the official meltdown thread

Put your anger here. We won the 2005 series down the first game but damn that game was on a platter for us.

No meltdown. I thought they did an excellent job charging back. That could easily have been a win. Not a meltdown; a rally that didn't quite make it all the way back.

Meltdown on Coach Hutch's glucose starved brain for stubbornly trotting a broken Betsa out there AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN  when Wagner is absolutely DOMINATING...this was as bad as Beilein benching Trey Burke for the entire 1st half with 2 fouls in a winner take all national championship game. For the Love of Fuck

Do you think the net impact on the game/scoring would have been better with Burke? Honest question, because you know, Spike had a pretty good +/- when he was in for the rest of the half.

He was right to sit him for awhile...when we got the 11 point lead...you gotta cash in the gift and trust your player of the year point guard...point guards don't really worry about fouls

I have zero doubt if Burke came back with 6 minutes left in the 1st half...we would have won that game!!

Spike wasn't running an offense...no one knew where to be...Hancock wouldn't have gotten 4 straight 3's as deep as they were if we were organized with Burke back in.

was off a pitch nearly at the batter's ankles. I don't fault the pitcher for that. As for Burke...it was the right call and the same call most coaches would make unless they were in danger of getting so far down they couldn't recover.

The vast majority of this board didn't pay attention to softball before this thread...why would those folks have a right to meltdown?

It's one game, one that we were down 3-0 going into the 7th inning. We lost, okay...go win tomorrow and Wednesday. It's not really meltdown worthy.

THIS...is meltdown worthy.

This thread sucks.

Actually we were down 3-0 going in to the 6th. At the top of the 7th we were down 3-2 with Romero at 3rd with no outs. Kind of a different story when you're talking flow of the game. It wasn't some improbable comeback ... It was a mistake in coaching that could have resulted in at least a tie ballgame.

I'm not melting down but I'm annoyed with the on-field errors and mental mistakes the team made. I posted this in the game thread but it probably belongs here... In the top of the 7th with 0 outs we had had 1st and 3rd with Romero 60 feet from home and and Christner on 1st. Hutchins should've been agressive and put in a pinch runner for Christner to potentially steal 2nd and take the double play off the field. Hutchins should've instructed Susalla to swing at an early pitch and miss but block the catcher's view. (We did something similar earlier in the game when Romero was on 1st and it worked - Romero stole 2nd.) In this scenario, we could've stolen 2nd and then tried to steal home if the Florida catcher makes the throw to 2nd. (We did this against LSU with Lawrence on 3rd and Romero on 1st and it worked). If the catcher doesn't throw, then we have 2nd and 3rd with no outs. And then we have 3 chances at getting at least the tying run and the go-ahead run across.

I just want to be happy watching Michigan win Nattys again. Sometimes I think Michigan's recent struggles are a form of punishment for us having WD as a fan. He has definitely annoyed the sports gods. Since he's become old enough to comprehend what is going on our teams have fallen off as a whole. I bet if WD became a spartan devotee our glory days would return.

different about this stuff. I have officiated softball for many years. I have actually worked games that involved former Michigan players and greats including Jennie Ritter and Auburn's  starter in two of its elimination games. I think this Michigan team is its best ever and the chemistry and grit it possesses is championship material. But just as the 1997 national championship team played from behind in the Rose Bowl the year it won, Michigan must now do tonight and tomorrow or leave wondering about what might have been.

If it is to win, then Romero must rebound from a tactical mistake in baserunning. Michigan was in position to win last night and It has to live with that outcome, more than anyone of us will ever imagine or feel broken up about before we move on. You erase that memory by learning from it and responding to another chance. That's what champions do.

You have to realize that every pitcher at the CWS is throwing in the 60's or with velocity of breaking pitches which make hitting well a difficult prospect. A ball thrown at more than 60 mph in softball  is the equivaletnt of the 90's in baseball. With movement, spin and change of eye level, it is remarkable how these femaie athletes perform. And they do it with such great resolve as teammates and performers, toughened by competition but never denying their other qualities as women athletes. Some people appreciate and enjoy this sport, others see only what they want.

I think that Curt Schilling actually put this game of thrones in perspective when he talked about how the kids throw and play in comparison to baseball, which I also umpire and love as a game. He gave them the respect they richly deserve.

Actually, it is not slight at this level when you criticize performance or decision-making because you are treating these players and their team as equals to any other Michigan team you support and root for.

Truth is, this is the most visibly successful team sport on the Michigan campus this season. I am proud of their achievements and disappointed with how they lost last night. I think that is what these threads actually enable us to articulate whether we agree with all the sentiment expressed or not.

I honestly don't get why anyone would belittle the softball team or its efforts. If you're not into softball, no big deal. Don't comment. Why would you need to announce to everyone (that you don't know personally) that you think softball is a waste of time?
