OT (sadly) - March Madness Day 1 Open Thread
I know a lot of people will be at work until the later games, but I know there will be some people watching these early games. All four look like snoozers, but odds are that one will turn into a nail biter. Hopefully it is ND-Northeastern. With my luck it will be Zona, since I have them winning it all.

Sad for UM but hype as fuck... This time of year is just too awesome

can't get into it. I have been spoiled by Michigan the last few years. I just got around to my bracket today. I am all "meh" and it sucks, bad.

Channel Lineup (HD):
CBS: 233
Tru-TV: 247
TNT: 204
TBS: 196
If you don't have Comcast, I'd like to be the first to congradulate you.

DIRECTV fo dat ass.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:17 PM ^
I loved Directv for the two years I had it. Didn't love that the monthly cost went to like $220/month after the first year. NOT IDEAL.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:20 PM ^
It is definitely expensive. My cost right now is $136 and that is without movie channels. Yeesh. Some day, when AT&T U-verse is available on my street, I'm really going to consider them. I may also look into Dish Network at some point.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:27 PM ^
UVerse is not perfect but it's still better than Comcast. Comcast is the only option (other than the Dishes)
I intend on dropping Comcast for Sling TV (through Dish) and HBO's standalone service when that goes live.
I heard someone talking about Sling on the radio earlier and it sounds appealing. I swear, if it were not for the wife, I'd seriously consider it, but she watches so many shows. I do like having a DVR, though. Without looking right now, I don't know if Sling has a DVR. I'm unsure how it could since it's a streaming service, but technology these days can do just about anything, so I won't be surprised if there is a recording device.
Could probably hook up a TiVo or get a device that'll control internet streaming over IP but without requiring a PC etc.
Essentially the same as a satellite or Cable box with built in DVR that just hooks up to ethernet(or wifi), and lets you flip channels or DVR, if I was dish, I'd partner with someone for the majority of profits.

I was pretty impressed with the quality of the stream from NCAA.com for the games yesterday.

I managed to get a four day weekend somehow. The next four days will feature wings, beer, pizza, sleeping in, and possibly the beginning stages of diabetes.

To me today is like an awesome party that you werent invited to. Sorry but I really dont give two shits how fantastic the party is if I dont get to go and enjoy it.
So I'm at my desk at work and I'll check ESPN for scores but I didnt fill out a bracket this year and other than rooting for whoever is playing Kentucky I dont give a crap who wins this year.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:16 PM ^
You were invited, but didn't take the days off like you likely could have.

Dude did you have to pick a gif as an avi?
What is wrong with that?
Hurts my eyes every time it zooms in. Nothing against Brad Pitt/Achilles

Let's go Huskies

There's the NCAA March Madness app that can be downloaded. Not sure if a TV provider is needed, I can't remember. Also you can go to www.ncaa.com and watch the games online that way and it's free!

Dana Jacobsen...so THAT is where she went. She kinda disappeared for a while.
Also, those ND uniforms, though. Holy shit, they are awful.

but this is sort of like Bye Week during football season. It's nice to be able to sit and enjoy the action without that feeling of nervousness-excitement-terror that comes when you have a huge game coming up.
Sucks we missed it. But I'm going to enjoy watching the tournament and just rooting for chaos without having to be stressed out.
That is a perfect way to put it! I love watching well-played basketball just for the beauty of the game. Of course, I also have a bracket filled out, and I hope the upsets I picked are the upsets that happen (and although I didn't pick Hampton, GO HAMPTON!). But there is so much to love about this time of year.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:26 PM ^
It's early, but so far not looking good for NE to keep this close.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:30 PM ^
I checked the TV schedule and found the Tru TV channel, but I have no interest in any of the games today. I'm not sure I care about any tomorrow, either. Yeah, I could tune in to root for State and Staee to lose, but I've got better things to do. I didn't even fill out a bracket, but I stopped doing that years ago, for the same reason I don't play the lottery.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:30 PM ^
1 beer down. Probably not wise to drink 1 every 5 minutes of game time.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:41 PM ^
my man. There is nothing like the 5:00 PM pass out during March Madness, waking up in the middle of the night so mad because you missed the night games where something cool did happen. I would just sip until the 2:00 batch of games.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
It was the adrenalin! I need guidance! First time I've ever taken these 2 days off from work/school to devote to this special special time.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:55 PM ^
there. If you can, stick to bottles, the big drafts will absolutely kill you this time of year. And eat, even if is just some onion rings or something. You will get to a point where you won't want to kill your buzz with pesky food but getting something in your stomach is a crucial element on these days.

ND is going to the foul everyone strategy pretty early in the game. It's a bold strategy, let's see how it works out for them.

They don't stop being Notre Dame just because they're on the hardwood.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:46 PM ^
I'm from South Bend. ND is my #1 rival in every sport, although I know that isn't true for most people.
March 19th, 2015 at 12:51 PM ^
I have them in the Elite 8 also. I still hope they roll over in the first round.
always falls flat in the tourney. That is a risky selection. ND and Villanova were the two teams that I stayed away from. And I don't understand Gonzaga-mania either.
call on Georgetown, I actually have them losing to Eastern Washington. You know it is going to happen to somebody, the Hoyas seem like a good bet.
To hell with Notre Dame
To Hell with Notre Dame

ND getting all it can handle from Northeastern early. Come on, you career-oriented underdogs you. Go get 'em.

of Michigan's 16-16 season?
I enjoyed watching Michigan scrap, right up until the end.
But where Michigan's season really cratered my interest was in following the rest of college basketball.
How would Michigan match up with Duke, Arizona, or Villanova, let alone Kentucky? This year, the care factor was zero since I knew it wasn't happening.
It's been a while since I've known so little about the rest of college basketball come Tournament time. No eyeball adjustments this year for me, I had to rely solely on odds/futures/power ranking sites to make my pics. (Plus a few guesses at where the traditional names would be overrrepresented by pool participants.)
