSU is all about in the post-Sandusky era.
"But those JoeBots are alums, they are fans, they do have freedom of opinion and the right to that opinion and they can think whatever they want. I can't muzzle them."Nobody is saying that they don't have a right to express their heinous opinions, nor are they saying that you are responsible for keeping them quiet. We are simply saying that the ones who support Paterno and had the gall to proudly wear their Penn State gear in support of the university during the trial as the horrifying details kept coming out are fucking terrible people who deserve the public scorn.
But to add to the other responses you can decline to vote for people like Lubrano during the Alumni Trustee elections. I suspect you don't have much of a choice (many apologists running for the election and few non-apologists), but that is one way in addition to calling them out when they go on about how Paterno did everything he was supposed to do or that Sandusky fooled everybody.
I have family who are PSU grads and PSU folks I've met on line and they are all like you in that they do not want to whitewash what happened there.
I don't ever want to tar you with the same brush as I would the joepologists.
there's a group that is well-funded called PS4RS that is basically the "king-makers" in terms of who the 9 alumni members of the PSU BOT are.
Unfortunately, PS4RS will be a tough nut to crack for others to crack. Fortunately, the BOT is still set-up such that the alumni members are still a minority and cannot dictate greater policy (most BOT members are still rational and practical and sane).
FWIW: I'm on BWI and though I am rather unpopular over there, I'm still an active poster and have never been banned. I bring that up because I find it very interesting that while I am rarely censored on BWI --- those times when I am censored tend to be when I asked about who exactly is funding PS4RS.
I HIGHLY suspect the Paternos are funding that group --- and I also highly suspect that BWI's board monitor (Tom McAndrew) is on the Paternos' payroll himself. McAndrew (who is not even a PSU alum) broke the story of Paterno's immediately-impending death in January 2012. Given that, the way he moderates his board, and other insider information he occasionally has, at the very least it is clear that McAndrew is deeply imbedded in the Paternos' inner circle.
on PS4RS. Thanks for the insight on McAndrew.
Believe it or not, when deflate gate came out, I had a PSU co-worker go off about how it was exactly the same as the PSU situation - i.e biased report with a bunch of claims based on little to no actual evidence. It was at that point I relaized the PSU fan base was completely insane.
to keep Tressel from implicating other people in the admin and coaching staff. Does anybody seriously believe that nobody but Tressel knew what was happening with the boosters? What really was in the emails of Tressel, Smith and others---the emails that OSU refused to release?
The players got in trouble for selling/trading their own personal belongings. That rule is so incredibly stupid. Tressel got in trouble for keeping that a secret.
I will not put this anywhere near the same category as what supposedly went down for Cam Newton or SMU, etc.... These were payment for services and something that should be outlawed or at least put on a level playing service because otherwise it tips the scales.
Selling your own crap (of which you have 100% ownership) for money is not in the same ballpark.
Having said that Tressel got what he deserved. He knew the rules and whatever his motivations were he derserved to go down.
All this talk about boosters....hilarious. I'm sure it exists within OSU and, let's face it, every program. Individual players will take the bait and sometimes get caught. But as for a systemic pay for play going on......no way. There was a veritable witch hunt going on in Columbus at that time and if such a thing existed it would have been found out.
If Chris Webber decided he wanted to be part of UM again, you guys would welcome him back like a hero. And before one of you disagrees, I'm talking the fan base as a whole. He does that and one of these days there is a Fab 5 night at a UM basketball game. I guarantee it.

and fuck the entire state of ohio. It's no surprise that a bunch of sister fucking inbreeds honored their greatest liar and cheater. He's what they all aspire to be.
