Your opinion on opening at Utah on a Thursday?

Submitted by DISCUSS Man on

I just realized that Michigan's opener for the 2015 season is on a Thursday night.

In fact, I saw on twitter that neither Michigan, OSU nor MSU open their season on a fall Saturday.

Michigan opens at Utah on Thursday the 3rd of September.

MSU opens at Western Michigan (WTF?!) on Friday

OSU opens at Virginia Tech on the 7th, labor day

I don't like this damnit. TOE MEETS LEATHER AT 1 O'CLOCK ON SATURDAY.

Michigan never plays well out west and has not played well on the road in awhile. I know Harbaugh is running things now but this had loss written all over it. That QB for BYU is terrifying. I hate that match up also.

Obviously, there is little we can do about the awkward scheduling that TV has driven for opening week in particular, so I suppose what it means to me is that we get to see the first game of the Harbaugh era at Michigan just that much sooner. I know, two days sooner isn't much, but I think we're all excited enough that we're OK with even a sliver of time being shaved off the wait.

After thinking about it, it works outgreat for our family. Head up north Thursday afternoon, watch the game, then spend the rest of the weekend on the lake. Booyah.

I like it. It means Harbaugh gets 2 extra days to prepare for Oregon State, not that he will need it, but that's 2 extra days to fix any mistakes. Seeing the initial game product early only helps the team, the team, the team.

I like to see a hard-nosed, resilient, and well disciplined team to show up. No silly penalties, no mind-boggling turnovers, and we will start the season 1-0.

Scary, since the Big Ten usually never plays well on the west coast, and while Utah is going through some transition of its own, we're a complete unknown. We have no QB until proven otherwise.

We'll be a much better team against Utah next year than we were this year, but it's still a wait and see. We absolutely have the better coach, but you never know in these games. It's a big toss-up, but it's also in prime time. Remember that all the recruits will be watching since that is THE game that night. If we show marked improvement, that's big for us.

That BYU game scares me though, too.

Harbaugh will already get a lot of attention but the Thurs date just ensures even more pre and post game focus on UM. Tough place to play and Utah should open as the favorite - chance for Harbaugh to reveal his program.

The big question will be how we play. I would rather see our first game played on a Saturday in Ann Arbor. Too tough to fly my son, his family and I to Utah with our differing work schedules. I will be watching and rooting for the maize and blue no matter what the time or venue.

I believe that JH is up for the challenge. I hope that I am not overly hyped and overly optomistic about the first game. It will be interesting to see the contrast between a Brady Hoke coached team, and a Jim Harbaugh coached team. Do you gus and gals on this blog, believe ther will be a BIG difference???

With Harbaugh running the show you can rest assured that we will be ready.  And I am certain that we will not be intimidated.  Confidence and execution will lead us to victory.

I don't like it, tbh. It's a dangerous game and we never should have given Utah a home and home. They don't have that kind of marquee value.

I think for Labor Day weekend it's fine.  I don't like the fact the season starts on Labor Day weekend.  I'd like it to start the weekend afterward.  Lots on good things one can do on a Labor Day saturday rather than watch a game.  I'd like it better if the season started the third weekend in Sept. like it used to.  More games in Oct. and Nov., less in Sept.  Love watching college football in Nov when the weather is colder.
