Michigan Basketball Open Practice, Nov. 5 (w/selfies!!!)
Michigan Basketball is holding an open practice next Wednesday, November 5, from 6-7PM at Crisler.

Best part:
Following practice, the coaching staff and players will participate in a "Squad 99 Selfie" Promotion. From 7-8 p.m., the Wolverines will meet and greet fans and be available for photos and/or the popular social media "selfie." During the promotion, all U-M players and coaches will not be granting autographs.
Can this Athletic Department do anything without a stupid marketing tie-in? What the hell is Squad 99?

What's wrong with just saying, "Take photos with players and coaches"...?
Embarassing

The extra, what, 50-75 staffers DB has hired onto the AD in the past few years have to busy themselves doing something other than running the football program and the University's name into the ground, don't they? Remarkable that spending by the AD is up 100,000s of dollars and the product is notably worse.

when I was a kid. We just called them photos back then. None of us had phones with cameras and it required someone else to take the pic. No big deal

Thought for sure that press release would have the word SWAG in it. Missed an opportunity to reach the cool kids.

I understand the current views on the athletic department, but really? Is this something to be upset about? It's a fun chance for fans, and especially kids to meet the players. This is the type of thing that can get a kid hooked for life. If you watched like Hard Knocks, where they showed Matt Ryan walking over to a few kids and agreed to take a selfie with them, looking at the faces of the kids, you would have thought it was the greatest thing to ever happen to them. Not all "marketing tie-ins" are bad, and I would bet this will make more than a few kids' day to take a selfie with Caris.

You mean fans want to get pictures with the coaches and players? I don't know about this newfangled "photograph".

"Michigan - we're hip to the lingo!"

I really like the selfie instead of autographs. Only worth something to the person in the picture and it probably means more than an autographed picture that anyone can get.

I really enjoyed the Crisler selfies last year with new hashtags for most of the games. Sure it's cheesy in a "we're trying to be cool!" way, but it's also fun as hell to have you and your friends' faces up on the big screen!
Plus, finally... me + Max 4eva (is what I would write if it was a Snapchat and then I would scribbly heart our eyes...)
