Michigan vs MSU: 3:30/ABC

Oh dear.

I thought this would be a BTN game at noon so not many people outside the fanbases would see it.

Michigan is 103-58-3 all-time when on ABC. 9-8 when playing MSU on ABC.

I am hoping someone can shed some light.  Michigan's bubble screens seem to go for -3 to +3 yards and get blown up almost immediately.

Penn State's bubble screens were seemingly almost always one tackle from breaking it really big.

What in the formation are we doing wrong, is it offense or defense or is it just crappy blocking by the other receiver on that side.  I have been struggling to identify that but havent figured it out yet.

only this years team, its been pretty much every team since the last couple of years of the lloyd carr era... the last time michigan was able to run a screen pass on a regular basis without it getting blown up instantly was probably chris perrys senior year...

i think part of the problem (football guru's feel free to correct me) is that the players are being to "robotic" in the way they go about setting up the screen instead of just doing it... as for the bubble screens, our WR's are flat out horrible when it comes to blocking a DB long enough for it to work or they block the wrong guy... remember funches wasn't exaclty a great blocking TE and that was one of the other reasons why he got moved to WR...

What year is it? The Spartan defense has not looked great so far this year. I think our defense is better. As for their offense verus ours, though, that is a big advantage for them that puts them over the top versus us in terms of a predicted win.

has some observations from H-PaS.  And its FREE--  at least for now

He ID-s the use of RunPlay OL-Pull schemes, and use of ScreenPass.  Some of the stuff we-ve ID-ed earlier from LW for eg.

He appears to say that Nuss called a Very Good Ocall game.  Which of course, I find hard to believe.  On the whole--  I think Moosman is Pretty Good, going back Several Weeks now.

The Template Game for @-MSU, is of course LAST YEAR @-MSU, and all that Flowed From It.  The comments on this board about, Double A-Gap Blitz Schemes, and Ocall CounterMeasures are accurate.  And really-- Pretty good.

And really--  at this point there is a Wealth Of Infomation available for Hoke-Nuss, to figure this out  . . .

I don't want to live in a world where we are worried about what time we play MSU due to fear of getting our asses kicked in front of a large audience.

I am so sick of those assholes. Man, I just pray we can keep it close all game and have a chance to win at the end. I would go ape shit if we somehow beat them in like a last second play or something. I hope to HELL that we have some sort of gameplan that throws them off and WE make adjustments all game to keep them off balance.

What's strange is the boycotters were very careful to emphasize how they were still supporting the team v. PSU. Now that the boycott was a failure, they feel free to talk openly about not doing so.

Things that make you go hmm.

Not to be a Negative Nancy, but I am preparing myself mentally for a stinging loss against MSU.  If for some reason that doesn't happen, great.  I would gladly welcome a W.  I'm sure between now and gametime I'll allow myself to get my hopes up like a sucker.

For us to have a chance, we need to create. 3-4 turnovers, you know DG is gonna have some to's. I think if we happen to get inside the 40 of state, we need to throw it deep often to Funchess. We would also need a punt block or some big ST play. We have nothing to lose and should be aggressive.

Sparty should put up around 450 total yards and I'd guess 35 to 45 points.  Even if our defense holds early, it's bound to breakdown in the second half with our inability to move the ball. We'll be lucky to break the 200 yard mark in total offense.  Heck, did we even have a possession in the redzone VS PSU?  Our TD was on a 43 yard pass and it looks like all our fieldgoals were longer than 30 yards.  *sigh* This could be really ugly.

Is it really impossible to create a new plan for shit you know someone is going to do to you?  Why is it necessary for the brain trust to run one single damn play that caters directly to Sparty's strength?  Screw that, they have run enough of these experiments against Rutgers, the almighty gophers and PSU to know how these things are going to work out.  SURE, I guess you could dutifully spend all f-ing week in practice trying to get the man ball ypg from 2.1 to 2.4!  OR, spread that gosh darn field, take 3 step drops or none at all from the gun, run short route pick plays, whatever.  If they don't work, at least your QB does not get killed!  When faced with what looks like certain defeat, you can take two paths.  One, is to do what you have always done, despite it working hardly ever, but it is at least familiar.  Or, you could say, "screw it, if I am going to get beat, it will at least be on my terms", and do something different.  I highly recommend the later, but have resigned myself to the former.

Sparty struggled against an absolutely dreadful Purdue team. I still don't think they're as good as last year. There's also the possibility they aren't quite as amped with us being down this year.

They're certainly a much stronger squad that us, but I think we have a puncher's chance.

This is the game where we need all our DBs back. I am hoping Peppers is back and the secondary plays the best they can. If we have Peppers and Lewis with countess on Nickel, and the safety play is good, then I think we force their hand on run plays. DG needs to be left alone to play his own game. He will make mistakes, but that is the best shot we have. If we can match their defense with our defense, I believe that DG can be as good as their offense. He is special. Let us hope he brings in his A game. Go Blue!

i think Hoke needs to go full Hagerup and draft a letter to the team in the same style Will did.  If so, there is a minute possibility that we show up and dont get trounced.

Who knows though, last year we thought we had a chance and got blown the fuck out.  This year no one wants to give us a chance (including ourselves) and the game might be closer than we expect.  Football is fucked up sometimes.

I'll go out on a limb and say we beat the spread - not win, but beat the spread at least.

We CURRENTLY HAVE the players to beat EVERY team in the B1G. I finally concur that the AD (not the HC, OC, and DC, although Funk needs to go) is a problem. And if you say Devin Gardner is NOT a great QB, just look to last years UofM vs OSU game. He can be inconsistent, but he isn't if he gets protection and the offense is tailored to his strengths. I have seen him throw many many passes that look like a frozen rope. He can do it. He just needs bigger, stronger boys up front. We do NOT currently have a qb on the roster that comes even close to DG. The arrival of Alex Malzone will be a highly heralded one, and I guarantee you he starts as a true freshman next year. I have to say it. We are on the VERGE of being A-MAIZEING. Give Hoke one more year but get Brandon out of AA. GO BLUE! HAIL TO THE VICTORS VALIANT!!
