Penn State shenanigans continue
In the latest episode of 'We Only Care About Wins,' Penn State will be wearing "409" on their hockey helments tonight with the basketball team wearing "409" T-shirts tomorrow for their warm-ups. Disgusting if you ask me.

Both the B1G and the NCAA have general conduct policies. Whomever you were arguing with is wrong. Ped State should have got the death penalty. A lesser school would have.

You can't even put anything OSU did in the same category as PSU. No college, not even SMU or USC etc.
Child molestion is on a completely different level than paying players or bartering tattoos for memorabilia. This is absolutely the worst scandal in sports history, yet will be diminished.
That is why I'm so adamant in keeping the wins vacated b/c people will always know why they were vacated in the first place.
Now it's like keeping everything like it was before while relegating the actual victims to a wikipedia footnote and article.

if they're going to put the 409 on there, they should also put the number of Sandusky victims who have come forward.

I hope one player has the balls to refuse the wear that number.

So can we get our two final fours back? I'm serious. It was one player who got caught taking money from Ed Martin. The NCAA decided to bomb our program when the Buckeyes cheated in simialr ways for their bball program.

Webber is actually recognized now at Crisler I believe... Well there's a plaque of him and his accomplishments I think?

USC/OSU/UM should all file lawsuits and get their vacated records back. This is ridiculous.

Only 1 from the fab 5 teams though. The other 3 were later on.

Bringing back JoePa's statue would just be the icing on the cake for all that's wrong with this situation.

Wont be long till they build an even bigger statue - sick, sick fan base.

not that it really matters, but i never understood why win/losses are relevant to these kinds of things at all. punish joepa, punish the university, but what exactly was the point of removing the wins to begin with? i mean, they already took place in real life. and in principal, why should we make point to take away wins? shouldnt it be about more than that? isnt there a better punishment than "taking away" wins?
and the university allowing the hockey team to put a sticker on their helmets recogizing the "restoration" of those wins is one of the most bizarre parts of this entire scandal. just bizarre.

USC and the Buckeyes would probably get their wins brought back and the NCAA would say no to the Fab 5 banners coming back. They have huge issues with that era in bball for us for some reason yet they won't do anything to UNC, Miami etc.

Well, if it hadn't been covered up for so long maybe recruits wouldn't have bought in Paterno's "Win with Honor" bullshit.
This is definitely the most trivial of the punishments they received though...and of course, PSU fans take joy in their leader getting some of his "honor" back. Fuck the whole university, they should be thrown out of the Big Ten.

No I know, I'm sort of playing devil's advocate with the vacated wins in the first place.
If the NCAA was going to get involved at all (which is up for debate) then at least stick to your convictions of the original decision. The wins from that era don't matter at all anyways.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:28 PM ^
Nobody is entertaining the thought that Sandusky's actions helped the football team on the field. It's about showing solidarity to the victims and upholding an admission that football at PSU during that time was bigger than reporting the disgusting actions happening within the program.

January 16th, 2015 at 10:07 PM ^
....this was completely effective lesson for Penn State indeed. Thanks to the NCAA and the cult of personality that surrounds a dead former coach.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:08 PM ^
Hopefully MSU spanks them tomorrow.
They tied tonight with sparty taking the extra point in the shootout.
I want anyone who plays PSU in any sport to beat them.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:25 PM ^
I want them out of the Big Ten. They're a disgrace with how they handled this. Yes, not all the fans are crazies but this makes FSUTwitter look tame in comparison.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:18 PM ^
So all the rehabilitation and reimaging that university and football program went through is out the window just so a dead football coach and former players can have wins restored while employing a child molester? They're basically saying we took these wins away to show respect to the victims but enough time has gone by where that gesture doesn't mean shit.
We live in a sad, sad society it seems.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:19 PM ^
...the REAL victims in all of this are the Paterno family and PSu football fans.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:33 PM ^
And the Fab Five can't have their wins back because...??
January 16th, 2015 at 10:59 PM ^
Listen, I can understand being mad about this, but this is not equivalent to the Ed Martin vacated wins. At all. Apples and oranges. There's a difference between a punitive punishment based on a heinous criminal act by a coach that arguably had no truly tangible competitive advantage as far as players were concerned, and a financial scandal that involved a booster comprimising athletes' amateur statuses over the course of nearly an entire decade.
January 16th, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
Well, no the crime isn't comparable. But the punishment from the NCAA is in the same ballpark. Which begs the question if/why they should be involved in the first place... regardless, how pathetic does the NCAA look now, to ease up their punishment for an unquestionably worse offense?
January 17th, 2015 at 12:39 AM ^
Actually, Michigan vacated the wins themselves, and the NCAA accepted the self-imposed sanctions.
January 16th, 2015 at 11:59 PM ^
You're lowering youself to Ped State's standards. Those wins were vacated for a reason. They should remain that way. We're better than the NCAA.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:38 PM ^
I guess I just don't get it. Such a scandal is unthinkable at any school, so I'll just use the Fab Five as an example... I could really care less that they took the wins/Final Four appearances away. I saw them happen with my own eyes, they can't take away the memories.
And whatever you think of Webber et al, let's all agree it's a small fraction of what went down at PSU.
Why would they fight so hard about this, keeping the story in the spotlight for a longer period of time? It's not like Paterno's able to appreciate their "loyalty."
Does restoring the victories somehow restore the reputation in their eyes? If so... i don't even know what to say.
January 16th, 2015 at 10:40 PM ^
why 290 you ask? well in california when someone is convicted of a sex offense they are required to register under 290 of the cal penal code. someone like that is commonly referred to as a '290 reg'. 290 ought to be on that helmet for the years of vile, enabled, assaults upon those children. disgusting.
